Chapter 138 Twins are home

Chapter 138 Twins are home
Maddie's POV

Finally, the day had arrived. After weeks of worry, fear, and hope, our twin girls came home. Mariko and I had been counting down the days until this moment, and now, as I nestled one tiny, healthy baby in my arms and Angel held the other, my heart overflowed with joy.

Rosie was with us, cooing at the baby in my arms. She was the picture of grandmotherly affection, her face lit up with happiness as she lightly touched the baby's cheek. "Oh, Maddie, look at her. She is perfect," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.

I gazed down at my daughter, marveling at her tiny fingers and peaceful expression. "She is, isn't she?" I agreed, my voice equally soft. "They both are."

Angel, sitting next to me, was holding the other twin with such care and love. She looked at me with wide eyes, a mixture of awe and pride on her face. "They are so tiny and cute," she said, her voice filled with wonder.

I smiled at her, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for how seamlessly she had become part of our family. "You're doing great, Angel. They seem to like you already."

She beamed, her cheeks flushing with happiness. "Thank you. I love them already."

At that moment, Mariko entered the room, carrying a sleepy-eyed Bella in his arms. "Look who just woke up from her nap," he said, his voice gentle and warm.

Bella rubbed her eyes and then, seeing the babies, her face lit up with excitement. "The babies are home!" she exclaimed, wriggling out of Mariko's arms to come closer. He set her down and she ran up to me.

"Careful, Bella," Mariko said, chuckling. "Be gentle with them."

Bella nodded earnestly and tiptoed over to me. "Can I hold one?" she asked me.

I looked at Mariko, who gave a reassuring nod. "Of course. Let's sit you down first."

Mariko carefully arranged Bella on the sofa, propping pillows around her to support her tiny frame. Then, I gently placed one of the twins in her arms, making sure she had a good grip. Bella looked down at her baby sister with wide, adoring eyes.

"Hi, baby," she whispered. "I'm your big sister, Bella."

Rosie, still beside me, was watching the scene with tears in her eyes. "This is such a beautiful moment. You have a wonderful family."

I reached over and squeezed her hand. "Thank you. You have been such a huge help to us."

Mariko sat down beside me, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. "This is perfect. Just perfect."

I leaned into him, feeling his warmth and strength. "It really is. I can't believe they are finally home." my heart swelled with happiness.

As we sat there, surrounded by the love and laughter of our little family, I couldn't help but reflect on how far we had come. The journey had been long and challenging, but moments like these made every hardship worthwhile.

"Mariko, do you remember when I told you that I was pregnant? I was afraid you wouldn't want them, but your reaction was what caught me off guard," I asked, looking up at him.

He smiled, his eyes filled with love and nostalgia. "Of course I remember. Although I never wanted more kids, they are what we created, and I made a silent promise that I would love them forever just as I love you." he continued to smile.

"And now look at us. Two beautiful babies."

He kissed my forehead. "We did it together. We faced everything and came out stronger."

Bella, who had been quietly holding her sister, looked up at us. "Can we take the babies to their room? I want to show them their new crib."

Mariko and I exchanged a glance and nodded. "Sure. Let's take them to their room." Mariko and I made a little nursery for them before we even knew if we were going back to Seattle.

Angel carefully stood up, holding the other twin securely. "I will help too," she said, her voice determined.

We all made our way to the nursery, a room we had spent just a few hours preparing. The walls were painted a soft, calming shade of lavender, and the cribs were adorned with delicate, handmade blankets. It was a room filled with love and anticipation.

As we placed the twins in their cribs, Bella and Angel stood by, watching with wide, curious eyes. "They look so happy here," Bella said, her voice a soft whisper.

"They do," I agreed, my heart swelling with pride.

Mariko wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me close. "Welcome home, little ones," he murmured, his voice filled with emotion.

Rosie, who had followed us into the nursery, smiled warmly. "They are going to thrive, especially when we are all back in Seattle. I just know it."

I nodded, tears of joy filling my eyes. "Thank you. For everything."

She shook her head. "No need to thank me. This is what family is for."

As we stood there, basking in the warmth and love of our home, I realized that this was just the beginning of our new journey. There would be challenges ahead, but with Mariko by my side and our beautiful children, I knew we could face anything.

Mariko leaned down, whispering in my ear. "I love you. Thank you for giving me this incredible family."

I turned to him, my heart overflowing with love. "I love you too. More than words can say."

Our moment was interrupted by Bella's excited voice. "Can we read a story to the babies?"

I smiled, nodding. "Of course. Let's read them their first bedtime story."

We gathered around the twins, Bella and Angel snuggling close to me while Mariko sat on the other side. Bella picked out a book, her favorite one, about a magical adventure in a far-off land.

As she began to read, her sweet voice filled the room, creating a cocoon of love and warmth. Mariko held my hand, his thumb gently stroking my skin, and I leaned against him, feeling a sense of contentment I had never known before.

The twins, though too young to understand, seemed to respond to the soothing rhythm of Bella's reading. Their tiny hands moved, and their eyes fluttered, as if they could sense the love that surrounded them.

When the story ended, Bella looked up at me with a sleepy smile. "I think the babies liked the story."

I kissed her forehead. "I think they did too. You did a wonderful job."

Mariko stood up, lifting Bella into his arms. "It's bedtime for you too, little one."

Bella yawned, resting her head on his shoulder. "Goodnight, babies. Goodnight, Maddie and Angel."

I watched as Mariko carried her to her room, his gentle care and affection a constant source of strength for me. Angel stayed behind, watching the twins with a protective gaze.

"They are so small," she said quietly, her voice filled with awe.

"They will grow stronger every day," I reassured her, reaching out to stroke her hair. "And we will be here to help them every step of the way."

Angel nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "I will be the best big sister ever."

"I know you will," I replied, my heart swelling with pride. "We are so lucky to have you, Angel."

Mariko returned, his eyes reflecting the same love and hope that filled my heart. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me close as we watched our children sleep.

I leaned into him, feeling the steady beat of his heart against mine. "This is just the beginning."

As we stood there, surrounded by the gentle breaths of our sleeping children, I felt a profound sense of gratitude. Our family was complete, our home filled with love and laughter, although it was only a temporary home. And together, we would face whatever the future held, knowing that we were stronger than ever.

In that moment, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would overcome them together. Our journey had brought us to this beautiful, perfect moment, and I was ready to embrace the future with open arms, surrounded by the love of my incredible family.

Mariko's POV

The soft cries of our babies echoed through the nursery, pulling me out of the light sleep I had managed to get. I glanced at the clock on the bedside table, it was 3AM. Maddie stirred beside me, her face a mixture of exhaustion and concern.

“I got it,” I whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead before slipping out of bed.

In the nursery, the cries grew louder. Our daughters were clearly hungry, and their wails tugged at my heartstrings. I reached into the crib, carefully picking up Mikayla, feeling the familiar weight of her small, fragile body against my chest.

“Hey there, sweetheart,” I murmured, gently bouncing her as I walked over to the changing table. “Daddy’s here.”

Maddie appeared in the doorway, her eyes heavy with sleep but filled with determination. She crossed the room to the other crib, scooping up Marielle.

“They are hungry,” she said, her voice soft and soothing despite her weariness.

I nodded, focusing on changing the first diaper. “Yeah, let’s get them cleaned up first and then fed.”

Maddie mirrored my actions, and we worked side by side, changing diapers. Despite the fatigue etched into her features, she moved with a careful, loving precision that made my heart swell with pride.

Once the diapers were changed, we settled into the rocking chairs. I held the first twin close. Maddie had the other twin in her arms, as the baby latched onto her breast as she breastfed. Her eyes fixed on our daughter’s face.

As Marielle fed, the room filled with a peaceful quiet. The only sounds were the gentle suckling and occasional coos from the babies. I watched Maddie, noticing the way her shoulders began to relax, and the tension eased from her expression.

“You’re doing amazing,” I whispered, reaching out to touch her arm.

She looked up at me, a tired smile playing on her lips. “Thanks. It’s just… a lot, you know? I’m still getting used to everything.”

I nodded, understanding exactly how she felt. “I know. But you’re doing great. It will get easier with time.”

She sighed, her gaze drifting back to the baby in her arms. “I hope so. They are just so tiny and fragile. I worry about everything.”

I shifted the baby in my arms slightly, ensuring she was comfortable. “That is normal. But we are in this together. We will learn and grow with them.”

Maddie fed Mikayla, our babies' little tummies were full. Maddie and I then gently burped the twins, the soft pats on their backs becoming almost rhythmic.

“Okay, now for the fun part,” I said with a playful grin, standing up to lay the first twin back in the crib.

Maddie laughed softly, shaking her head. “Yeah, fun. You make it sound so easy.”

I placed our daughter down gently, making sure she was comfortable. “It gets easier, I promise.”

Maddie joined me, settling the other twin into the crib. She lingered for a moment, smoothing the blanket over her tiny form. “I just don’t want to mess up,” she confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.

I moved to her side, wrapping an arm around her waist. “You’re not going to mess up. You’re an incredible mom. And I’m right here with you every step of the way.”

She leaned into me, drawing strength from our closeness. “Thank you. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

“You don’t have to find out,” I assured her. “We are a team. And these little girls are lucky to have you as their mom.”

We stood there for a moment, watching our daughters as they drifted back to sleep. The room was bathed in the soft glow of the nightlight, casting a gentle, reassuring light over everything.

Finally, we returned to our bedroom, exhaustion pulling at us both. We climbed back into bed, the warmth of the blankets a welcome comfort. Maddie snuggled close to me, her head resting on my chest.

“I just need to get the hang of things,” she murmured, her voice already drowsy.

“You will,” I said, pressing a kiss to her hair. “And I will always be here to help you."

She sighed contentedly, her breathing evening out as sleep claimed her. I held her close, my own eyes growing heavy. Despite the challenges ahead, I felt an overwhelming sense of peace and happiness. Our family was complete, and together, we could face anything.

The next morning, the soft cries of our twins once again filled the nursery. Maddie and I exchanged a glance, a silent agreement passing between us. We got out of bed, ready to face the day together.

We spent the day feeding, changing, and soothing the babies, each task a new adventure. Maddie’s confidence grew with every diaper changed, and every with every time she fed them, and I made sure to remind her how incredible she was doing.

“Look at you,” I said with a grin as she expertly swaddled one of the twins. “You’re a pro already.”

She laughed, the sound light and happy. “I don’t know about that, but I’m getting there.”

As the day turned into evening, we found a rhythm, a new normal beginning to take shape. Maddie’s initial overwhelm was slowly replaced by a sense of competence and pride, and I couldn’t have been prouder of her.
