Shit! Shit! Fuck!
How could I forget? How could I forget the video? Oh, Shit!
I kept muttering under my breath as my mind raced around in search of every loophole or means by which I could trap Audrey too. I knew I had to stop her before she went further and this time, I had to do it in the open.
I listened to her video for a few minutes and saw photos of myself and Damien together inside his house and in the garden. I threw my head back in bitter laughter.
Let's fetch that enemy, shall we?
I raced into the house and up the stairs to the room Damien had pulled me from and into the bathroom, this time I pulled a towel in with me. My bath was a short one. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't one to have long baths but this one was the shortest. Say, 3-4 minutes.
I had to get the full gist and survey now that Audrey was still trending before another celebrity took her position in the next ten minutes. That's the Rubenn life, people one-upping each other for accolades from not-so-wealthy masses and college students.
Sheesh! Talk about shallow living.
I walked out of the bathroom and to the wardrobe. Damien had made sure to stock every wardrobe of the rooms upstairs with clothes and things I might need because I just get into any room and start having my bath. I used to do that at my parent's house and mostly wore Audrey's or my stepmother's clothes. It was one of those age-long rotten habits of mine that I'm not sure I'll change.
I chose a floral long gown with blue buttons from the top to the place around the knee. It was v-neck and easy to put on. I got matching blue slip-ons and went out of the room. I didn't bother to powder my face or put on lip gloss but I made sure to wear my fragrance.
On my way down the stairs, I saw a group of maids gathered around a few feet from the stairs and they looked quite immersed in their discussion and with the rude maid from earlier in the center, I knew that it had the information I needed to attack Audrey.
Hello media, here I come. Set up your cameras and wait.
I said to myself in my head as I snuck closer to them and formed myself into a ball, preparing to listen to their conversations. I'll have to address the maids with numbers because I had no other way to identify them.
Maid 1 - maid from earlier: “I couldn't believe that I was fooled by that Audrey bitch. She's as slimy as mucus and cunning as a chameleon.” She fussed, her face twisted into an ugly frown. Another maid placed a palm on her shoulder as if to comfort her but what she said next sounded more like mockery.
Maid 2: “I wouldn't say she's a bitch tho. You needed revenge on Sophia here and went straight into the hands of the devil. Karma is a bitch, sis.” The addition of sis almost had me clapping. Maid 1’s face twisted the more and I saw rage flash through her eyes.
“I needed that money for grandpa's drugs, you unfeeling bitch. I know you wish you were me, you slimy whore!” I hated how the argument was going but the posture they'd taken didn't look like one that people with even the smallest level of malice would take.
“Maureen, stop it. Stop it, you two.” I'll call this one, mother Theresa because she dressed like a nun. Well covered and had dark makeup like one of these cheap-looking emo girls.
How pathetic!
“We need to do something. We need to get you help before Audrey does more harm than good and we lose our jobs. You know that with the way you had acted with Sophia, your job is hanging on a thin thread and nobody will employ you without a good referral. That's how Rubenn works. You have no college degree and you can't afford to lose your position here.”
“I know all that. I do! I've messed up, real bad!” Maureen lamented, shaking in fear. “Audrey wants more information or I'll lose Grandpa, I need someone who'll be willing to save my ass and I'll be forever loyal. I never knew she's such a twisted motherfucker?”
“I warned you. Someone who planned her sister's relationship while mercilessly fucking the fiancé should be respected. You can't mess with her!” The second maid from earlier chipped in casually and I gasped in horror.
It had been quite loud but I was hidden perfectly behind the huge curtains and flower vase so I couldn't be spotted.
“What was that?” Maureen whispered in fear.
“It's probably nothing.” Mother Theresa dismissed with such admirable confidence.
“No. It's not. It sounded human, feminine.” Maureen argued.
Hmmm… she has great observation skills.
“So? We should leave this discussion and go in search of the person who'd gasped or we should go on with it.” Mother Theresa berated with obvious distaste and Maureen stopped poking her head around.
“Why don't you give Sophia information instead? You heard her say she'll defeat Audrey? Such a woman will need everything you can offer her but you need to be sure you won't betray her because…”
“Both sisters are equally dangerous and you won't know Sophia because she's not slimy or cunning, she's analytic and calculated. She'll mess you up.” Maid 2 provided without being prompted to add Mother Theresa's nod supported her.
Maureen looked too shaken.
“Look, I've been here with you for over 6 years and watched you provide information to diverse high-profile men and politicians about Diego and vice versa. You can pull this off, but you have to be honest and loyal completely or you're doomed.” Maid 2 carried on.
“You've got to stick to Sophia so she'll protect you or else, all those men will come for you by the time Audrey finishes you off.” Mother Theresa completed and walked off with the second maid tailing behind her and sending eye lasers Maureen's way.
So, this was how people got information from the workers living with them. I had to be extra careful and keep tabs on Audrey too.
Maureen stood for a while before following her friends. What a pathetic duo.
I came out of my hiding place and headed straight to Damien's study. I didn't bother to knock before walking in. He was sitting on the reclining chair with his eyes closed.
“I know how to get information from Audrey.” I began as I settled in the chair beside him. His eyes slowly opened and I nodded knowing he had been meditating before I came in.
“It'll help both of us. I'll also get information on David. You in?” I grinned at him and he did an awkward but assenting nod.
I went into detail telling my findings and the ideas I had in mind while he placed keen eyes on me.
“Phew!” I sighed after about an hour of talking. “But before anything, I need to pay my sister a visit and then announce our marriage after that.” I smiled mischievously.
Audrey had no idea of what was coming at her.
