Chapter 46 Forty - six

Chapter 46 Forty - six
LIORA

What have I gotten myself into?

I've been asking myself that question since the ride back from the office, merely five minutes ago.

The driver just dropped me off at the mansion. I didn't ride back with Lorenzo because he was still very busy at the office.

Since it's getting late, he asked the driver to take me home, letting me know he'd be home soon.

Honestly, I couldn't care less. I was more than glad I didn't have to ride back with him. I knew how I felt in his presence this morning when we left for work together.

Stepping into my bedroom, I turn on the light switch by the wall, the soft yellow glow illuminating the dark room instantly. With a heavy sigh, I kick off my shoes at the entrance before standing in one spot to gather my thoughts.

Drawing in a lungful of air, a wave of relief courses through me.

Sincerely, I never thought a day would come when I'd be so eager to return to this room, considering how much I hated the idea of always being confined here. But damn, after everything that happened today, all I want to do right now is sink into my bed and sleep.

I am so exhausted.

With the little strength I have left, I stalk towards the mirror to observe my reflection. My exterior still looks intact, even though I'm crumbled internally.

Deep sighs escaping my nostrils, I start stripping off my clothes until I'm completely naked. My fingers find the diamond necklace around my neck, and a chill goes through me as I touch the pendant.

A small smile claims my lips as I admire myself in the mirror, reminiscing about this morning when Lorenzo had been the one to put the jewelry on me.

However, I quickly squash my feelings before they lead me astray. Just because of one sweet gesture from him doesn't eradicate the fact that he's an asshole.

He almost made me lose a ton of brain cells with how he bugged me constantly at the office today. You'd think he'd cut me some slack since it's my first day at work, but hell, you'd be so wrong. That man stressed the fuck out of me.

I huff with annoyance as I take off the necklace and place it neatly in the jewelry box.

On my way upstairs, Samantha informed me she had already prepared my bath, so I head straight to the bathroom to freshen up.

Holding onto either side of the Jacuzzi, I let my head fall against the headrest as I relax into the warmth of the bubbling bath. Samantha is the best when it comes to preparing baths, I swear. She's always right with the consistency; the water is never too hot or too cold. It's very relaxing.

You'd think you have many problems, but just try taking a bath in a Jacuzzi. It might not be the solution to all your problems, but it sure is a great way to start.

I release a heavy sigh, my eyes fluttering open after being closed for a moment. I blink weakly at the ceiling, the events of today finding their way back into my mind.

Today was kind of great. Okay, I wouldn't say great. It was okay.

Aside from my husband's annoying behavior, the rest of my new colleagues were awesome. They made it easy for me to adjust and adapt to this new change.

Although I still find something very weird about one of my male colleagues, Aiden, I push aside the thought. It's not like we're in the same office, so I should be fine, staying away from him.

I just didn't like the way he kept staring at me like a creep. Sure, he was hella surprised, but the others were too, and they didn't behave like that.

My thoughts stray from Aiden to Nick. I didn't get the chance to talk to that one in person since he seemed so standoffish, but I couldn't care less. He's cool though.

The women were more than welcoming towards me. They surely didn't like me at first when I came in, but I think they came around after the big announcement that I'm Lorenzo's wife. Now, you can't publicly hate on your boss's wife, can you?

Speaking of Lorenzo, my annoyance resurfaces and my hands clench around the sides of the Jacuzzi. He's the one who stressed me out the most.

My lips twitch in a sneer when I remember the misery he put me through at the office.

How he treated me is no different from how he treats me here at home, only this time, he's more demanding and bossy, and well... that's because he's my boss.

He sure did make that very clear to me when he asked me to always address him as 'Sir' whenever we're speaking.

That wasn't even all of it. While I was trying to understand my job, he prank-called me and forced me to practice better secretary-to-client communication skills with him. He had me do it three times since I didn't meet his expectations in my first two attempts. And as if that wasn't enough, when I finally passed his stupid test, he asked me to prepare his schedule for the day.

Motherfucker, I was just brought in! I know nothing about your fucking schedule! How can I prepare something I know nothing about?

Okay, I didn't tell him all that since I obviously wouldn't dare. But I was so pissed and frustrated. Clara was the one who helped me out in the end.

Like I said before, he didn't cut me any slack at all. In fact, he even dumped a new pile of work on my desk, asking me to go through every one of them. He forced me to bring him freshly made coffee and had me wait in his office until he finished the last drop. That took about twenty minutes, by the way.

He dismissed me right after without even so much as an apology for wasting my time, asking me to return to my tasks.

I'm telling you, that man is so mean and heartless!

I don't even know whether this job is some type of punishment in disguise. He could be paying me back for what I did a few weeks ago. I thought he had already punished me for that, but I guess I was wrong.

I sure was right about one thing though—this job is just another trap.

Shaking off my thoughts, I let my annoyance simmer as I finish washing up in the bathtub. I wash my hair as well before exiting the tub.

With a sigh, I clean myself up, grunting at the ankle monitor still strapped to my leg.

After wrapping a towel around myself to conceal my nakedness, I make my way back to my bedroom.

But I'm shocked when I re-enter and find Carmen sitting on the cozy sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window, where I normally read my novels. A cup of coffee in one hand, she's flipping through the magazines on the table with the other.

Yet her eyes find mine when she senses my presence.

Our eyes lock and she straightens on the sofa, a soft smile touching her lips as she regards me.

"Hey."

I'm surprised she's talking to me again. In fact, I'm very surprised to find her in my room and I can't help but wonder why she might be here.

Nonetheless, I return softly after an uncertain swallow, "H-Hey."
