Chapter Seventy Two
Chapter Seventy Two
Elliot
“You’re Marked.”
I stare at the doctor with wide eyes. “Are you sure?”
“Positive. Or at least…ninety-five percent positive.” He shrugs indifferently as he sat in his chair staring at the computer screen while the two of us sat on the other side of him.
“What do you mean ninety-five percent positive? It’s either we are or we aren’t.” Lincoln demands.
“Well, the thing is, it’s definitely a Mark. The patterns are the same down to the very last detail. After studying the Besson’s and then the Steffon’s, it’s clear as day. But…hmmm, it’s quite different as well.” He covers his mouth in concentration as he stares at the screen some more.
“What do you mean?”
“Well apart from the fact that it’s barely visible, the symptoms are different as well.” He sits up straighter and focuses on the two of us, disregarding his computer altogether. “Tristan’s and Axel’s reactions were very much the same as Cameron’s and Sia’s. The only difference between them was the fact that Tristan’s and Axel’s appeared at the same time and fiercer than what Cameron states his were. Sia acquired his weeks before Cameron got his Mark. So it was obvious emotions or feelings were in play. But you two…hmm.”
He sits back, placing his hand back over his mouth in concentration once more while again staring at his screen.
Lincoln sighs impatiently next to me. “I feel like this is a waste of time.” He goes to get up but I grab his arm and pull him right back down.
“Lincoln, this is important. Let him try and figure it out.”
“Alright, fine. Tell us what you think is happening, old man.”
I wince at his choice of words while Dr. Lee raises an eyebrow at him. “Okay.” He says slowly, once again sitting up straighter. “Here’s what I think but doesn’t necessarily mean its grounded. See, the thing that has me in loops is the fact that the two of you already made your promising vows or whatever it is you kids do these days, years ago. After getting some intel on your earlier life neither of you ever thought to find another partner-”
“Elli is my life why would I ever think to do that?”
“Lin…” I hush him to let the doctor finish. Even though the pleasure hearing him say those words flows through me making my heart flutter.
“As I was saying…” Dr. Lee gives Lincoln a pointed look for being interrupted. “Here is my theory. Neither of you noticed the mark even appeared until roughly around the same age, you were nineteen and you were twenty. And that was only because others saw it, which is explainable. Mr. Lowery you stated you didn’t even know you were an Omega until you found out you were pregnant correct?”
I nod to him. “I didn’t even have signs or symptoms. I still didn’t, not really, until Lincoln came back into my life.”
“Which tells me you’re a very recessive Omega, even more so than most. In fact, you’re basically near a Beta than an Omega. Which is shocking you were able to conceive at all, truth be told.”
“That just proves that Elliot is my soulmate.” Lincoln says smugly and proudly making me grin.
“Right.” Dr. Lee mumbles offhandedly. “From the story I was told by the two of you, I believe the Mark manifested when you were nineteen, at the time Mr. Lowery conceived. And that’s because I don’t believe he manifested as an Omega until then. This is only my theory but both of you confessed when you were very young, regardless of you manifesting at an early age, Mr. Nolan. Mr. Lowery was still just a Beta at the time so no Mark would have appeared since Betas don’t get Marked, or at least none has ever been recorded in history.”
“But if that’s the case why didn’t either of us feel anything? From what I was told by Cameron and Tristan they both experienced a burning and piercing pain. There wasn’t a single indication from what I could remember that anything happened at all.” I ask with a frown, feeling a little unsatisfied with all this.
“Not to mention that our Marks are barely there. Why aren’t they as dark as the others? My love for Elliot is far more deeper and meaningful then theirs is. If anything our marks should be black not flesh color.” Lincoln pouts.
“Lin, we can’t compare our love to others. Everyone is different-”
“I can and I will. You and I were meant to be together before we were ever born Elli, and you can’t change my mind on that.”
I roll my eyes with his dramatics but don’t argue because honestly I felt the same way.
“Be as it may, it’s more than likely Mr. Lowery’s fault on the visibility.”
Lincoln growls with displeasure. “What the hell does that mean?” He bits out, his face going a bit dark.
My heart sinks at that statement, but I gently clasp a hand on Lincoln’s bicep to calm him down. “Is it because of my weak second gender?” I ask carefully, afraid that’s the reason why we barely had the Mark to begin with.
“Your second gender isn’t weak Elliot. Don’t listen to this asshat. In fact, we’re done here.” He goes to stand up again, this time taking my hand to pull me after him.
“Wait! I didn’t mean it like that!” Dr. Lee scrambles to get out of his chair to chase after us. “I apologize. It was the wrong words to use. I didn’t mean it was a bad thing. It isn’t. Regardless of how faint or how dark a Mark is, the fact is, the Mark is there. Marked beings means they’re fated. So, you’re correct Mr. Nolan about what you said earlier. You and Mr. Lowery were meant to be together in this lifetime. It was written to be that way before either of you were born. Just like Tristan and Axel and Cameron and Sia. This should be a rarity and yet I was blessed to see it with my own eyes three separate times.”
I could tell he was feeling regret of causing Lincoln to be upset. But as he spouted his words Lincoln’s shoulders relaxed and his face was less dark than before.
“It’s clear to me now that each instance are different and none are the same. There is still so much to study on this. Allowing me to help understand the process is an honor. We still don’t know what the Mark is capable of. I hope you’ll allow me to be a part of the journey in its research.”
He sighs deeply before looking to me. “What do you think?”
I shrug. “It couldn’t hurt. Besides, I would like to know more about it especially if it involves you.”
Taking a hand he grazes my cheek before leaning in and kissing me tenderly. “I’ll go along with whatever you decide. But…” He looks to Dr. Lee again with a scowl. “Remarks like that one that degrades my mate is forbidden. I won’t stand by hearing him being talked down like that, is that understood old man?”
He quickly nods. “Of course! I never meant any offense I promise. I’ll be more careful on how I word things. Forgive me sir.”
“Good. I would hate to have the tabloids find a dead body in a warehouse somewhere.” He growls making the man’s face go completely pale.
“I-I would too, sir.” He weakly states.
I don’t get to react before Lincoln pulls me out of the office. I smack his arm. “Lincoln Nolan, that was horribly awful of you!” I give him a reprimanding stare.
He cracks a grin. “Really? I didn’t think so. I thought it was kind of fun. Think he peed his pants a little?”
I shove him a little as we walk outside to the car. “Unbelievable. So much for rumors. He’s probably thinking they’re all true now.” I mumble just before he grabs me around the waist, kissing me hard on the mouth.
“I could care less what people think of me as long as you know the truth Elli.” He whispers in my ear causing shivers to race down my spine.
I deflate in his arms. “You’re impossible. Come on, let’s go home to our son.”
His face beams at the mention of Cyan.
