Chapter 98 Emergency Situation

"You mean Elijah Brown?"

"Yeah, that's him."

"What's your deal with Elijah?"

"He's my benefactor."

Before Nash could say anything, someone came sprinting over.

"Something's up! Mr. Ross, you gotta see this. That guy, Elijah..."

Hearing the name, Calliope rushed forward.

"What happened to Elijah?"

Nash shot the guy a look and pulled him aside. "Keep it down. What's going on?"

"Elijah ran into a wall."

But Calliope still caught the words.

"What do you mean? What happened to Mr. Brown?!"

Sensing the tension, Nash said to Calliope quickly, "We'll take you to see what's up, but try to stay calm, Ms. Bishop."

"Okay, just get me there fast."

In the dimly lit prison, iron bars were everywhere.

A doctor hurried over with a medical kit.

Calliope could only watch from outside the medical room at Elijah lying on the bed, surrounded by people.

He was clearly beaten up, blood all over him. The wound on his forehead was the worst, with blood almost covering his entire face. If Calliope hadn't met Elijah many times, she might not have recognized him.

The doctor was frantically treating the wounds, while Nash was trying to keep things under control.

"Mr. Brown! Hang in there!" Calliope shouted, "What the hell happened here!"

A wave of fear and helplessness washed over Calliope. Even though it wasn't clear if they were related by blood, Elijah had always looked out for her like a father.

How did Elijah end up like this in prison? How could he get such severe injuries in a place that was supposed to be secure?

"Nash, why is Mr. Brown like this?" Calliope's voice shook as she tried to keep it together.

Now on his turf, it wasn't smart to blow things up, but Calliope knew staying silent wouldn't help either.

Just then, someone came over to report.

"Mr. Ross, we found out Elijah got into a fight with his cellmate."

"But didn't you say he ran into a wall before?" Calliope asked, her voice trembling. "Being forced to run into a wall counts too, right?"

"Bring them here for questioning and find out what happened," Nash ordered firmly.

Not long after, a burly man was brought over.

"Did you do this?" Nash asked directly. Even if the guy was tough, he couldn't ignore the question.

"Yeah, I did it."

"What did he do to make you so mad?" Nash pressed, his tone serious.

"He didn't do anything. Just his high-and-mighty attitude pissed me off!" The guy answered with disdain, clearly not thinking he did anything wrong.

"So you just hit him?" Nash's brows furrowed, clearly angry at the unprovoked violence.

To Calliope, this might also be a show for her.

"Yeah, I hit him. But isn't that how it is in prison? Survival of the fittest. If he doesn't get that, he deserves a lesson!" The guy said arrogantly.

Calliope stood there, her anger and worry mixing together. She knew Elijah was usually a gentle guy. Something must have pushed him into this mess!

Just then, the doctor came out, his white coat stained with blood, looking pretty grim.

"Elijah's in bad shape. We need to get him to a hospital ASAP for more treatment."

"Alright, get the transfer sorted out now," Nash ordered quickly.

Honestly, Nash didn't really care about Elijah's well-being. It was just because Elijah was Calliope's benefactor, and Calliope was Matthew's girl.

If Elijah died here, it could cause a lot of trouble. Plus, seeing how worried Calliope was, it wouldn't hurt to show some concern.

"Ms. Bishop, we'll handle this right away. Don't worry; Elijah will get the best care."

Calliope could only nod at this point.

When they got to the hospital, the doctor told them that due to a recent big car accident, they were low on blood and Elijah needed a transfusion.

"You might want to check with some blood banks," the emergency doctor suggested to Nash before heading back in.

Nash wasn't about to use his connections for a guy serving a life sentence.

Besides, there was a better option right now.

"Ms. Bishop, why don't you call Mr. Moore and ask?"

"No, I..."

She had snuck out.

If Matthew found out she had run off and got into all this, he'd probably be furious.

"But right now, only Mr. Moore can get the blood we need, right?"

Calliope went quiet. Out of everyone she knew, only Matthew had that kind of pull.

Now wasn't the time to hesitate, with Elijah's life on the line.

She pulled out her phone, her fingers shaking as she dialed Matthew's number.

As soon as the call connected, Matthew's slightly angry voice came through. "Where the hell have you been?"

Matthew knew Calliope had snuck out to see Bianca, but he let it slide, thinking she hadn't caught up with the Brown family in a while.

But he didn't expect her to vanish without a trace so quickly.

Matthew had just sent people to look for her when he got her call.

How could he not be mad? It was heavy raining outside, and she had not fully recovered from her illness!

He was about to scold her when he heard Calliope's trembling voice. "Matthew, I need your help."

Matthew went silent, and when he spoke again, his voice was calm.

"What is it?"

Calliope quickly explained Elijah's situation and the urgent need for blood.

"Got it. I'll take care of it, but Calliope, I never do a losing deal."

Was Matthew hinting at something again?

Calliope bit her lip, unsure of what else she could offer. She had already agreed to his three-month deal.

"What else can I give you?"

Of course, Matthew had already anticipated her response when he spoke.
