Epilogue
Arthur opened his eyes and smiled brightly while looking at the mesmerizing decorations and arrangements in front of him. The flower arrangements at the gazebo stood out the most. And the most authentic and the wow factor was the sign at the entrance of the venue. Mr & Mr.
Arthur chuckled reading the words on the tag Duke was wearing. “Dad+Dad are getting married”. Duke was Arthur and Ethan’s dog, he is a golden retriever breed and Ethan had got Duke for Arthur a few days after their reunion.
“What are you thinking about?” Ashley, Arthur’s cousin asked him while she came and stood next to him.
He shook his head, “Nothing. Just...” he sighed.
“Overwhelmed?” she raised her brows.
“I guess,” he replied.
“Don’t be bro. All’s well that ends well,” she rubbed his back, trying to calm his nerves. Everyone would get a little nervous on their wedding day. She totally understood Arthur’s feelings at the moment. He was getting married to the love of his life after going through hell and back.
Arthur noticed his ex-wife, Emily walking in his direction. She had a small smile on her face and Arthur knew very well how much pain she was masking behind that smile. Ashley too noticed Emily and smiled at her. She excused herself and gave privacy for the exes to talk.
“I received your letter last night,” Emily said smiling at Arthur. He nodded his head. Last night, he had sent a handwritten letter to Emily through their daughter, Amity.
Dearest Emily,
I thought a lot before penning down this letter to you. Tomorrow I am going to get married to Ethan. I know how much pain I have caused you by marrying you and having a baby with you and now separated from you. But I have never regretted it and never will. You will always have a special place in my heart. You are the most beautiful soul I have ever met in my life. I will always treasure you. If anything I am the unlucky one here. Because I did not deserve you or your love. But thanks a ton for giving it to me and taking care of me throughout our marriage. I am beginning a new chapter in life. I know it is difficult for you but I hope you will find someone who will always love and cherish you from the core. You and Amity will always be an integral part of my life. You will always be my parenting partner. I hope we can raise our daughter well. Loads of love to you.
Yours,
Arthur
Arthur and Emily stare at each other for some time. Neither of them had the courage to speak anything.
“You deserve to be happy Arthur. I am very happy that you have found your love and marrying him. Ethan is a wonderful man,” Emily managed to say without choking on her tears. But Arthur could see her tears. He leaned forward and hugged her tightly. She clung to him and let her tears flow. He rubbed her back and she calmed down a bit.
“I will always love you, Emily,” he whispered.
She nodded her head as an acknowledgment, “I know, Arthur. I will continue to love you.”
They had to break their hug because of their little munchkin screaming for them. She was running towards them, “Papa!! Mommy!!”
Arthur and Emily looked at their daughter. He walked towards her and picked her up into his arms and kissed her cheek.
“Papa you are not ready yet? Ethan is all ready. He has worn the suit and looking very handsome,” Amity said making her father laugh.
“Stop calling Ethan by his first name, Amy. At least call him uncle,” Emily said.
“I’ll think about it mommy,” Amity said twirling her hair dramatically.
“Arthur go and get ready. It’s time. You should get married to the love of your life soon,” Emily said smiling. Arthur nodded his head and moved forward to kiss on Emily’s forehead and hug her once before moving on officially.
Emily stood there watching her ex-husband walk away. She left out a heavy sigh and blinked her eyes attempting to send back her tears into her eyes.
On the other side, Vanessa sat in Ethan’s room and stared at him, pouting heavily. He was getting his hair styled.
“What happened?” Ethan asked her. She did not reply to anything but continued to pout.
After the hairstyling, the stylist left the room. Ethan and Vanessa were left alone in the room. He stood up and walked to her.
“Why are you sulking?” he asked. He knew he was breaking her heart but he had to get his heartbeat.
“Nothing. I am happy for you. But..” she left the words unsaid.
He leaned down and kissed her forehead, “You and Arthur better live a good life, or else I’ll arrange a coup against you both with Emily,” he heard her saying. He chuckled at her words. She was right indeed. He and Arthur should live a good life after all the things they have gone through and the hearts they have broken.
Soon, it was time for the wedding. The guest list was extended only to immediate family members and close friends. Ethan’s mom, Arthur’s mom, and his cousin Ashley and her wife, Natalia, their close friends, Jake and Kobe, and of course Vanessa and Liza were present at the venue. And the grooms stood in front of the officiant, Ethan’s father, senior Francis.
“The couple will now exchange the vows they wrote themselves because I guess mine wasn’t good enough, but let’s see what you’ve got,” said senior Francis making everyone laugh out loud.
“That’s a good one Grandpa,” Amity said giving a thumbs up to senior Francis which he returned winking at her.
Ethan shook his head in disbelief. Over time, Ethan’s parents had grown very close to Amity, especially his father. He adores her and spoilt her hell lot as though she was not spoiled at all.
The couple said their vows and the officiant pronounced them as a married couple. Arthur and Ethan sealed the deal with a kiss on the lips. The crowd cheered for them and Amity gave the epic reaction by closing her eyes making the crowd laugh more.
After all, they deserved a happy ending. Everyone deserves happiness and has the freedom to live as they like, as long as they don’t harm anyone.
