Chapter 87 : "Worries"
T A T E
"M-Modest?" I stutter.
She nods. "Can I come in?"
"I thought Harry and the other lads were off to a meeting with the management?" I ask, I honestly don't want her to come inside. I'm sure she's here to talk things with me about Harry and what I have with him.
"Can we talk? Preferably inside."
I take a deep breath in and widened my door for her. She walks inside while her eyes were looking at everything that was inside the suite. I carefully shut the door close and followed her to the living room.
"How was Cardiff?" She asks and sits down on the couch even if I didn't offer her to sit.
"I-It was fine. Thank you." I answer as I sit across her.
She nods. "I'm sure you had fun. Is Harry going to sleep here too or is he staying with his family tonight?"
I press my lips together and entwined my fingers to each other.
"I heard you just arrived an hour ago. Has Harry mentioned how he's going to spend his four days off and where he's going to spend it?" She kept throwing questions at me.
She grins. "Miss Kavanaugh, you might not see how important Harry is to the management. We do everything we can to protect his privacy and to keep his fame and most especially his reputation."
"That's why you lie to the entire world and to their fans about the real truth and what really goes on behind the cameras?" I snapped.
"We entertain people, that's how showbiz goes."
"But that's not entertainment. You don't entertain people by lying to them. You can't do things that are against your artist's will even if he or she is signed to your contract. You can't make them do things that they don't want to do."
She throws her head back and laughs. "Oh Miss Kavanaugh, that's what the contract is for. They signed it, that's why they're gonna do everything we tell them to do even if it's against their will. If we want them to act straight then they have to hide their real gender. You clearly don't know anything about how this world runs."
"I think I don't even want to know." I spat.
She grins.
"What are you even doing here? What do you even want from me?" I angrily asked her.
"You. You're a huge distraction for Harry."
I scoff.
"Harry's soaring and will still soar higher because he's still so young. He's huge to this industry. He's at the peak of his career. He still have a lot of things to do that will make him even more famous. You don't see it like we do but we can make Harry even ten thousand times more famous than he is right now." She continued to say.
Her eyes looks back at me angrily. "But you, you're just like a peck of dust that blinded our talent. A peck of dust that can't and won't leave his eye. You're blinding him. You'll ruin him. You'll destroy his career."
My tears building behind my eyelids and felt myself whimpering.
"You're a dirt. A stain on his shirt that doesn't want to leave." She adds.
"I love him." I spat at her as I travelled my eyes back to him.
"Your love will ruin his bright future. You don't know what's ahead for Harry. A lot of commercials are backing out after Harry got involve on that stupid scandal. You're ruining him."
"I'm not! I'm not ruining him! If you've even fallen in love for some one for once in your life you'll know exactly how I feel right now for Harry. If you even have a heart left inside of you, you will know how to love and how it feels to be in love!"
She laughs humorlessly. "Love won't make you rich in this cruel world Miss Kavanaugh."
I wipe my tears as they creeps down on my cheeks. "I love him. I'm madly in love with him."
"You're not. You try to say you love him but with all honesty you're only after him because he's famous and he's very wealthy."
I pull myself from the couch angrily, "Even once in the past months I've been with him, never have I ever wanted to be with him because he's famous. How can people be so judgmental just because I am in a relationship with him? Yes, he's fucking famous! Yes, his bank accounts have tons of endless zeros on the end of it. Yes I know he's loved and adored by millions and millions of women..."
I wipe my tears away, "But why can't people see it the other way around? Why can't people see how I truly love Harry Styles not because of his wealth and not because of his fame. I love him because it's what I feel when I'm with him. Why can't people even see that?!"
I whimper breathily as I kept pushing my hair behind my ear. She looks at me intently and grabs a piece of paper from her black suitcase and pushes it closer to me.
"Name your price." She tells me cold-heartedly.
"What?"
"I think you don't know how you affect Harry so much. You don't know what he has given up for you. You're not a good influence to his career."
My tears kept on falling down my cheeks but I let it fall. I'm too mad and too hurt to even care how I even look right in front of this heartless woman who works for that stupid management.
"W-what did Harry do?" I ask. I wanted to know.
She crosses her leg over the other and looks up at me, "You clearly don't have any idea, huh. Well, he went against the management and Harry has never done that before. He might have broken rules for Miss Meester but he never went against us. We are terribly afraid of what you've done to him."
"I didn't even do anything. I didn't tell him to go against you if that's what you're implying."
Her eyes bore into me stoically, not even caring about what I feel but only worries about Harry and his stupid career. "He threatened the President of Modest and he's not renewing his contract with us anymore."
My jaws dropped open. Harry's not renewing his contract with them? But what's gonna happen to him? Is he gonna leave the band just like how Zayn left? I can't let him leave that easily. He's done so much for the band and I know how much love, dedication and sweat he's put into all of this.
He can't give it all up for me. I thought he didn't mean that when he told me he's willing to give up everything, but he's really going to do this all for me.
"Ever since you came into his life, things went worse than we thought it would. The band is losing so many projects, photo shoots for magazines, their endorsers are backing out and a lot of hate are going around online all about the boys and the management." She continued to infiltrate my thoughts.
I sit back down on the couch nervously as I wipe away my tears.
"He's willing to give it all up for you and we are all worried for him. He's going to tear the band apart because of this. Do you even want the entire crew to hate on you?" She exclaims.
"You don't know how many people have sacrificed a lot for this band. You don't know much effort all of us have put into this band just to get them going what they love to do. You don't know all of the member's efforts, from Louis, to Liam and Niall, to the sound crew, to the security and everyone. You don't know anything because you don't care Miss Kavanaugh. You only want Harry to yourself." She nags.
I shake my head as I wipe my tears. "That's not true."
I'm so confused.
I'm so confused.
I'm so confused.
"Have you even thought about it? If you ruin Harry, how will his fans even react to this? His fans will hate him. Do you even think this will make Harry happy? You're already ruining him. You're pulling him down." She adds.
"I love him..." I muffled.
"If you love him, let him go. He doesn't need you. You're only ruining his name. Do you even want to see Harry being pulled down from the top?" She tells me.
I covered my eyes with my fists and just silently cried.
"If ever you've thought about this, you can always contact us. We are willing to give you the amount you want just as long as stay away from Harry." I hear her say.
I pulled my head back up to her and watched her stand from the couch. My eyes stared at the calling card placed on top of the table right in front of me.
"Name your price." She repeats those words once again. "Call us when you've made up your mind."
I laugh humorlessly. "I don't need your money. You can keep your cheques and millions. I don't need it."
"Call us. We will be expecting."
I shake my head in confusion. I don't wanna call. I don't wanna end things with him.
"A lot of things worse than this will happen to Harry, Miss Kavanaugh. Harry wasn't born to be with someone in specific. He was born to entertain millions of people. He was born for his fans and not only for you." She adds.
I laugh under my throat. "You're depriving him and the other boys from happiness. How can you even say that? You're telling me that he was meant to be alone? You're completely out of your mind! Have you even asked Harry if he still wants to keep on doing things by faking it? By lying and doing publicity stunts just to keep that stupid fucking fame of his? Have you even asked Harry about that?!"
"He signed the contract, he is tasked to follow every rule and everything we tell him to do."
"Then you should've hired a dog, because when you tell it to sit it sits. You tell it to roll over it rolls over. You tell it to bark it barks. You tell it to play dead it plays dead." I spat.
She arches her eyebrow at me but I'm not scared of who she works for or who she even fucking is. I don't even care how big she is from the management or what's her rank.
Fuck her.
Fuck Modest!
"I just wanna be with him. That's all. But why is that so wrong?" I ask as I cry.
"Because you're not good for his career. If you continue on seeing and dating him, we will do everything we can just to separate you two. Might as well end it early before things heat up in the long run. We are powerful Tate. The management can do everything."
"You're only doing this because if you lose Harry, you know it'll be great loss for your stupid management. If you lose One Direction as your signed artist, you know you'll lose a gold damn piece that's why you're doing everything to protect them." I answered her while I breathe heavily.
I look up at her, "You're all selfish and insensitive to what your artists feels. You only think about yourselves. You're all greedy and hungry for money. I wonder how you even do these heartless and merciless things to innocent people. I pity you. I pity all of you. You don't know what real happiness is."
I wipe my tears off from my cheeks and stood form my couch. "I even wonder how you guys sleep at night for doing these. I wish your conscience will haunt you for the rest of your lives to all the things you've done not only to One Direction but to everyone who you've hurt, lied to, stepped on and used."
She takes a deep breath in and she looks back at me angrily.
"You already know the way out, you can already leave. And kindly tell the management to fuck themselves off." I spat.
She swallows heavily.
"Get out!" I yelled at her.
"Good talk, Miss Kavanaugh. Think about our offer. No. Think about how you will affect Harry in the long run if you will stay with him." She tells me.
"Are you even worth it when Harry will give up everything for you?" She adds before her heels hits the marbled floor of my suite, making a sound as she strut herself out of the room, banging the door loudly behind her.
I fell on the couch and just cried silently. I wanted to throw things. I wanted to scream. I wanted to pull her hair so bad and drag her all over the floor of this room. I wanted to run to Harry and just hug. I don't wanna leave him. I don't even wanna hurt him. I love him but Mrs. Summer's does have a point.
What if I will ruin Harry's career when I'm already ruining it? He's not renewing his contract that means he might possibly leave the band. I can't let him risk everything for me. I am not that worthy. I don't want him to stop what he loves to do. I can't let his fans hate me because of it. I can't let those things happen.
But fuck, I'm so madly in love with him to just leave him like that.
I cried for a little longer until I felt like my tears have run dry and my heart hurts like it's been just stabbed hundred times. I don't think I still have tears to shed because I've cried it all out for the past one hour.
By six-thirty, there came a ring on my doorbell and I weakly walks towards it. As soon as I swing it open, it was Harry. He looks back at me with a smile on his face and he looked so handsome with his white dress shirt, tucked in between his tight skinny pants and a pair of brown boots. He's so handsome and when I think about the stuff I talked with Mrs. Summers, I can't hide my pain away from my face. I don't know how to face him.
Harry looks back at me as if the talk he has with the management didn't go wrong. His brows began to crease on the center of his forehead while his green eyes darts straightly at me.
"Something wrong?" He asks while he cups my cheeks.
I shake my head and choked a sob.
"Why does your eyes looked swollen? Did you cry?" He asks again.
I laugh humorlessly. "I was watching this.... Ummm... Movie on tv... It kind of... Made me cry so hard."
"Movie?"
I nodded as he rubs his thumb on my cheek. "Pretty Woman. Richard Geir and Julia Roberts sure did got me."
I pulled a thumbs up.
"Are you sure?" He asked worriedly.
I nod vigorously, trying to stop my tears from falling.
"Let's go. We still have to see your parents." I faked a smile.
I entwined my fingers between the spaces of his fingers as we walk out together.
"I love you Harry. Don't ever forget that." I tell him.
"Did something happen while I was gone?" He asks.
The way his green eyes looks back at me worriedly makes me cry again.
"Nothing." I tried to laugh but my voice is failing me.
"I'm fine." I exhale heavily as I gently squeezed his hand.
