Chapter 155 Miles and Victoria's talk 1

Chapter 155 Miles and Victoria's talk 1
Irene and the other two went silent, everyone lost in their separate thoughts.

Irene could barely believe the truth her best friend had revealed to her.

She had always thought that Lawrence was the one who had something to do with this. She didn't know how... But he was the one who seemed possible.

Not Tori's father.

And the crazy part was that he was never targeting her. She had just gotten in the way. And then the psycho refused to let her go.

That was a lot to take in.

After almost five minutes of silence, Victoria couldn't take it anymore. The guilt was killing her, and the silence was killing her too.

She dropped into the empty space next to Irene and turned to look at her.

"What are we going to do about my father?" she asked.

They had to do something about the information she had just told them. That was why she told them.

A sigh left Irene's lips as she snapped out of her thoughts. She blinked before looking at her best friend.

"Would you hate me if I say that I want the authorities to take over?" she asked.

Tori's heart unconsciously skipped a beat.

Sure, her father was never there for her as a dad. He supported the witch of a stepmother she had almost every time, and he wanted her friend dead, but she still felt scared at the thought of him getting arrested.

Before she could find the words to say, Miles came to her rescue.

"That's cute." He scoffed, sitting at Irene's other side, which blocked him from Tori's view. "What would you tell them? Arrest this man. He is responsible for several deaths because he's the one who hired this crazy stalker, and I know that because I've seen the future."

Irene pressed her lips together, rolling her eyes.

"Well, not exactly like that." She dragged, leaving her back, but then realized that there was no backrest. So she straightened again.

Miles shook his head, inhaling.

"You don't have any proof, Irene." He said, tapping her shoulder and shaking his head again. "It won't work."

Irene didn't seem to like that, even though she already knew that what he was saying was the truth.

"So what are you suggesting we do? Nothing?" she asked as her expression plummeted.

She actually had a chance here, a huge one, of changing the future into something else.

Because if Tori's father was arrested, that stalker would be convicted. He already had an attempted murder on his record, so the court would have no reason not to convict him.

But for the future she wanted to happen, she had to ruin her best friend's father.

Miles shrugged, in other words saying that doing nothing was best.

"Unless you can go back to the past, you know, before her father makes the stupid decision of hiring him, or just right after he orders him to kill Nelson." He said, his tone sounding a little sarcastic, but neither Irene nor Tori got it.

Since they didn't, he just sighed again before answering.

"Then at least we would have something."

"Excuse me." Tori, who had been sitting quietly for the last two minutes, finally spoke up. She cleared her throat, pointing at her chest. "I don't know if you guys remember that this is my father we're talking about here."

Irene turned away from Miles to look at her, an apologetic expression on her face.

"I'm sorry. I'm just..." She paused to breathe. "Reliving my trauma."

Trauma that her father caused.

The little annoyance Tori had vanished immediately. She grabbed Irene's hand and shook her head.

"No, you can hate on my father all you like."

Guilt-tripping.

Worked every time.

Only that, this time, it was the truth. All the talk about the stalker made flashes of the last futuristic memory she had appear in her head.

Nelson's bloody, limp body on hers.

The way tears poured out of her eyes as she cried and wailed for help.

The pain she felt in her chest the more she called Nelson and he didn't answer.

Everything.

"No." Irene smiled, holding Tori's hand with her free hand. "Thank you for telling me."

Even though she knew how much she hated the person who ruined her life, she still told her the truth.

Irene was glad that she still had someone she could count on. Only that, this wasn't the best time to see that person. She stood up, slowly removing her hands from Tori's grasp.

"I'd just..." She pointed to the back. "I'd just go back to the hospital to see Nelson."

If only he believed her, then she could at least tell him that she now knew who was responsible for his death in the future and why.

Now she understood why the stalker didn't just kill her. Because somewhere amidst his following her, he remembered his actual mission.

He just made it with his while by keeping him alive until she came to join him.

Thankfully, Nelson didn't believe her. At least she could just spend time with him without talking about things like this.

Letting out another sigh, Irene forced a smile onto her lips and waved to Miles, then to Tori, who pulled her into a huge hug instead.

"I'm sorry." Tori whispered in her ear, and this time, a genuine smile spread on Irene's lips.

"You've said that a million times already. It's not your fault."

Only her crazy father.

Irene pulled away from the hug, gave Tori a thin-lipped smile, and then walked away.

"Bye, Irene." Miles shouted, waving at her as she walked away.

Tori also waved at her as she left.

"Bye, Irene."

In less than a minute, Irene was out of sight. She had returned to the same place she came from: the hospital.

The atmosphere between Tori and Miles slowly began to feel awkward.

Tori's heart began to beat faster than normal, and she could feel this growing sense that Miles wanted to talk, which wasn't what she wanted at the moment.

She fanned her face with her fingers, suddenly feeling hot, while looking straight ahead, deliberately avoiding Miles' gaze, which didn't seem to want to leave her.

"Hm..." Tori hummed, scooting towards the end of the bench.

Fuck.

She couldn't take this anymore.

She grabbed her purse and slowly stood up less than a minute later.

"I guess I'd be leaving too, then."

Miles stood up as well, copying her.

"Tori." He said, and Tori, who had already turned around to leave, halted in her steps, her back straightening.

"Don't you think that we need to talk?"

"My father hasn't done anything to you, right?" Tori joked as she turned around, letting out a small laugh, one which slowly died down when she noticed the serious look on Miles' face.

"We both know that it's not about that." He said without a smile on his face.
