Chapter Forty-Six
Kerry
Kerry walked over toward the infirmary the next morning, giving the professor time to chill out before he began his interrogation. One of the pack nurses was checking the bump on his head when he walked through the door.
The professor jumped back against the wall, cowering behind the shewolf in fear. "No! Get him away from me! He's the one who did this," he said, pointing toward the bump on his head.
Kerry halted in the doorway with a smile on his face. There was a fairly big bump on his face, and it made Kerry chuckle. He had seen much worse on humans. "I come in peace," he said.
The nurse gave him a look. "Have a seat, Kerry. You can chat with Mr. No Name here, while I put a bandage on this. He's like a kid, adamant that he needs a bandage."
Kerry plopped down in the chair and made uncomfortable eye contact with him. "I'm not some supernatural human. I need a bandage."
Kerry rolled his eyes. Weak human. "Mr. No Name, huh? You think Claire doesn't know your name and we can't find it out?"
He made a face.
"Ah, not talking?" Kerry stood up. "Do you have amnesia? Let me refresh your memory..."
"Brad. I'm Brad," he said with a sigh. When Kerry sat back down, Brad went back to frowning. "People are going to come looking for me."
"Umm-hmm," Kerry said, picking at a string on his jeans. "So," he said, leaning forward, "tell me about who came and saw you. What did she say exactly? When did she say she would come back?"
Brad sighed as if he were exasperated with the conversation. "How many times… I don't know who it was. She had whitish-blonde hair, was pretty, and said she needed to use me to get close to the pack house. She was keeping an eye on someone."
"My mate? The one you were following? Demetria?"
"Yes, she said it was a blonde witch. She also said she was looking for something. Something that didn't belong here."
"A bird?" Kerry asked.
He jerked when the nurse placed the bandage on his forehead. "No," he said. "Something about a book or a pendant?"
Kerry scrunched his brows. The pendant he suspected, but not a book. What would they need with a book? They were into dark magic. "The spell book?"
Brad met Kerry's stare, and Kerry noticed the longing in his eyes. Cynthia had been right at the power the book would hold over a human. "No, she said I could keep that if I wanted it." He grimaced. "No thanks to you all. It was a different book, something that would ruin her."
"The diary?" Kerry mumbled to himself. Claire was currently trying to make it through the pages. "Interesting." What did Ivory do to Sabrina that would ruin her? What did Sabrina know?
"Can I leave now?" he asked.
Kerry chuckled. "No. We'll have to hold a pack meeting about that, and it's not looking good for you. You should have never followed me around, or come on pack land."
"She told me to!"
Kerry stopped mid-step. "How did she come to you? She can't physically get here until the full moon."
"She didn't come to me in person," he said. "Well, I mean, I could see her, but I couldn’t touch her. It was in my bedroom mirror. I'd been in the middle of trying to fly, because I mean that's the best thing in that stupid book, and she materialized there."
"You really should find a hobby, Brad. Dark magic isn't something you need to delve into. Look where it's put you. In a pack house's infirmary with a king suite being prepared for you in the dungeon."
"You're going to put me in the dungeon? I want to go home. I promise not to deal with the witch—"
"It's too late. She will be back," Kerry said, giving the nurse a look. "Is he going to be okay?"
She put her hands on her hips. "He's fine."
Kerry grabbed him by the back of his shirt and dragged him toward the door. Surprisingly, Brad didn't fight as Kerry took him toward the jail cell positioned in the basement of the infirmary.
It was clean enough and even had a little window for some natural light. One of the she-wolves had made the bed with fresh sheets. Brad walked inside and turned to wrap his hands around the bars. "Are you ever going to let me out?"
Kerry shrugged. "Maybe after all of this crap is over, and the witch is gone. I don't see why we would need you."
"Could you do me a favor?" he asked.
Kerry gave him a deadpan look. "What?"
"Could you call the university and tell them I'm sick? That I'll be back in a week or so?"
"I'll talk to the alpha about it, and have Claire take care of it. Someone will bring you breakfast. There aren't any mirrors down here, but if the witch comes back to you, tell us."
"I'm scared of her," he whispered.
Kerry nodded. "You should be."
He walked up the stairs, and toward the pack house. Demetria and Cynthia had left that morning to go practice with the wolves. Kerry walked into the back door of the pack house and grabbed some breakfast from Grace.
She seemed in good spirits; she loved feeding all of the wolves. "Good morning, Kerry. Your mate is showing out this morning."
"Yeah?" he asked, lifting a brow, trying his best to hide his smile.
Grace reached over the island and patted his hand. "I'm happy for you, sweetie."
Kerry almost inhaled his plate and hurried outside to see. Demetria stood with her back to him, which was a grand view if you asked him. She swirled her hand in a circular motion, leaves and dirt forming a mini tornado right in the pack house's yard.
Claire held her hands up while Cynthia laughed and clapped hers. The alpha walked over and slapped Kerry's shoulder. "I'm happily mated, son, but that's impressive."
Grave cleared her throat from behind them. "Excuse you, Alpha Allaire Davers. Watch it."
Kerry chuckled, and Demetria turned around to look at him over her shoulder. "You thought I was all talk, didn't you?"
Kerry grinned. "Not for a second."
"Better watch out," she said with a chuckle. "Aunt D is back."
