Chapter 72.

The End.

The Vows

The priest begins the ceremony, but the most important part is the exchange of vows they have written themselves.

Alicia looks at Lucas, her eyes shining.

“Lucas, my love. Today, I not only marry the man I love, but the father of my children and the builder of my home. I didn’t think I would ever be happy again. I thought I would live in the shadows, paying for my past mistakes. But you found me, you forgave me, and most importantly, you gave me a reason to believe in love. I promise to love, honor, and respect you. I promise to stand by your side in sickness and in prosperity. I promise to be your refuge and your peace. I promise to love and guide our children. I love you with the force of the time we were apart.”

Lucas takes a deep breath, holding Alicia’s hands.

“Alicia. My Alicia. You are the light in my darkness. Life without you was an empty wasteland. Every day I searched for you, not out of obsession, but because my soul knew it was missing its other half. I learned that wealth is not money, but the laughter of a child and the gaze of the woman I love. Today, I swear to you that every breath I take will be dedicated to making you and our children happy. I promise to be transparent, loyal, and patient. I promise to cherish you every day. I don’t promise you a life without problems, but I promise we will face every single one, together. I love you, my love, and this vow is unbreakable.”

Julián, with the seriousness of an adult, approaches and holds out the cushion with the rings.

The rings are exchanged. The priest declares them husband and wife.

Lucas lifts Alicia’s veil. He cups her face with a reverent delicacy.

“Finally, you are my wife,” Lucas whispers.

“And you my husband.”

The kiss is long, passionate, but above all, filled with the peace that only true love can give.

The afternoon sun bathes the small garden of the country house Lucas secretly bought, far from Milan and the shadow of the Janks, in a golden light. It is not the lavish wedding Lucas would have planned in his previous life, but an intimate celebration, a vow forged in adversity.

Alicia is radiant, dressed in a simple but elegant white lace gown that highlights her figure. She looks at Lucas, who watches her with a priceless devotion, a man who has learned that love is more valuable than any empire.

Their family is by their side. Julián, a three-year-old boy, is the spitting image of Lucas, running around with the energy of his age, and his little sister, tiny Alis, barely a year and a half old, clings to Alicia's skirt, with her mother's ashen blonde hair and her father's bright eyes. The children's presence is tangible proof that Lucas and Alicia's love was always more than a forbidden whim.

The only witnesses are the pillars of their resistance: Nana and Gael, the chauffeur and former head of security. Nana, with discreet tears of happiness, holds Alis. Gael, now a family confidant, smiles from a distance, the only man from the old Jank Corporation who maintained his loyalty until the end.

Lucas raises a crystal glass. “To what was, to what is, and to what will be,” he says, looking at Alicia. “I chose money and power once. You chose love. I will always be one up on you, because the love you brought is the only treasure that matters. Thank you, my love, for giving me the family I never thought I deserved.”

Alicia smiles, her eyes shining. “There are no more shadows. Only light. To us.”

A New Beginning

Julián and Alis clap as Lucas and Alicia cut the cake, a simple creation with white frosting that symbolizes the purity of their new beginning. Nana and Gael laugh, a free and authentic laugh.

After the cake, the time for farewell arrives. It is a necessary departure to begin their honeymoon, the first moment of peace they have had in years.

Alicia approaches Nana, hugging her tightly. “Thank you for being our angel, Nana. For taking care of my babies.”

“You are my family, my child,” Nana replies, cradling Alis. “Go. Be happy. Your little ones are safe here. The world is different now. Lucas is the man he was meant to be.”

Lucas bids Gael farewell with a handshake. “Thank you, friend. For your loyalty.”

“It’s an honor, sir. The children are in good hands. Go in peace.”

Lucas and Alicia get into a car, leaving the garden and their children behind, confident in Nana's protection and Gael's vigilance.

The Sanctuary by the Sea

Lucas drives her to an apartment facing the sea, in a private and tranquil bay, far from the city and the noise. It is a place he bought under a corporate name that Carolina could never trace, their true sanctuary.

The sun is sinking on the horizon, coloring the water in orange and violet tones. Lucas and Alicia walk down to the beach. Barefoot, they feel the cold sand beneath their feet and the rhythmic sound of the waves. The calm is so deep it is almost deafening.

They walk along the shore. The conversation is of whispers, of promises and memories of the madness they lived through.

“You took the chaos from my life and gave me this silence, this family,” Lucas says, stopping and taking Alicia’s hand.

“We had to go through the fire for you to realize that the empire was not in the shares, but in what we built together. Now that Carolina has faced the weight of her decisions, has been left with nothing after the Janks turned their backs on her, that everyone knows her true face, that justice and karma taught her a lesson, now she lives in a poor neighborhood and works in a small clothing store, far from us, we can live peacefully, happily. Peace has finally reigned for us,” Alicia replies, raising her face to him.

Lucas looks into her eyes, with the promise of a life without masks.

“Alicia, I declare my eternal love. You are my anchor, my strength, the only truth in my life. Amidst adversity, I promise happiness and prosperity. Together, we are no longer Lucas Jank and Lucas's niece. We are Julián, Alis, and us. We are one unit, unbreakable.”

Alicia nods, the tears that fall are only of happiness and relief. “And I promise you my life, my love. Without pretense, without fear. I accept adversity, as long as it is with you.”

The wind blows, carrying away the memory of the old life. Lucas kisses her, a kiss that seals the wedding vow, the kiss they have dreamed of since the beginning.

The last light of day fades over the horizon, sealing their destiny in the immensity of the sea.

“Always yours, always mine, always ours.”
