CHAPTER 28: PARTNER

My earpiece has been beeping nonstop but I was too sleepy to answer it so I turned it off.

I few hours later, I woke up in a completely different room.

Where the bloody hell am I?

I turned on my earpiece and I suddenly received an incoming call.

"Thank God you answered!"

"Where am I?"

"That's the reason why I was calling you nonstop! Your husband suddenly cut off all connections but because I was so brilliant I could still contact you with the help of your brother's equipment,"

What? Isaac did? We were just watching movies yesterday, what happened to him?

" Anyway, I can only keep this connection for about three more weeks after that it's all out. Now I want you to look outside and tell me what you see, "

I hopped off my bed and walked outside. This house looks like a villa but never mind that...

"I see a lot of trees, looks like a house in the middle of the woods. I see smoke somewhere near here so I guess there’s a camp near here, I can also hear waves somewhere around the northeast,"

"Dude! You're miles away from us! That's why I couldn't reach you! What's your plan? Do you want me to fetch you?"

I looked around and thought of something good. I don't know why Isaac suddenly did this but I also need to start taking steps on my own.

" No, this is great. But I want you to join me here. Find us a new hideout and let's move there, "

" You're not trying to run away with me right? HAHAHA"

"Shut up Hudson, until you arrive I'll be waiting in that house and feel my surroundings," I said and ended the call.

I went back to the house and started checking if there were video cameras installed and I was right. I found a few from every corner so I tried finding listening devices too.

I found a hefty amount and stored them in a box. It's a good thing I talked to Hudson outside, they might have heard that I was talking to someone earlier but that won't affect anything.

I was going to go upstairs when the doorbell rang. Who's that? Hudson shouldn't be here that fast.

I checked the peephole and saw a woman who I think was the same age as I was holding a dish in her hand.

What is that? A housewarming gift. Is that still in trend?

I opened the door and hid the knife behind me.

"Oh Hi! We heard you just moved in! I made too much of this truffle pasta and I decided to share it with my new neighbor," she said with all smiles.

She didn't look suspicious so I took the food and gave her a fake smile.

"Sorry to trouble you like this, but I'll be moving out as soon as my friend arrives,"

"Ow that's too sad, do you already have a place in mind?"

"Well, not yet but I guess we'll have to look for a place first when he arrives,"

"If you want, you can occupy the house next to ours. My friend owns it and she just visits here from time to time,"

If we use that house she suggested then that would save us more time on our plate.

"Are you sure it's okay for us to use that? Wouldn't your friend get angry?"

"It's okay! And besides, you're new here so we ought to help new tenants. Oh, I'm Gwen by the way! Gwendolyn Zosia Vasquez, and that grumpy-looking man right there is my husband,"

I smiled, a genuine one and said, "I'm Aizen, nice to meet you and thank you for helping,"

"No problem! Just ring at our door when you need something,"

A few days after that I grew close with that family until Hudson finally arrived after two weeks. They showed us to the house next to theirs and told us what we needed to know.

It was our first day at the new house, Hudson didn't forget to get that house on his radar and check every now and then if someone visited but no one did.

Anyway, this is our first night at the new house and ai can't sleep. Hudson is in his own world, placing his gadgets around the house.

I heard a car screeching not extremely far from here, must be another neighbor. I was going to ignore that when I sensed something coming in my way.

I got up and caught the dagger single-handedly. What is this? Did Isaac find out already?

But it's not like Isaac to throw something like this, and this dagger looks familiar. Where have I seen this before?

I gripped the dagger and jumped out of the bed. Pointed my weapon at the corner side of the room and said, "Come out,"

"Impressive. Now tell me thief, who are you to barge in my territory and place devices in my house?"

That voice. And what did she say? Thief? Who? Me? And territory? Devices? Is she the owner of this house?

How did she find out that early? This was only our first day.

"Aizen! Someone barged in but the sensors didn't detect hi— Eleanor?"

Eleanor? Do you mean that Eleanor? Was once the leader of the famous group Kraken?

"Hudson? Who are you calling Aizen? That's a woman,"

I opened the lights and saw her. She's changed, but she still has that same expression when she's confused.

So that's why this dagger looks familiar. I threw her dagger back at her so she glared at me but I only chuckled.

" What's happening here? Why am I the only one who's clueless?"

"That's Aizen,"

Eleanor frowned. "Stop joking Hudson. Aizen— He died a few months ago so don't you dare speak his name,"

"But she's really him! Come on dude say something!"

I crossed my arms and sat on the sofa. "Larke it's really me," I said and looked straight at her.

Eleanor dropped the dagger she was holding and looked at me shocked...
