Heavy Quiet
Rory POV
The shadow moved fast too fast and that car roared closer, headlights blinding us. My heart slammed, my legs shaky, and Leo yanked me back, his hand tight on mine. “Run!” he yelled, his voice rough, pulling me down the street. My sneakers slapped the pavement, my breath fast, and the car swerved tires screeching before peeling off, the shadow gone. We stopped, panting hard, my chest heaving, and I grabbed his arm, my fingers digging in.
“What was that?” I said, my voice cracking, my eyes wide. He shook his head, his jaw tight, and muttered, “Nothing,” too quick, his hand twitching toward his pocket like he wanted a cigarette he quit months ago. My stomach flipped, my throat dry, but he squeezed my hand, his eyes soft. “Let’s go home,” he said, and I nodded, my chest tight, following him slow.
Next day at work, he was off quiet, jumpy, not himself. I dealt cards, my hands sweaty, my head spinning from last night his grin, our laughs, that shadow. Leo stayed by the bar, pouring drinks slow, his eyes darting to the door every few minutes. My chest buzzed when he looked at me warm, soft but something felt wrong, like a string pulled too tight.
I didn’t see it happen, but I knew. He slipped out during my break, his shoulders stiff, and came back fast too fast his face pale, his hands shaky. I caught him by the slots, wiping the bar, and smirked, leaning close. “You okay?” I said, my voice light, my hand brushing his arm. He nodded quick, jerky his eyes flicking away.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, repeating himself, his voice flat. “Just tired.” His hand twitched again, brushing his pocket, and my stomach twisted, small and cold. I didn’t push just squeezed his arm, my smirk fading, and went back to my table, my chest heavy. Something was off I felt it, saw it but I didn’t say it. Not yet.
That night, we crashed at his place, the air warm and quiet. He sat on the couch, his shirt loose, his eyes far off, and my heart ached soft, worried, wanting him. I climbed over, straddling his lap, my knees sinking into the cushions. “Hey,” I said, my voice low, my hands on his shoulders. He looked up, his eyes dark and tired, and my chest squeezed, seeing the strain there.
“Hey,” he mumbled, his hands sliding to my hips, slow and light. My fingers brushed his face, soft and careful, and I leaned in, kissing him gentle, deep trying to pull him back. His lips moved slow, his breath shaky, and I sucked at his collarbone, soft and wet, leaving red marks. He groaned low, rough his hands tightening, and my stomach flipped, heat rushing through me.
“I got you,” I whispered, my voice soft, my lips on his neck. “Just breathe.” He nodded, his head tipping back, his hands sliding up my back. My chest buzzed, my legs shaky, and I pressed closer, kissing away the tension slow, possessive my tongue tracing his skin. He moaned quiet, needy and my heart raced, my hands fisting his shirt.
We stumbled to the bed, my shirt off fast, his hands tugging my jeans down. I pushed him back, climbing over him, my breath fast. “Leo,” I said, my voice rough, my hands on his chest hot, solid, mine. He pulled me down, kissing me hard, his tongue pushing in, and my skin burned, my hips rocking slow.
He rolled us, his weight heavy, his hands spreading my legs. “Rory,” he muttered, his voice thick, his lips on my jaw. He pressed in slow, deep and I gasped sharp, loud my hands grabbing his back. My legs wrapped tight, my breath shaky, and we moved slow, steady his hips rolling, mine lifting. The bed creaked, soft and low, and my chest heaved, my fingers digging into his skin.
“I’m yours,” he whispered, his voice breaking, his breath hot on my neck. My heart swelled big, dumb and I moaned long, possessive my hands sliding to his ass, pulling him closer. “Mine,” I gasped, my voice rough, my body shaking. He nodded, his forehead on mine, and we kept going slow, deep our breaths mixing, our skin slick.
It built slow warm, heavy and I groaned loud, shaky my head tipping back. “Leo,” I said, my voice cracking, and he kissed me soft, desperate his hands tight on my hips. We came together quiet, trembling my chest buzzing, my legs weak. He slumped over me, his breath fast, his arms around me, and my hands stroked his hair soft, messy, warm.
We lay there, tangled and sweaty, my leg over his, his hand on my side. My chest felt full too full like it’d burst, and I smiled, small and soft, kissing his shoulder. “You okay?” I said, my voice low, my fingers brushing his collarbone red from my marks. He nodded, slow and quiet, his breath slowing.
“Yeah,” he said, his voice flat, his eyes on the ceiling. My stomach flipped small, cold and I watched him, my chest tight. He didn’t laugh, didn’t tease just lay there, silent, heavy. I thought he was overwhelmed tired, maybe and I’d kissed it away, but now, in the quiet, it crept in something’s off.
I rolled closer, my arm over his chest, my lips on his jaw. “I got you,” I said again, my voice soft, my hand stroking his side. He nodded quick, distracted his hand brushing mine, but he didn’t look at me. My throat tightened, my chest sinking, and I swallowed hard, watching him turn away too fast, too stiff.
The silence grew thick, heavy pressing down on us. My heart slowed, my buzz fading, and I stared at his back broad, tense, shutting me out. No jokes, no grin just quiet, and it hit me slow, like water rising something’s wrong. My stomach twisted, my hands cold, and I lay still, my breath shaky, knowing it but not saying it.
He shifted, his hand grabbing the sheet, pulling it up fast hiding, maybe and my chest ached, raw and tight. I wanted to ask What’s eating you? but my voice stuck, my throat burning. My fingers brushed his arm, soft and slow, and he flinched small, quick like it hurt. My heart dropped, my eyes stinging, and I pulled back, the quiet louder than ever.
Then a creak hit sharp, low outside the window. My head snapped up, my breath stopping, and Leo tensed, his hand freezing on the sheet. “What ” I said, my voice cracking, my chest tight. He sat up fast, his eyes wide, darting to the dark glass.
“Stay here,” he muttered, his voice low, his legs swinging off the bed. My heart raced, my hands shaky, and I grabbed his arm, my fingers digging in.
“Leo ” I said, my voice breaking, but a shadow flashed quick, tall outside, moving close. My stomach dropped, my breath fast, and he yanked free, stumbling to the window, his back stiff. The creak came again louder, nearer and my chest seized, fear choking me.
“Rory, down!” he hissed, spinning back, his eyes wild, shoving me flat. My heart slammed, my legs shaky, and I hit the bed hard, breathless my eyes locked on the window. A bang followed sharp, heavy glass rattling loud, and Leo cursed low, fast grabbing me tight as something crashed through, splintering the night.
