Chapter 153 153. Adele's Problem
Chapter 153 153. Adele's Problem
Isolde and Drake spent over an hour in one of the parlors in their wing of Thorne Castle. When they finally redressed, it was clear what they had been up to. Both looked quite disheveled.
Isolde had static in her straight white hair. Drake's black hair was fluffy and sticking out in different directions. Their clothes were wrinkled, and they held hands as they left the parlor. “Did Lucifer give you a full breakdown of what he found out, or was it all the same thing we learned from the dragon? Should we go check on that beast?” Drake said.
“He hasn’t said much to me, though I think he is off finally making that clutch with Lilly,” Isolde said, smirking. “Wait, what.... You heard.”
“Oh, I heard everything in that comma, but come on, I think we should check on our dragon, don’t you?” She said, and he smirked, and the two began the walk outside, passing a room full of their friends and someone neither of them expected to be in their castle. “Drake, Isolde, come in,” Lydia called out, and the two stopped at their planned destination to enter the room.
Lydia, Hugo, and Felix were smirking at them, seeing their disheveled appearance. Then there was Adele, who had a sneer on her face. Neither of them knew why the hell she was there. “So how did it go with the oh noble commander?” Hugo asked. Isolde snorted, falling Drake to his seat and plopping down into his lap.
Adele looked repulsed. Drake answered Hugo, “Fine, he told us what was going on, though I expect you three have better insight than that old raven.” Isolde snorted; it wasn’t a bad comparison. He did resemble Edgar Allen Poe, she thought; maybe he was a raven, or rather a crow, she thought.
“You two realize you look like something out of legend, right, riding on the back of a dragon, you both looking so much like deities in the look department, I would say I am almost jealous,” Lydia commented. Still, Isolde saw how she frowned at the last part of the comment. “Elliot will be alright; his dad has a lot of money. They would use it to keep him safe.” Isolde tried to cheer her friend up, offering her kind words.
“Why are you all acting like they are normal, and Lydia, what happened to you?” Adele said, and Isolde’s eyes turned to her, scowling. “Adele, tell me why you are in my home, and what is stopping me from feeding you to my dragon, and I don’t mean the one I am currently sitting on.” Saying that made Drake almost groan in excitement; he shifted her on his lap to hide the erection that had started from her words.
“I am here because my husband and his family are wraiths.” She said, straightening her neck as if it was a normal thing to say.
“Wraiths? Your pathetic husband is a wraith.” Isolde snapped at her. “My pathetic? What? He isn’t pathetic, and how dare you.”
“Shut it, Adele. You aren’t among your friends anymore, and I, for one, would love to see Isolde and Drake feed you to your dragon.” Lydia snapped at her.
“What happened to all of you? We were all friends for years, and now you're treating me like I am some villain in your story. I haven’t done anything.” Adele said, looking at all of them.
“That is where you're wrong, Adele. You called me a whore, and you sided with a girl that took Isolde’s eye, or have you forgotten? Tell me, have you already started drinking to cope with your pathetic life? I did tell you your choice was pathetic, didn’t I?” Lydia snapped at her.
“He is perfectly fine, thank you, and I didn’t know Roselin would do that. Furthermore, I warned her not to get on Isolde's bad side, and I told you I was sorry about the comment. I told you that when I got here I apologized again. Are you never going to let that go? I didn’t mean it; I was just an angry kid.”
Lydia stared at her. “I could have moved on from your disgusting comment had you not sided with a girl that hurt my best friend.”
Isolde then added, “And while I wasn’t out to get you anymore, I can’t forgive you for what you called my best friend. It was uncalled for, and how dare you come in here to my home and sit there and glare and put your snooty nose in the air when I clearly show affection for my husband. It isn’t my fault you chose some boring bastard.”
Adele's face fell; she could see she was not wanted anymore. “It isn’t your home, you know; it is Thorne Castle. Millicent and Cassius Thorne are the owners.” Drake spoke now. “Adele Isolde is my wife; we are bonded, and she owns this place as much as my parents, maybe more because she has brought a dragon to defend it. Or have you forgotten that old wards work and yield to those who bleed and sacrifice on this land?”
Adele paled. She did know that. Isolde had burned those attacking the wards, and the wards were very old craft; she had strengthened them by her actions, and it did make her a part of the Thorne household. “And even if Lydia and my wielder did decide to forgive you, I never would; you befriended the person who took my wielder's eye.”
Adele slumped into the seat. She hated this; she hated being there, being pushed out of the group. A friend group she had been a part of since they were all babies. Yet Isolde came in, and at first it was all good, but Lydia changed. Then they fought, and she lost her friends. It made her feel horrible. She also knew it was her fault, but she could see none of her apologies would work. She had offended them all, and Hugo and Felix hadn’t even said anything.
Worst of all, those years ago when Lydia said she had picked a dull boy to pair up with, she was right. Her husband was so dull, and that was why she was forced to marry him. Finally, she convinced him to try something out of the ordinary, and he felt so guilty afterward- despite it being horrible- that he had told his parents, and she was now married to him. It was pathetic. She felt pathetic; why could she never stop lashing out?
