How Could You
The tension exploded into action as Lucas and his pack rushed toward the fire, urgency propelling their strides. They are met with a nightmarish scene. Emily, their beloved, stood over Joe, a figure pinned on the ground, fury radiating from every sinew of her body. As they approached, Lucas’s blood ran cold at the sight; Emily had transformed into a massive red wolf-like creature, her glowing red eyes piercing through the snow. Snarls escaped her lips, exposing sharp canine teeth as she loomed over Joe — the man accused of unspeakable horrors.
“HOW COULD YOU?” Emily’s growl rumbled through the air, the sound resonating with raw power and uncontained fury that sent tremors through the gathered crowd. Fear gripped their hearts as Ms. Trish stumbled back a few feet, her eyes wide with shock, while Father John began pleading with Emily, urging her to calm down. “Don’t do anything hasty!” he cried, but his words fell on deaf ears. Tommy, overwhelmed by fear, sprinted away toward his cabin, leaving behind a trail of footprints in the snow, a stark reminder of the chaos unraveling before them. Sara collapsed to her knees, disbelief paralyzing her as she witnessed the transformation of her friend; the line between humanity and beast had blurred dangerously.
Lucas strode forward, a sense of urgency surging in his chest. “My love, what are you doing? What is going on here?” He clasped her shoulders, trying to anchor her to reality. Father John said “Sheriff Bullock” cutting through the mounting chaos; his voice laced with authority. “Lock Joe up! He raped and murdered Abigail!” The words hung heavy in the air, laden with accusation and grief. Gregory and Sheriff Bullock seized Joe, dragging him away, his protests drowned by the gravity of the situation.
As Emily furiously stood guard over Joe’s vulnerable form, Lucas continued to speak softly, urging her with the strength of their bond. “It is okay, you did well. We will manage this.” Lost in her rage, Emily barely recognized the wolf she had become, towering above Lucas. But the connection they shared pierced through her fury. As if awakening from a nightmare, she fell to her knees. Lucas enveloped her in his arms, soothing her as her form shifted back into that of a striking woman with tresses of blonde and reddish-brown. The moment she transformed, her fear and confusion mingled with relief.
“My love,” he murmured, cradling her trembling body close to his own, shielding her from the harsh world around them. Once she had calmed, the Governor’s voice boomed through the crowd, commanding silence as he spoke. “Everyone, please make your way to my cabin. We need to speak about what’s unfolding,” he said, glancing toward Ethan and Father John. “You two put the deer up and meet me inside.”
As Emily entered the Governor’s cabin with Lucas by her side, the air was thick with tension. The lunch bell rang, slicing through the silence, and Father John called for the townsfolk to gather. Each footstep echoed in the chilling quiet, as they knew a dark reckoning was upon them. Inside the cabin, the atmosphere was electric. As the townsfolk filled the room, they felt the weight of the day’s happenings. Emily positioned herself on the left side of Joe, who was on his knees with his hands tied behind his back and visibly shaken. Sheriff Bullock stood beside Joe, his hand gripping the man’s shoulder, preventing any chance of escape.
“We have returned with enough meat to sustain us through the winter,” the Governor declared, his voice firm as he captured the attention of everyone. But first, we hold a trial for the murder of Abigail,” but the moment he mentioned Joe, a hushed anticipation enveloped the room. “She was an innocent child, full of life. Who here condemns him?” he asked, gazing around the room. “I DO!” Emily shouted, her voice resounding with unyielding determination. The Governor nodded, signaling for her to speak.
Emily stepped forward, her heart pounding in her chest. She recounted her discovery of the townsfolk’s whispers, the desires of a man lost to darkness. She painted the picture of Abigail’s funeral, the way Joe lurked in the shadows, devouring the grief around him, and his true nature revealed when she caught him assaulting another woman. She pointed toward Amanda in the crowd. “He tried to assault her as well.”
The Governor turned his attention to Amanda, who nodded, confirming Emily’s claims. The room murmured, agitation surfacing, but it was Joe’s words that broke the disarray. “Damn you all, especially you Emily you’re a whore!” he spat at Emily with venom.
The Governor’s voice silenced the chaos once more. “Chain him. The beasts will take his head tonight.” Emily's stomach churned with a mixture of anger and fear as they led Joe to the log. He was stripped and shackled as townsfolk followed closely behind, an audience to a fate that had been sealed by his malevolence.
…. “Whore! You are a whore! And your baby is a bastard” Joe screamed at Emily, rage pouring out of him like vitriol.
Her rage quickly reached a boiling point. The fury coursed through her veins, igniting something primal within her as she transformed—again. The sight was nothing short of terrifying. She expanded, muscles flexing as her human form twisted into the six-foot-five-inch wolf-like beast once more, tearing her clothing, and her breasts flopping as she surged forward. The air vibrated with her howls; a sound so fierce it echoed through the barren trees surrounding the clearing.
Veins glistened with the chill in the air, her heart pounding fiercely amidst the chaos. Joe’s eyes widened as he looked up at his doom, her massive form casting a shadow over him. As the grey wolves emerged from the tree line, hungry and intrigued, she leaned down, a movement swift and lethal. With one bite, she gripped Joe’s head, feeling the resistance of bone give way with grotesque ease. In a sickening motion, she ripped it free, launching it aside as the howls of the grey wolves surged in approval, harmonizing with the primal sounds of the forest.
Emily recoiled in horror, the gravity of her actions crashing down around her. She transformed back into her human form, naked and vulnerable, her body stained with the blood of her tormentor. Tears streamed down her face as the reality of her monster-like prowess settled in. Lucas rushed to her side, instinctively wrapping his coat around her trembling shoulders, his heart aching for the woman he loved. “What have I done?” she cried, her sobs cracking the stillness, reverberating in the icy air.
“What you had to,” Lucas whispered, holding her close. That night the grey wolves feasted on Joe’s dismembered body, the blood did not just spill into the ground; it spilled into the very roots of their lives, locking them in an eternal dance with the haunting past. The night thickened, shadows stretching into the unknown, but together, they would confront the lingering specters of fear, uncertainty— and a bloody legacy that echoed under the snow.
