Chapter One Hundred Two
***Scorpius***
I open my eyes slowly, blinking at the sunlight streaming in through the window. I try to stretch when I feel a slight weight on my arm. Looking down, I see Faye, still sleeping peacefully, curled up into my side. I smile and wrap my arms around her, giving her a kiss on the head before burying my face in her hair and taking in her scent. It’s got to be at least afternoon now from how bright the sun is. The others must have let us sleep in since it was my recovery day. But now I need to get up and get things done. I have a few packs I need to look into. Either their ways need to be changed, or we need to take action. It’s actually a few of the packs that were associated with both Kautious and Faye’s old packs, which means it’s most likely trouble in some way, shape or form. I wake Faye because we need to eat breakfast and get on with our day. She groans and lets out a huff. I smile at her, kissing her cheek gently as I rub her rounding belly that’s getting bigger by the day. I lean down and give it a gentle kiss, causing her to suck in a breath and slowly open her eyes. She rubs her eyes before mumbling, “What time is it?” I glance at the clock on the side table, “Hmm… Looks like it’s 1:32. I think they let us sleep in so I could rest off my last day of rut. You also need to rest with the pup. It’s getting big fast. I can’t wait until we find out what it is! I love them so much already.” She smiles at me as I continue to rub her stomach. After a while, I lean down and kiss her cheek, “Okay, I have some stuff to do, but we need breakfast first. Then maybe you can work on your nesting room.” She nods and slowly slides out of bed, going to the bathroom to do her business while I get dressed in the room.
We head down for breakfast, eating a quick meal of bacon, eggs, and fruit. When we are done, Faye gives me a kiss and does the dishes before heading to work in her nesting room. I make my way to Hadrian’s office. Over by the window nook is a small filing cabinet. I wave to Hadrian when I enter and head straight to that filing cabinet, getting out the files I need and sitting on the comfy window nook that Hadrian has named my ‘unofficial office.’ The files I took out are of 3 packs that are linked to both Kautious and Faye’s old packs. One of them seems as if they were just following them in order to survive, I’ll have to look into it more and figure out their actual beliefs and if they will be a threat. The other 2, however, are more in the belief system that omegas are useless and they seem power hungry. I opened the first file on a pack called the Flaming Pack. They are located closer to Kautious’ pack location-wise. Actually just 45 minutes outside of their old pack location. Their alpha is one of those people who believes he deserves to have all the omegas to himself. They are treated as though they are maids and not allowed to mate with anyone except the pack alpha. He has a mate, who is his Luna, but he doesn’t seem to care that he’s hurting his mate by sleeping with everyone else because ‘it’s their duty to the alpha to sleep with him, mated or not.’ That’s just disgusting behavior. I don’t understand how someone could feel so entitled. Don’t they know that mates are a gift given to us by the moon goddess herself! I set that file aside and opened the next. The Bird Pack is the name. They live in Oregon and were closely associated with Faye’s old pack. Their alpha is despicable and deserves to die. He’s known for killing omegas who want to find their mate or won’t submit to him.
I can’t help the growl that leaves my throat at all the omegas that are in distress or danger in these types of situations! Out of the corner of my eye, I can see Hadrian glancing at me with a raised brow. I sigh and lower the file into my lap before speaking, “These alphas are disgusting. Like, absolutely horrible Hadrian! They are what’s wrong with the world! How have they even survived this long?!” Hadrian sits back, his fingers tapping on the desk as he thinks. He bites his lip, then turns to me, “It sounds like these are some of the people that are part of the problems in the world, but I think we need a little more information on the packs, such as is it just the leaders that suck or are all the other alphas in league with them? Does the majority of the pack want to leave? Ya know, stuff like that. So what do you suggest we do from here?” I let out a loud huff before turning back to the files, “I suggest we send out scouts like Rollie and Jack under the pretense of business with the packs and them traveling as rogues. Maybe we can make a list of what information we need gathered and they can get whatever info they can.” He nods, pulling out a piece of paper, “We can do that. What do they need to find out?” I tap my chin, “We need to find out if all the alphas think the same. We also need to find out how many people would get out if they could. Would we have an inside source to correspond with in order to plan an attack, or are we on our own? These were some of the questions you mentioned. I think we should also find out if the omegas are being mistreated to a horrible extent like Kautious and Faye were. We know both alphas are absolutely horrible and deserve death, especially because they abuse omegas to the highest extent. If possible, I’d like to make an example of them.”
Hadrian now gives me a curious look, “What do you mean by making an example of them?” I sigh, “Hadrian, we have different ways to get the word out. The internet exists and not just letters. We can easily take their pictures and share their stories with the other packs. We can make people understand what they did wrong. We can tell people that if the world continues like this, we will crash and burn. We can let people know if they feel unsafe, they can contact us for help, and we will look into their case. Something like that.” Hadrian nods, thinking about it, “I think if we try to make it that big of a thing by exposing them and offering help, the cruel ones will strike fear into their packs enough that they don’t reach out, and then they’d possibly be in more danger. Maybe we can make some kind of card with a contact number and email and give it to everyone we get out, and if they come across someone who needs it, it’s there.” I nod, “You’re right. That might be smarter in the long run. I just wish we didn’t have to worry about putting people back in danger by making an example of these assholes.” Hadrian chuckles a bit, “I completely agree with you, but we also need to save as many as we can. Rollie and Jack can help people on their travels or get info, and we help them. Mom travels for her midwife stuff so she can talk to people, too. We’ll get the word out and help as many people as we can love.” We are startled from our conversation when Faye knocks on the door, a sheepish smile on her face with one of her hands on her belly.
