Chapter 390

Chapter 390
Ethan was momentarily speechless at her innocent question. He cleared his throat, loosening his embrace slightly, and a crooked smile appeared on his lips.
“It's your fault, Mrs. Legrand.”
“Mine?”
“Yes.” He rubbed his nose against her neck. “Let's just say that sleeping next to you and not being able to touch you required... drastic measures. A cold shower was the only solution to cool down the system.”
Lilian's face flushed instantly as she realized the insinuation.
“I'm sorry, Ethan...” she murmured, embarrassed. “Last night I was exhausted from the argument with Josh and...”
“Shh... It's okay, honey. I understand.” He kissed her forehead, amused by her embarrassment. “But you owe me one.”
Lilian smiled, hiding her face in his chest.
“Oh, yes. I have to go to the hospital this morning to see Josh,” she said, changing the subject and mentally organizing her day. “Then I'll take Gabriela to the airport. She's going back to New York today.”
Despite the family chaos, Lilian couldn't let her friend down.
“I'll go with you to the hospital,” Ethan announced, surprising her.
Lilian sat up in bed with a start, looking at him suspiciously.
“You want to meet my brother? Really?”
Her mind began to create catastrophic scenarios. “Does he want revenge? If he finds out that Josh tried to hit me, he'll turn off his machines himself.”
“Why the shocked look?” Ethan sat down too, facing her. “Don't you want to introduce me to your dear older brother?”
“Well... I won't stop you. But I'm surprised.” Lilian smiled awkwardly. “Promise you'll behave?”
“Don't worry, sweetheart.” Ethan caressed her hand, reading her thoughts like an open book. “I promise I won't hit him. From Charlie's report, he's already suffered enough at your hands.”
“Thank you.” She sighed with relief. “So, will you drop me off at the hospital before you go to the office?”
“Not exactly.” Ethan intertwined his fingers with hers, his expression becoming more serious and tender. “I want to take you there to see a doctor.”
Lilian frowned, confused. She touched her forehead and neck.
“A doctor? Why? My fever's gone, Ethan. I feel great. I think I'm healthy.”
He chuckled softly, shaking his head. Her innocence was adorable, but it was time for the truth.
“We're going to see Carlos, yes. But he's not the main reason.” Ethan took a deep breath, fixing his intense blue gaze on her eyes.
“Lilian... do you remember when you last had your period?”
Lilian blinked, perplexed by the sudden, intimate question.
“My... what?”
She began to do the math in her head.
“Five days ago? No... Seven? Wait...”
Her forehead furrowed.
“Ten days. It should have come ten days ago.”
“Oh my God...” she whispered, her hand instinctively going to her belly. “Why hasn't it come yet?”
“How many days late are you, honey?” Ethan asked, trying to stay calm, even though his heart was exploding with anticipation.
“Ten days.” Lilian looked at him, frightened. “Ethan, that's strange. I'm never this late. Could it be stress? Could I be sick?”
“No, Lilian.” Ethan smiled, a radiant, emotional smile. “It's not stress. It's because you're pregnant.”
The world stopped.
“WHAT?!” Lilian covered her mouth with her hands, her eyes wide in utter shock. “Pregnant?”
She searched his face for any sign of a joke, remembering the failed and painful attempts of the past.
“Yes, my love.” Ethan pulled her into a tight embrace, burying his face in her hair.
“Yesterday's blood test confirmed it. You're pregnant.”
Lilian stood still for a second. Then her body began to shake.
Ethan pulled away slightly, concerned.
“Hey... honey, why are you crying?” He wiped the tears streaming down her face with his thumbs. “You should be happy...”
“Ethan...” Lilian's voice faltered, choked with a mixture of fear and overwhelming hope. “You're not joking with me, are you? Please tell me it's true. Tell me it's not a dream.”
“I'm not joking, Lilian.” Ethan rested his forehead against hers, closing his eyes to share the moment. “It's real. We're having another baby.”Lilian couldn't respond. A sob escaped her throat, loud and liberating. Joy exploded in her chest, washing away all doubts. She clung to him, crying with happiness, finally allowing herself to believe in the miracle.Ethan's heart tightened when he saw the expression of contained panic on his wife's face.He knew exactly what she was thinking. Memories of past pregnancies, lonely losses, and fear haunted her. And guilt gnawed at him because he hadn't been there to hold her hand when she needed it most. But this time would be different.Noticing that she was a little calmer, they walked down the hallway to the familiar door. Carlos, who was in front, opened it.“Good morning, Dr. Robinson. The VIP patients I told you about have arrived,” Carlos announced, stepping aside. The doctor, an elegant middle-aged woman, stood up with a professional smile. However, her smile froze and her eyes widened in utter shock when she saw who was coming in.“My God... Ethan? Lilian?” Dr. Kelsey Robinson was stunned. “Is it really you?”She had been Lilian's obstetrician years ago, until the appointments stopped abruptly with the rumors of divorce. Seeing them together again, holding hands, was surreal.“Hello, Aunt Kelsey.” Ethan greeted her with a polite but firm smile, squeezing Lilian's hand for reassurance. “Thank you for seeing us on such short notice.”“Come in, please. Have a seat.” Kelsey regained her composure, gesturing to the chairs. “Lilian, dear, it's wonderful to see you. You look radiant.”“It's good to see you too, Dr. Kelsey,” Lilian replied, feeling genuine relief. Being attended to by someone she trusted reduced half her nervousness.Kelsey looked from one to the other, professional and personal curiosity getting the better of her.“Ethan, sorry for the direct question, but I need to update the file... Did you two remarry? I heard that...”Lilian looked down, awkwardly, but Ethan didn't hesitate.“We are husband and wife, Aunt Kelsey. We never stopped being so.” His voice left no room for doubt. “And don't listen to rumors. We're here for a much more important reason.”“Important?”“We came to check on my wife's pregnancy.”Kelsey's jaw dropped again.
