Chapter 31

Andrew had made up his mind after debating whether he should go meet Christiana. He smiled with relief as he parked his car in the lot of Christiana's company. Yesterday was the best day in five years. He missed her scent and how warm and safe he felt while hugging her. Her lips ... he missed them so much that he couldn't get rid of the taste.

When he reached the receptionist's office and asked for directions, he made his way to Mr. Holt's office. Christiana's boss was shocked to see him as they had no meeting today.

He cleared his throat and greeted him. "Good morning, Mr. Power, I'm surprised by your presence, do you perhaps need something from me?" Mr. Holt asked.

"Good morning Mr. Holt." Andrew replied.

"I do not really need anything from you. I came because I wanted to get the project started by the end of this week," Andrew tells him gently, taking a seat.

"That's fine, but we've got an issue," Mr. Holt tells him, trying not to stutter.

Andrew raised his brow in confusion. "And what is that?" He asked, patiently waiting for Mr. Holt reply.

"Christiana will no longer be in charge of the project as she has been transferred back to Trinidad and Tobago." He lies.

Andrew was shocked, transferred?

"And when was this decided," he asked, slightly irritated and sad.

"Just this morning." Mr. Holt said.

"Why the sudden transfer?" Andrew asked.

It made no sense to. Just yesterday she was in charge and all of a sudden, she's leaving. He knew something was wrong, but he couldn't tell what. There was no way he'd let Christiana leave so easily after reuniting with her just yesterday.

"Mr. Holt, if it isn't Christiana, your company won't be in charge of the project anymore," Andrew spat. It was either her or her rather than deal with another company.

Mr. Holt was surprised by his outburst. He wasn't expecting Andrew to be so adamant.

Suddenly the door opened and a big man with dreads dressed in a two-piece suit with a walking stick on his hands marched in.

Mr. Holt was quick to greet the man. Andrew stood to his feet, shaking hands with the stranger as they exchanged pleasantries.

"It's been so long, Mr. Power," the big man spoke. He wasn't what you'd call fat, but he was large.

"Good morning Mr. Dark." Mr. Dark is the owner of the interior design company Christiana worked for. He'd been in charge of decorating almost every company by Power International Limited.

"Mr. Holt, do we have a problem here?" the man asked.

"I hope to get feedback from you by the end of today. If it goes my way, let the project begin tomorrow," Andrew spoke up again before he left.

Christiana was eating noodles with Drew when her phone rang. It was Mr. Holt. She picked up her phone and answered it.

"Good evening sir," she greeted.

"Good evening Christiana," Mr. Holt replied. He did not know how to break the news to her, but he knew he had to. The company comes first before her so she would have to do it or quit.

"Sir, is something wrong?" Christiana asked, noticing he wasn't saying anything.

"Ah, I'm sorry. I kind of spaced out,” he said.

"Christiana, Mr. Power came to the office today and..." He trailed off.

"And what sir?" She asked him inquisitively.

"I'm sorry to tell you this but he specifically requested you are in charge of the project or he calls it off with the company," he explained.

Christiana's heart sank after hearing that he couldn't help her. Mr. Power had specifically asked for her or the project would be cancelled. She knew he wouldn't let her go now that they have seen each other once again.

She heaved a deep sigh, "Okay sir. I've heard," She replied weakly before ending the call. Drew noticed his mother's facial expression, "Mom, is everything alright?" He asked her with concern, laced on his tone.

Christiana gave Drew a tight smile and she reassured him, "Everything is fine my darling. Mommy is fine." She replied.

She hoped everything would work out. It was going to be hard for her to keep seeing Andrew every day. The scariest part was that if Emerald finds out that she and Andrew met again, she'd come for her. She didn't want to run away again; she wanted her peace of mind with her darling son and father.

The doorbell rang, Drew asked his mother if he should open the door and Christiana gave a go ahead.

Drew walked up to the door, stretching his legs to reach the door handle before opening it.

Andrew was shocked to see a kid of about five or six years that looked just like him as soon as the door opened. He wiped his face with his handkerchief to see if he was dreaming. He stared at the boy once more, taking a closer look.

"Drew! Who's at the door?" Christiana called from behind.

Drew?! Andrew wondered. That was Christiana's voice no doubt and if she called this child who looked like him Drew ... there was a possibility that this child was his. No, Andrew was sure this child was his considering the age range. Christiana walked to the door, worried by the fact that Drew said nothing when she had called his name.

Andrew froze as he stared at the little boy who stared back at him. He was sure this was the address his private investigator gave to him. This was where Christiana resided.

She froze when she saw Andrew in front of the door. Drew was confused too. The man looked just like him but bigger. There were virtually no differences between Drew and Andrew other than their sizes.

"Andrew?" Christiana whispered.

"Who is he?" Andrew pointed to Drew who was looking at the both of them, confused. "Answer me," he whispered moving close to her.

She wasn't expecting this. How the hell did he find where she lived? "What are you doing here?" She demanded, folding her arms across her chest while ignoring his question.

"Is he ... my son?" he asked again, staring at Drew.

"Dad!" Drew shouted, shocking both Christiana and Andrew. Christiana began to weep.

Drew had always wanted to see his father. Every kid of his age always had their father beside their mother and with them. He asked his mother about his father the other day and her reply was he'd come soon but it wouldn't be so soon as his father wasn't in the country.

A smile formed on Drew's face, "Daddy you came!" He squealed.

"Mummy said you would come soon," he said and Andrew's chest clenched. He couldn't believe he had a son that he didn't know about.

Andrew walked up to Drew, picked him up, and kissed him on his forehead. "Daddy's here," he couldn't believe it. There was no question about it. Drew was his son.

"How old are you?" he asked Drew. Drew showed him five fingers.

"Why? Just why Christiana?" he asked. He was hurt. She'd kept such a big secret from him, and she didn't even try to contact him. The pain she inflicted on him doubled as he realized he had a son he didn't know of and he wouldn't have known if he had not come here, she would have kept him in the dark forever.

Why did she run away?! He could forgive everything else, but not this. Not the fact that she had his son. Was she going to keep running, keep him in the dark? Was she ever going to tell him that she had his child? Andrew's eyes showed anger, pain, and betrayal. Christiana began to feel guilty as she saw how much she'd hurt him.

"Why?!"
