Chapter 173

Chapter 173

Allie:

I had given Green a week to wake up on his own before I took Alpha Wallace up on his offer.

Fallon had refused at first, mainly because she believed in the power of medicine, not magic, but after some persuading, she had to admit that it might just work.

We had decided low-key was best. We put green in the back of one of the semis, acting as though it was a shipment of food.

I doubt the coven would attack, though.

Apparently, somebody left Jeremy in charge of disposing of Denver’s body. He had shipped off his head and sent it to the Coven. Our sources told us that it had resulted in a bit of fallout. Some packs deserting the cause for fear of Greens' power in combat.

The thought made me smile, even for a short moment. I held his hand as the truck rumbled along the highway. No one knew that he was in a coma. Unable to wake up, severed from his wolf.  I thought of those bright green eyes that beckoned me. I wasn’t just Greens mate but also Fennick’s. The animal that lived inside Green. The twin souls that gave him his strength and his power.

They were separated right now, and we hoped that traveling to Wallace’s pack and placing Green in the moon pool could help them wake up.

I know that Green had warned me to stay away from Wallace, but I didn’t care what it took to wake him up. He was like this because he was protecting me. I didn’t care if I had to pour my blood out. I was waking him up.

“We should be there by sunset,” Wallace informed me.

“Whoopee,” Jeremy sneered.

He didn’t trust Wallace. He didn’t trust anybody, but he watched the other alpha like a hawk. Keeping me far out of his reach and making sure he didn’t pull any tricks with Green while he was vulnerable.

“I still think this is a stupid idea,” he declared more to me than anybody else.

“Yes, you’ve stated that a million times, but unless you have a better idea, it’s what we’re going with,” Mya sniped at her brother for his outburst.

“You might be doing this just to get to her,” he accused Wallace while pointing a finger at me.

“I am only doing what I can to help the fated pairing. I would never question the goddess’s choice,” he bristled at the suggestion.

Jeremy left it at that, and we finished the long car ride in silence. The truck opened up, and we wheeled Green out of it. Lowering him safely to the ground.

“The moon will be full tonight, the best time to place him in the pool,” Wallace assured us.

I held Green's limp hand as Wallace guided us into his pack house. Pictures of the goddess hung on every wall, with religious symbols and statues in every corner. The term cult flashed in my head, and I wondered if I hadn’t made a mistake.

He helped us into an empty room and excused himself while we waited for the moon to rise. No one said anything as we sat there waiting until we could try to bring Green back.

I could only hope my foolish plan would work. I don’t know if I could live like this, having him near and not being able to hear his voice, feel his touch, but not have him touch me. It was a sick twist. We had won, but it was hollow.

Cooper returned and called us out of the room. They pushed the bed towards a glittering lake that reflected the light of the moon like a million diamonds. The sparkling reflections almost glowing.

My heart beat like a racehorse in my chest. Every thump, a prayer to the goddess to wake him up.

Bring him back to me.

I begged for her to listen to me. To help him wake up. I hadn’t believed in her when I first met Green, but looking out at those rippling reflections after surviving what we had. I was certain she existed.

Dozens of people stood at the shore of the lake holding lanterns and watching us. I didn’t acknowledge them instead, I was focused on Green. Jeremy and Blue helped unload him from the bed, following some elders who sat in the water, beckoning for him.

“They’ll place him in the water, and hopefully the goddess will shine her light on him,” Cooper explained to me.

I didn’t quite know what he meant, but I followed them as they waded into the cool waters. I watched his breathing as they went further into the lake.

“Come on, work, work,” I muttered to myself, my hands clamped together in front of my chest.

The elder started chanting something, and I closed my eyes, praying to the goddess in earnest to help him.

Please. Please. Please.

I didn’t have anything to offer her in return. I didn’t even know what to offer a moon goddess, but I would trade my life for his if it meant he would just open his eyes.

Isn’t this what she wanted? We were together. We had defeated Denver. I had used my dreams to protect my mate just like the legend said. All she had to do was wake him up, we could take on the Coven. They were nothing compared to the beating we had taken.

Please. Please. Please.

I kept my eyes shut tight, my hands clapsed in prayer as I focused all my energy on him. I couldn’t live without him. I couldn’t go back to life knowing what I could be like. He wasn’t just some magical being because he was a werewolf. He made the world magic because he had loved me. I hadn’t known what life could be like, what happiness, true happiness, was like until him.

If he stayed like this, I’d waste away alongside him, unable to bear a distance like this. I wouldn’t let go of him, and I wouldn’t give up until he woke up. This is what mate bonds were all about, right? Like Felicity had said, it was the greatest vow you could make. All-consuming devotion and loyalty. Well, this was mine. I’d stay here a month if it meant he’d wake the fuck up.

Please. Please. Please.

Still, nothing came. Nothing happened. I sat there, water up to my waist, unflinching in the cold night air. I would not give up. He had to wake up, he just had to.

Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please.

With every breath I took, I begged the goddess to return him to me.

Please. Please. Ple-

“Allie,”

I opened my eyes. My mouth hung open as a gasp escaped my lips. He stood drenched in front of me, with wet hair clinging to his face, but it was him. Eyes open, smiling.

“Thank you! Thank you!” I rushed forward, jumping into his arms. “Thank you!” I mumbled into his shirt, gripping him.

He leaned down, placing a kiss on my lips, and I was finally saved.

Thank you.
