Chapter 165

Chapter 165
Green:

“STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME!” the teen roared as he stomped out of the pack house.

His eyes were a bright amber color. He was losing control, and I wasn’t about to let him go on a rampage in my keep. He broke out into a run, and he must have realized how close he was to losing his control, or he really wanted to get away from me.

Neither of which was going to happen, I didn’t run to follow him, but I kept him in my eyes as he bolted into the tree line.

I slowly followed after him, shifting into my own wolf and chasing him down. He was fast only because he was young, completely untamed. He thought this was some form of superpower, but in reality, it made him an easy target.

I could see the pride in his eyes as he nipped and snapped at me, as I did my best to catch up. His arrogance would be his downfall, though, as he wasn’t watching where he was going.

Skidding and shifting to avoid a tree, I landed on top of him, pinning him to the ground. He snarled and bit at me. I let out a low, menacing growl, reminding him who I was. He had no shot in hell of beating me in a fight. Wolf form or human.

I slowly backed off from him and moved my head for him to follow me. He did, and we ran through the forest. We jumped easily over the wall and into the wild where the game was.

We caught a scent, and he followed after me, happy to sink his teeth into something. The little buck didn’t see it coming. Zach and his wolf moved too quickly. He only realized they were there until they were already on top of him.

Though I was hungry, I stayed put, letting him have his meal to himself. He came back to me, showing his fangs, peacocking like he was some big bad wolf.

I let out a huff and followed after him as we made our way back to pack lands. We shifted back as we made our way to the South Gate.

“You can’t lose control like that again,” I warned him.

“Oh shut up, I got to safety all right! Can you crawl out of my ass for like two minutes?” He snapped again.

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t you realize what I’m doing by now? Come on, you’ve gotta be smarter than this. Did your dad ever let you in on any meetings? Did your dad ever teach you how to fight? No, you know how I know because you’re clueless,” I poked a finger into his chest.

“You don’t know a thing about my da-“

“I know he’s a coward! I know he’s a poor excuse of an alpha! I know you know you’re learning more from me, and it kills you,” I retorted, and the kid turned redder with every word I spat at him.

He still had a little steam to blow off. I’d much rather he let it out here than in front of the whole pack.

“Screw! You!” He growled, cranking an arm back and hitting me in the face. My head twisted to the side as the blow landed, but it didn’t hurt.

“You feel better?” I queried nonchalantly.

He huffed and puffed for a moment before stomping off again. “Whatever,” he hollered back at me.

I rolled my eyes again at his antics. He clearly did feel better, but he would never admit I was right.

I let him go off to the gym, figuring he’d take the rest of his anger out on the weights and the punching bag.

Allie came over to me, Kayden trailing behind her, until he spotted Zach going for the gym, he made his excuse and ran after his brother.

“Did he hit you?” She gasped, coming over and tilting my head up. He must have actually left a mark.

“Don’t worry, I talked him into it. He needed to get his anger out somewhere, and I didn’t want him taking it out on some innocent bystander,” I grabbed her hands.

“So you made him hit you?” She stumped, looking at me like I was a moron. Allie still didn’t quite grasp the more physical nature of the wolf culture. We were primal beings. Born of pure emotion and pure power, Zach didn’t know how to control that yet, so if it meant being his human punching bag, I’d do it.

“Are you alright?” I asked, realizing all my attention had been on her brothers.

“As all right as I can be,” she shrugged.

It was the best non-answer she could come up with. She had to be fine because her brothers weren’t because she had to take care of everything. I grabbed her hand and started heading back towards the trees.

“Come on,” I urged her. She stayed rooted for a second she eventually followed me.

We went back under the canopy that she had found so beautiful the other day back amongst the trees in the quiet where no one could find us.

“You don’t have to be all right. I know you're angry with him, and you have every right to be, but he’s also your dad, too,” I pushed her.

She looked to the side, her lip trembling, and I pulled her against me as she let out the sobs she had been swallowing since she saw the proof of her father’s torture.

“I just feel so bad,” she cried. “ I don’t want him in my life, but that doesn’t mean I want him to suffer. I can’t even imagine what they’re doing to him,”

I patted her head and hushed her, rubbing her back.

“Why did he leave? Why?” She wailed. “ I don’t understand how he could be so foolish. Look at where it's led him, and my brothers-“ her voice fell off in a cracked, strangled sob.

“Let it out, your brothers are taking their issues out in the gym where they need to be. Don’t worry about them right now, just let it out,”

I held her to my chest as her tears ran into my shirt, making it cling to me. We leaned against a tree as she cried for the man who abandoned her. She had a far larger heart than I did, all this did was make me hate that man even more. After everything, she still cared for him, and he had tossed it into the wind.

After she let all her tears fall, she pulled away, rubbing her red eyes. I brushed her hair out of her face, waiting for her to tell me she was alright. Eventually, she gave me a small nod, and we headed back to the rest of the world. I told myself that I had to do this more often, take her away from the moment, and give her a chance to let it all out. She was on display, holding it together for everyone, she needed to be able to feel things on her own. So if that meant going for a walk and letting her cry, I’d do that.
