Chapter 189 Hello, Mrs. Reynolds
Chapter 189 Hello, Mrs. Reynolds
Jane's POV
A month later on the weekend, the sunlight was exceptionally generous, bathing the white steeple of the small suburban chapel in warm gold.
I stood before the mirror in the dressing room, my fingertips gently brushing over the lace hem of my wedding dress—not an elaborate train style, but it made me look soft and gentle. A small pearl brooch was pinned at the neckline, something David had secretly placed by my pillow a few days ago, saying it was "like the light in your eyes."
"Nervous?" Ava came up behind me in her soft pink bridesmaid dress, adjusting my veil with careful fingers, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Yesterday during rehearsal with Richard, he was so nervous he forgot his lines completely."
I looked at myself in the mirror, unable to suppress a smile that seemed to light up my entire face. "A little, but mostly just happy. I keep thinking this might all be a dream."
"Trust me, it's very real," Ava laughed, smoothing down a wayward curl. "And you look absolutely radiant."
Just as I finished speaking, there was a gentle knock at the door. Emma walked in carrying a bouquet of white lisianthus, the petals still dotted with morning dew, fresh and elegant.
"Jane, David asked me to bring you these. He said, 'Let the flowers keep you company for now, I'll be there to get you soon.'" Her voice wavered slightly as she spoke.
I took the bouquet, the delicate fragrance filling my senses, my heart trembling with warmth.
Emma's eyes grew misty as she looked at me, her voice soft with emotion. "You've been through so much to get here, Jane. All those lonely nights, all that pain..." She reached out to gently squeeze my hand. "But look at you now—you're absolutely glowing with happiness."
Ava added softly, her own eyes glistening. "This is exactly how it should be."
Thinking back to the flustered surprise of getting our marriage license at City Hall a month ago, then looking at the familiar smiling faces around me now, I suddenly realized that happiness was never about grand spectacles, but these small, genuine moments of companionship and love.
When the chapel doors slowly opened, I walked arm-in-arm with Jacob, step by step down the aisle. He'd specially worn a dark suit today, his hair neatly combed and his posture proud.
Though his steps were still somewhat slow, he walked with particular steadiness and dignity. "You look absolutely beautiful today," he said softly, his voice catching slightly with emotion. "Luke and Sarah would be so incredibly proud if they could see this moment."
My eyes welled up as I nodded gently, squeezing his arm. "Thank you for being here, Jacob. Having you walk me down this aisle... it makes it feel like family is all around me, like they're here in spirit."
"They are," he whispered back, patting my hand reassuringly.
At the end of the red carpet ahead, David stood waiting, wearing a crisp charcoal suit that made his eyes look even more striking. His gaze was locked on me with the tenderness of an entire spring hidden in his expression.
Sunlight streamed through the chapel's stained glass windows, casting jeweled colors across his face and making even his hair shimmer like gold.
When he saw me approaching, the smile at the corners of his mouth could no longer be contained, spreading across his features as his eyes grew visibly misty.
The ceremony was simple and intimate, without too many complicated procedures, yet every single step was filled with profound meaning.
Richard, as best man, held the ring box with hands so nervous they were actually trembling, but he still earnestly spoke his words of blessing with genuine warmth.
Ava stood beside me as my maid of honor, occasionally dabbing at her eyes with a delicate handkerchief while trying to maintain her composure.
Emma sat in the front row, holding her camera but openly crying happy tears that she didn't even try to hide. Jacob sat in the center, watching us exchange rings with a smile as gentle and warm as summer sunshine.
During the vow exchange, David held my hands in both of his, his voice especially earnest and clear. "Jane, I used to think happiness was some unreachable destination, a place I'd never find, until I met you and realized that happiness is the gentleness of waking you up in the morning, the comfort of your laugh, the embrace when you're sad, the determination to walk through any storm together with you. For all the days ahead, through every season of our lives, I'll always be by your side, protecting you, cherishing you, making sure you're as happy as you are today, every single day."
Looking at the raw sincerity in his eyes, the love that seemed to pour out of every word, I couldn't hold back my tears anymore, but I smiled through them as I said, "David, thank you for coming into my life like unexpected sunshine, for pulling me out of my lonely past, for showing me that I could have so much love, so much joy. Whether it's sunny or rainy days ahead, whether we're laughing or crying, I'll be with you, making our little life together warm and full of all the love we can hold."
"You may kiss the bride," the officiant announced with a warm smile.
David cupped my face gently, his thumb brushing away a tear. "Hello, Mrs. Reynolds," he whispered, before kissing me softly as our small congregation erupted in cheers and applause.
After the ceremony, we took photos in the chapel's small garden, surrounded by blooming roses and the golden afternoon light. Jacob took both our hands in his weathered ones, grinning like a delighted child. "Come back and visit often, you two. Bring Jane around for Sunday dinners. I'm still waiting to make you my famous tacos and hear about all the adventures in your married life."
"We wouldn't miss it," David promised, his arm secure around my waist.
Richard held up his camera, calling out "Look here, you beautiful people!" while Ava and Emma came over, linking arms with me on either side, chattering excitedly about honeymoon plans and future girls' trips we'd take together.
The sunlight bathed us all in its warm embrace, every face glowing with genuine smiles and laughter. There weren't many people present, but the air was absolutely overflowing with love, warmth, and the promise of beautiful tomorrows.
