Chapter 49: The shrink

.

Amelia was stunned by his last statement but decided not to give too much thought to it. Yet, her mind didn't allow her to forget it. It kept going back to the words.

" What if I do?"

That would be a dream come true, that finally someone had found her worthy to be his. From the first days she set her eyes on him, she had a feeling that he was a good person but today made it evident. While his wife was busy showing off her screaming skills, he was calm all the while. This was the character she wanted in her spouse, not Bill, a man who always shouts at her because she was on his bankroll.

It wasn't her fault though, he sent her to school therefore he thought that he had a right over her. When she tried to revolt, he cut off all her connections with the modeling industry. That was why she was penniless and without a job, it wasn't until after she gave him a stern warning that he decided to put her on a payment plan.

This was why she'd never accept any offer anymore. All she wanted was to live a quiet life and get married to a loving spouse that would make her forget all her sorrows completely.

She was glad to put a smile on his face.

The doorbell dinged and two huge men walked in. Today might just be her lucky day. " Good afternoon, how May I be of help to you?" She replied cheerfully.

They inspected the art store and she maintained her smile which was about to slip off.

" Good afternoon, sirs. What would you like to get?" She repeated, she had learnt not to judge people too harshly. They could be deaf and dumb.

The men turned towards her immediately and she felt a bit intimidated, these weren't Bill's men. She knew all of them. " May I take you round the store to see what you might be interested in?" She offered, hoping that they'd answer this time. She was getting scared by their morose looks, she was alone with two men who could overpower her without stress.

"There's no need, love." One of them said he was blond. " Uhm, where's the owner of this store?"

" He's not on seat."

The blond man stared at his fellow, " Oh,that's a shame. We brought a gift for him. He's our very good friend." He flashed a smile and brought out a small box from his pocket.

It looked very expensive and she stared at them, she didn't believe that they were friends. No friend would stare at the walls with such anger. But she smiled at them.

" Okay, thank you sir. I'll give it to him when he returns. Who should I say it's from sir?" She inquired.

" He'll know when he sees it. Don't worry about it." He said and they walked out of the reception.

" Wow, this is impressive." She dropped it inside the drawer and set a reminder on her phone for when he returns.

Meanwhile, Lacey had been waiting for Mark for ten minutes and was already fuming. She was in the therapist's office and was tapping her leg. Didn't he know that they were going to pay extra if they missed the stipulated hour of appointment?

If she complained again, he might complain about her nagging when he was the one who was hell-bent on frustrating her.

Mark entered the office a bit sweaty. He was rushing to get here. " Sorry, we are late." He apologized to the therapist, he ignored his wife's ugly stare. " I was caught up in traffic."

Lacey hummed but kept her cool. She had passed through the same route, yet there was no traffic and here he was lying through his teeth. She was going to deal with him when they hit home. She had a reputation to protect.

"It's nice to see you again," The therapist smiled at them but Lacey's countenance remained angry. " I can see improvement from the first day you came." She said and nodded while jotting something down.

Lacey's brows jumped as she stared at the professional before her. " What improvement?" She asked because she didn't see one.

The therapist merely smiled, Mark had stepped up his game as a man and Lacey was not quick to attack him this time and that told her that their relationship was improving whether or not she liked it.

"So, where are we in the relationship?"She asked. They stared at her in confusion and she rephrased her question. "I mean what have you been up to recently?"

"We've not been up to anything." Lacey said as she stared at the woman who was busy watching them like a hawk.

" Mr. Mark?"

" I can't say for now. I know that I've been trying to improve my business. I think we are getting better at making sure that my quality of life has improved." He replied and the therapist nodded slowly.

" That's great to hear from Mr. Mark. Mrs. Lacey?"

" I have always been working to improve my life. It's a great thing that he's trying to catch you, don't you think?" She replied in a sour tone and they stared at her.

" I guess, what can we say, we can only hope that everything goes on as planned." The therapist replied softly. A long silence ensued between them and they stared at her wondering why she was not talking.

Lacey grew pissed at the silence, her mouth itched to speak but she kept her cool. She was expecting to be asked various questions. " Are we going to stay here all day?" She inquired rudely and the woman smiled.

" If you want. I can see that you are edgy, may I ask why?" She responded in a gentle voice.

Lacey stared at her for a minute and looked towards Mark. " If I had known that I was going to be brought here to stare at the walls, I wouldn't be here." She said and rose up.

" Lacey, sit." The therapist gave a soft command.
