Chapter 74 Fall of the Kingpin
Kael could see that beyond the jeering countenance and the thought of vengeance for his father, Flavio was afraid of him. Kael relaxes his stance, knowing that if he shows any motion of aggression, it will only encourage Flavio to hurt his doll even more. He just killed three of his men and only two left. It would be wise if he’ll appear to be in such a careless manner.
He moved in a less threatening manner by taking a few steps closer while simultaneously stuffing his hands into his pockets. He moved at a pace that was slow enough not to arouse any suspicion, despite the fact that every fiber of his being yearned to rush forward and strangle this cretin to death.
He stopped just a couple of arms’ lengths away from them, his eyes darting down on the fearful face staring at him beseechingly for a little period, and then he pinned his sight to the man who was holding her from behind.
“Flashing news, Satan fears me himself,” he said, moving another step forward. “Didn’t I say, get your hands off her?”
“You fancy her too much, king. That would be your downfall,” he scoffed. A lopsided grin appeared on Flavio’s lips in a snide. He looked down at Lilia, tightening his grip on her neck and she immediately whimpered, her mouth gasping desperately for air as he drew her back.
Kael curled his hands into a fist underneath his pockets, straining himself from taking rash action.
“You got it wrong, bastard. I am just merely taking my possession back. You know how I hate when someone takes what is mine. You should have known that.” He mentioned it in an icy tone.
Flavio removed the gun from Lilia’s head and turned to him. “You desperately want her back, huh?” He was dragging her backward until they were on the edge of the railings. His two remaining men started to prowl around him.
Kael studied their movements for a moment, calculating their distance away from him and predicting their attacks. They were easy to read. Their eyes moved too much and uncertainty was written all over their faces along with smugness. Kael could take them down easily even though one is a bit bigger than him. Size does not matter. He can outwit him swiftly, just that he was worried when Flavio hoisted Lilia into the railings.
“You can have her back if you were quick enough to take them down and save your damsel,” Flavio burst out into a burst of laughter like a mad man who had gone out from the asylum. He pulled Lilia closer to the edge, threatening to push her off from the railings. “If not, she’ll have the same fate just like Waldo.”
Waldo… Kael remained expressionless as he fixed his attention on Flavio. That must be the name of the man that jumped off the building. He wanted to cross the distance between him and Lilia, to have his arms wrapped around her securely and whispered things to her that she was safe. To hold her with tenderness and hopes that he could erase all the violence she had seen this day.
“Kael…” His name slips through Lilia’s lips in soft whispers of trepidation as her one foot slid over the edge at the same time the men hurled towards him to attack.
Kael immediately dodges, and kicked the larger man, sweeping his legs and tumbling him off balance all the while he was keeping his eye on Lilia just to ensure that Flavio hasn’t pushed her yet.
Another attack came from his left. A punch aimed to hit him in the head, but he avoided it and grip the arm of his attacker and twisted it until the elbow pops and the bone snapped. A loud reverberating scream of pain ricocheted into the air, but Kael paid no heed to him and deliver a full round kick into his jaw, finishing the man with a broken neck.
A sharp scream pierces and Kael instantly turns to see Flavio leaning Lilia towards the very edge. Her one foot dangled into the air while the other dangerously clung to the railings. Only Flavio’s grip was the only thing that saved her from the fall.
Kael gritted his teeth, and this time, a bleak emotion leaked on his hard façade. The sight distracted him from his current predicament and failed to notice the punch coming his way before it was too late and it hit him in the face.
His vision blackened for a moment, as his head was thrown sideways and he staggered to his feet. The larger man strode closer to him and was about to punch him again, but he was quick to recover and rolled to his back to avoid the blow, kicking the huge man on the back, sending him to stumble on his feet.
“Aha ha! You should have seen the look on your face Kael!”
Flavio let out an obnoxious laugh, certainly enjoying that his man was able to land a punch on him.
“Tsk,” Kael hissed, wiping the small drop of blood that trickled on his chin with his thumb, internally cursing and glaring sharply at Flavio. The wind blows harder, whipping Lilia’s hair harder at the back of her head while her eyes pointed at the sky as though she already had accepted her fate.
Kael’s opponent recovered and pivoted, set to attack him once again, but a gunshot blared into the air, and the huge man immediately dropped to the floor with a bullet hole on his forehead.
“Boss!” / “Lilia!”
Val emerged from the busted door. Behind him was Lilia’s personal maid—Aya, whose eyes immediately found her dangling on the edge of the railings.
“Say your goodbye now, Kael,” Flavio grinned, unlatching his grip on her.
However, Lilia instantly grasps his shirt at the last minute, tipping him off his balance and somehow the both of them fell.
“No!” Aya’s scream faded into the background as Kael’s chest thundered rapidly. Everything seemed to have slowed down, and even his feet became too heavy and he was not running fast enough to reach the edge.
“Lilia!”
