Moments

Moments

I was digging through the wardrobe when Lissa knocked once and pushed the door open without waiting. She stood there, took a glance around and settled her gaze on me me sifting through clothes like I was committing a crime.

“I’m trying to find something that decent,” I muttered without looking at her. “You don't have to watch me every second, I'm not going to try to jump down the window.”

“You killed Marcus, there's no doubt what you can do.”

I froze and shut my eyes, pushing down every thoughts and images threatened to pop back into my head.

“You didn't have to bring that up. It was a mistake.”

She scoffed. “A mistake is when you break a class, or set a house on fire it's not when you kill a man for whatever reasons.”

Okay, is she kidding me? Was that why she's sulking like a child for the past few days?

“For whatever reasons? I'm going to take a risk and assume that you have no idea what went down and somehow you forced yourself to believe I killed someone because I was trying to escape.” I trailed off. “You have no right to judge me or look at me like I'm a stain on your perfectly white dress, you're not the one who got kidnapped, raped, tortured, abused for reason you didn't know, you're not the one who got flew over to a new country, locked in a penthouse with a perverted security guard I suppose YOU hired! You're not the one who tried to get a fucking good night sleep only to be ambushed by a man twice your size and strength, threatening to have his way with you. I promised myself I'd never go through the same shit Dante put me through and Marcus wanted to try his luck.” I threw the dress I was holding onto the bed. “Whatever shit got you working for that monster is not the same thing I went through, you've never been in my shoes so don't for one second, try to judge.”

It's absurd how she looked at me. Suddenly everything I did annoyed her.

“You kill people on whims Lissa, for fun, on Dante's order and the one time I try to defend myself you look at me like I went on killing spree. If any one of us is a cold hearted murderer, it's you, not me. You of all people should know that, so don't dare judge me.”

If what I said pissed her off, I didn't know. Because for the first half minute I was trying to catch my breath and for the second half she had the same expression as the one before I said any word.

“You’re going to stand out no matter what,” she said instead, flatly. “Puck something darker, you're going to sn event, you're surely going to get wine spilled on you, so... something darker. Be fast about it he doesn’t like waiting.”

Right. Because being late for Dante Moretti was apparently a huge crime and only for people who wants to die early.

“Oh, fuck off.”

She nodded and walked out, slamming the door shut behind her. If that was to irritate me, it worked.

I returned to finding a better dress to match the lmoccation from the little informatoon I was given, there was no particular color code, but the men were expected to come in suits and tux and the women in dinner dresses.

I've watched loads of movies, soap operas so I know that when you get invited to an exclusive event, your attire should be within three colors: white, black or red. There is no outside the box. I held up a black dress after trials and errors of testing, it was either I looked like I was trying too hard or not trying at all. Not that it mattered. People like the ones we were going to notice everything anyway.

I ended up settling on a black dress that reached my knees, I wouldn't really call it a dinner dress as it was more like an office dress. But it was black and wouldn't drag attention to me and that was the point. I pulled my hair back into a low ponytail because it looked less messy that way, there was no stretching it even, I was in a prison, I was in a cage, and I believe they think giving me a mere comb would be a dangerous decision. I slipped on a pair of low heels that was brought me few hours ago afterwards.

When I opened the door to leave, Lissa was just outside going through her phone.
“I'm ready.”
She nodded and led the way out of the room and down the hallway. The guards were already waiting near the elevator. Not for us, obviously. For him. I stayed behind Lissa like she ordered and when the elevator opened, only she and I stepped in.

The moment we arrived downstairs, Lissa quickly called him to tell him we wouybe good first for whatever reason that was obviously unknown to me.

At this point I just let them do whatever they want.

The car waiting for us downstairs was different from the one we arrived with yesterday, so must've been changed to match the occasion. It was in white with tinted glass, a guard and a driver for both of us.

“Don’t touch anything,” Lissa murmured as she slid in next to me.

I ignored her no-use warning and crossed my legs to make myself comfortable then started out of the window, another moment to wish I was free, to daydream about what my life would've been if this hadn't happen, aother moment to familiarize myself with all the routes I can get my eyes on.

You never know, things like this always comes in handy.
