Chapter 40

Chapter 40

A commanding voice came through the receiver.

"I've already handled your son's situation. Stay out of Hillcrest's business and transfer all assets to me."

Hayes' expression shifted slightly, and he cautiously asked, "About my situation..."

"Didn't you get what I said?"

"Got it. I'll start arranging it right away."

After hanging up the phone, Hayes' face looked grim.

Just then, Tate's call came in.

It rang three times before Hayes answered.

"Mr. Campbell, you sure are busy."

"Mr. Mitchell, what can I do for you?"

"Got time tonight, Mr. Campbell? I've booked a room at the Cityscape Hotel. I'd appreciate it if you could join me."

Hayes stared at the phone, hardly believing the polite tone was coming from Tate.

"Sure, I can make it."

"Great, then tonight, don't be late."

Hayes hesitated for a moment, then picked up the desk phone and said in a deep voice, "Come in."

Soon, a woman wearing black stockings and red-bottomed high heels walked in, her voice respectful, "Mr. Campbell!"

"Notify all departments to pause their current work and transfer all assets."

Seeing the secretary frozen in place, Hayes barked, "What are you standing there for? Go!"

"Yes, Mr. Campbell!" The secretary hurried out.

While Hayes was busy, the detective squad was also having a tough time.

Eris sat in her office, ignoring everyone's objections and directly issued arrest orders.

Whether it was City Councilman Tate or Deputy Speaker Ewan, they were all on her arrest list.

The detective squad's police cars were all dispatched, and within half an hour, they had surrounded Tate and Ewan's residences.

Coincidentally, the two were together, saving Travis and his team a lot of trouble.

Travis watched Tate and Ewan, feeling a sense of awe at the power Eris wielded.

A city councilman and a deputy speaker, arrested just like that.

Unlike himself, who didn't even have the courage to make an arrest.

The entire operation took less than ten minutes.

Before the surrounding residents could react, Travis and his team had already left.

Travis, Tate, and Ewan sat in the back seat.

Tate's face was dark, "Travis, do you know what you're doing?"

"We're government officials. Have you considered the consequences of your actions?"

Travis glanced at their silver handcuffs, "Sorry, your cases have been transferred. I'm not in charge anymore, so these aren't my concerns."

"Any questions you have will be answered later. For now, save your energy."

When they arrived at the detective squad, Eris was already waiting in the interrogation room.

Tate and Ewan had lost their earlier arrogance.

Travis glanced at them and sneered, "What's wrong, gentlemen? Where's that confidence you had earlier?"

Hearing Travis' provocative words, Tate and Ewan didn't dare say a word.

It was all because of Eris.

Eris raised her hand slightly, and Travis wisely left the room.

He bumped into Elaine outside.

"What are you doing here?" Travis asked, puzzled.

Elaine glanced around and pulled Travis into a corner.

Without hesitation, she handed him a document, "Read this, and you'll understand."

Travis opened it, confused.

When he saw the contents, his face changed dramatically.

A look of disbelief crossed his face.

"Deep Vision Initiative!"

A secret national project from ten years ago. How did Elaine get this?

Travis carefully put the document away.

He returned to his office, locked the door, and then dared to open it and read the details.

Whether intentionally or not, Elaine had included a name that appeared no less than ten times—Blake Smith!

His father's name.

Travis' face darkened, his hands gripping the document tightly.

Elaine must have mistaken his identity. But what about Elaine's identity?

Travis looked out the window, his voice long and drawn out, "Who are you?"

His phone rang—it was a message from Elaine.

[Do you understand now?]

Travis didn't reply but called Elaine. When she answered, he asked in a deep voice, "Who are you?"

Elaine's voice was soft, "I'm Elaine. That's all you need to know."

"Deep Vision Initiative, what else do you know? What's your purpose in Hillcrest?"

Travis fired off his questions.

"To find the truth!" Elaine's voice was brief and firm.

Travis was taken aback. The truth?

He looked down at the document in his hand, the truth after all these years.

"Eris is here with ill intentions, and I've discovered that the Thompson family is deeply involved with the Deep Vision Initiative."

Travis' pupils contracted. 'If that's true, Eris' target isn't just Tate and Ewan.'

'It's the entire top management of Hillcrest's government.'

'But is this the federal government's intention or the Thompson family's?'

In the interrogation room.

Eris looked down at Tate and Ewan.

"You both have quite the sons."

"Dealing drugs."

Hearing the accusation, Tate and Ewan hurriedly said, "Ms. Thompson, there's a misunderstanding!"

"My son only has shares; he never participated in drug dealing. They didn't even know Ethan's café was involved."

"If they knew, my son wouldn't have invested."

"Exactly, Ms. Thompson, there must be some misunderstanding."

Eris glared at them and threw the evidence collected by Travis and his team in front of them.

"Look, do I need to say more? All the evidence is here."

Tate and Ewan fell silent.

Eris' voice was cold, "If you have objections, you can get a lawyer."

"Sign here."

Tate and Ewan were stunned, instinctively saying, "So soon?"

Eris glared at them, and they quickly shut up.

"Sign it. Save everyone the trouble. You're both prominent figures; why make it difficult?"

Being seasoned politicians, Tate and Ewan understood.

The Thompson family was giving them a chance. Signing meant a few years in prison, then they'd be out.

After signing, they slumped in their chairs.

With their signatures, their political careers were over.
