They didn't speak again after that. Doing such an outstanding job at ignoring each other. She didn't try again either. Preferring to keep to herself and remain quiet after whatever that was. However, there was one thing that stuck to her mind. What Wolf had said about Nicholas needing to find his mate so that he could become a god again. What did that even mean? Was that like a friend or something? And why would he need to find him? Had he disappeared or something?
Either way, she was willing to bet that he didn't even want to. She'd seen the way that he had reacted upon being questioned whether he could reverse his condition or not. He looked so angry. Miserable, even.
And it made her feel so sad. She would never admit it out loud but it pained her, the thought of him suffering. It tugged at the strings of her heart. It was safe to say that she had grown quite fond of his presence, after so much time spent around him. She...liked him. Again, she would never admit that out loud but she did. And she felt so....incredibly attracted to him, crazy personality aside. He was so inhumanly handsome. And muscly. And tall. And she happened to like so much the way that he held her in his arms. The way that he made her feel whenever he put his hands on her.
She could feel her cheeks heating up a little as she thought about all that, stealthily taking another peek up at the side of his face. His incredibly handsome face.
He was still looking up ahead, seemingly lost within his own thoughts.
"Why is your heart racing like that, little mouse?" She suddenly startled as if being caught red-handed, that heat in her cheeks so furiously increasing now.
"No reason," she hurriedly squeaked out, averting her gaze straight ahead. Casually hearing that audibly tired sigh that resounded from behind them.
By the way, how much more did they have to walk to get to that palace? It felt like they had been walking since forever, and that palace still appeared to be so far away. It seemed like they had been walking in place rather than moving any further. The palace appeared to remain equally far away, no matter much distance they crossed.
She lightly tugged at Nicholas' hand, drawing his attention. Making him pause and turn to look down at her with mild concern.
"Uhm, how much more is this going to take? Weren't we supposed to get there by now?" She timidly asked, anxiously shifting her gaze from him to the large building standing proud and tall and yet still so far away from them.
His brows furrowed for a moment, peering down between her eyes before realization suddenly dawned upon him.
"Shit," he cursed under his breath.
"Aios! You better stop with this shit right now! I'm really not in the mood!" He suddenly shouted out of the blue to no one in particular, making her startle a little.
What was he-
She let out a loud and startled squeal as the ground suddenly shifted beneath their feet, making them land at the bottom of the palace's stone steps in less than a second.
She breathed so fast and hard, struggling to calm down and overcome that dizzying sensation as she stood there, with her hand wrapped so tightly around Nicholas'.
"Fucking moron," She heard him murmur under his breath, taking a quick glance over her shoulder, just to notice that Wolf was still there with them. Continuing to look so unbothered and calm.
She then looked back at all those stone stairs awaiting her, unwittingly letting out a small whine.
She heard Nicholas chuckle from right next to her, "Come on, let me end your suffering," he rather jokingly said, right before picking her up bridal style.
The girl quickly wrapped her arms around his neck in return, feeling that slight flutter in her belly and that warmth faintly returning in her cheeks. She had grown to like this quite so much. This gentlemanly act of his.
He immediately sprung into action and darted all the way up with dizzying speed, the girl having to hold onto him so tightly as she actually feared that she could slip.
And once they were finally standing between those huge and tall columns he gently set her back on her own two feet, however still choosing to hold onto her hand. And with one last look at her, he fell into step again, heading straight towards that wide open entryway. With nothing but strong determination written all over his face.
