Chapter 62
"Emree! Take Theia to Bloodhound. She'll be safe in my father's office, far enough from here," I order, pushing Theia towards Emree, but Theia resists holding onto my arm.
"No! I'm staying with you!" She yells. Her gaze burns into mine with determination. I can hear shouts and scream coming from the distance, and I resist the urge to run towards it, falling onto my knees beside Theia to cup her small face.
"Listen to me, do you trust me?" I ask. She blinks, taken by surprise.
"Of course I do, but I want to protect you. What if something happens...!" Theia falls into a rant. I can clearly see worry reflect in her eyes.
"Look, whatever happens, happens. I can't predict the end of this battle, and I can't promise I'll return to you. Just-... know, *please know*, that I love you, and I'll do everything in my power to return to you," I plead. Theia's grip loosens, and I push her back.
Emree takes her, and once realisation sinks in, she fights to stay with me a little longer, but I smile at her as she disappears.
I appear back at the camp, everyone already standing their ground. I stiffen slightly, feeling Jaxson's gaze burn into the side of my face as I stand beside Charming.
"How are you?" He asks, in a low voice only for my ears. I stiffen slightly and turn my head.
"All things considered, fine," I scoff, watching through the tree lines waiting for the monsters to show themselves.
"You know he hasn't stopped looking at you?" He murmurs, even lower, and I resist the urge to turn my head and stare at the said asshole. I know if I look, I won't be able to turn away, and I really don't want to be sucked into his gaze like all the times before.
Nia whines in my head, urging me to turn to him, *"go and stand with him - we're his mate."*
*"I-I can't..."* I grumble back. *"Besides, an army is marching towards us. There is no time for love on the battlefield."*
Just as I say those words, an army of mud men emerges from the forest and leading them here is Kyro - but where is Freya?
They halt when Kyro stops, and his eyes examine everyone behind me before finally falling on me, "Kyro..." the moment Iliana speaks his name, Kyro's eyes turn livid.
Kyro taps his foot, and roots shoot from the ground aiming to pierce Iliana's flesh. Iliana dodges quickly, but the roots don't stop and aims to kill those behind her.
I quickly interfere, appearing beside Kyro and throwing off his concentration by kicking him in the stomach. He snatches my leg, but the roots fall as he tosses me into the forest.
My body flies through the field, and Kyro appears above me, ready to strike a devastating blow. Before he can, Jaxson interferes and lands a blow across his face.
I disappear and appear back to where I stood beside Charming. The mud men all share the same faces, and my breath catches, realising they mirror our army perfectly.
I have to admit, Freya is far more cunning than I gave her credit. Right now, we all know who is who, but once we get mixed up in the fray, confusion and chaos will begin. We'll start killing each other.
There's no way we can charge!
Also, Freya has definitely played a hand in their creation, and so, they're ten times stronger than usual. I can feel her dark intentions in them, but something else too.
The creatures - are they Faes?
No, Illiana never mentioned missing spies, but my intuition isn't wrong. They're definitely there. "You sense that too?" The demon king murmurs beside me. I keep my eyes ahead.
"Yeah, I can almost sense they're Fae's, but something is wrong..."
"They're dead, or at least they've crossed the threshold. Freya has trapped their souls. They can feel everything - life and death," Lucifer murmurs.
"They're in so much-... pain," I whisper, my voice cracking, feeling sad for them.
Freya materialises beside Kyro. I barely acknowledge her presence, still consumed by the Faes silent cries.
I was beginning to think this was a distraction for Freya to reach Caiden - but it seems not. What is she planning?
"Hello, Sister-... shall we get started?" Freya drawls, her presence darkening over the entire field. I can feel everyone's fear over her overwhelming power - I can hear their thoughts screaming to run. Their bodies - petrified.
Freya smirks, obviously predicting this outcome. "Sophia," I barely murmur before I see her floating body hover in the air, raising her hand to the bleeding.
She raises her hand, and rain pelts down onto Freya's army, distorting the faces of her mud monsters. Freya lifts her hand and smirks as every drop turns into large balls of ice.
They all hurdle towards us, and Jaxson appears in front of me. A cloudy mist of shadows grows from beneath his feet, and within seconds, it grows large enough to shield us.
*'It's time, Valerie. You're the hybrid Oracle - only you can lead this army. Only besides your friends - can you win.'*
Elises voice whispers in my ears as a foreign glow fills me with warmth.
*'I thought I was always the Oracle. I didn't know Elias needed to die so I can kill Freya.'*
*"No, the Gods chose you as Oracle, so you live with a fraction of their ability, but there can only ever be one. Elias has lived hundreds of years to fulfil his calling as Oracle - now their light lives in you. Use it-... Use it again and again. Save us! Save your worlds!"*
Selene's voice fills my ears as Jaxson's shield disappears. I unconsciously take a step beside him, my eyes meeting Freya's with fierce determination.
"Don't fear-..." I drawl, though my voice is low, it carries itself to every creature, "don't fall. Don't surrender. We are creatures of Eldora - we are monsters in our own right. We aren't designed to fall to our knees and accept death so easily. You may have been born from darkness, Freya - but we've learnt to survive in it. This is our world - this is our home. There is no place for a fallen God here. Now I'll only give you one warning-... surrender."
Freya turns livid, but she doesn't speak a word - I smirk.
My hands come together in prayer, the seeress symbol on my arm glows silver, and the sky cracks open as lightning shoots down and envelops my body, "Voce de Oracle, I summon thee - Selene!"
