Chapter 199 A Man Called Ryder {5}
Friday came.

True to Ryder's words, his driver, Holt, came to pick me up in a Maybach. The interior had polished seats to suit its taste, stealing the pressing thought of how Ryder had relayed to his driver to pick me up.

As the car neared my family's familiar residence, I could spot Darlene from where she stood, craning her neck. Holt stepped out from behind the steering wheel, circled the car halfway and opened the car.

Darlene raced back into the house into the house when she'd noticed who alighted. And the room was cramped up as I entered.

"Where's he?" Mum cocked a brow once I was inside.

Inhaling sharply, I tried a smile. This would be the most preposterous thing I had ever done. Maybe, I should just come out with the truth. Spill the beans about Ryder, my boyfriend being in the hospital and how very much our love would wake him up.

Despite my polished dress and exquite made-up face, I visibly tried to hide my growing fear that Ryder obviously wasn't going to wake up from that bed in Louis' hospital.

Mum and dad took the double armchair, while Darlene sat away from us. "Mylar," dad called me.

Looking around, I wondered why my dad was sounding so serious. If it were mother starting off the conversation, I would have understood.

"This has got to stop, Mylar." Dad brought out stacked papers, and read through a line. The words were familiar, I jumped from my seat, walked towards him, and snatched the papers from him.

"What is this?" My throat burned from biting fury, "do you go about burglaring your daughter's house?"

It made no sense. I snapped my eyes to Darlene who was obviously looking away from me. Mother was pressing her lips together, trying hard not to say a word.

"I had to send someone to do this. It made no sense when Darlene revealed to us what she saw you do the other day. With Travis exposing more, I just have to do it." My dad's calm tone cut through me.

I gasped. "You all think I'm crazy, right? But you have no right breaking into my house to steal this!" My nose flared.

"I am your father, Mylar and I have every right to do what is right for my daughter. I don't understand it, one would think I have a mad daughter. Writing yourself and doing whatnots." Dad's jaw clenched as he spoke.

Although dad had always supported me in the past. But with this, he had hurt me truly. Did he also think I was crazy as mother had insinuated?

I sniffed, blinking back the tears from my eyes. "Did mother put you up to this, dad?" I was still standing, yet I knew any moment from now, I could leave, slam the door and possibly never speak to them again.

How could he send someone to break into my house? Hadn't Ryder noticed? he would have told me if he did. Or maybe Ryder chose to ignore all this.

"You have no right speaking to your father that way." Mother finally spoke. "Did you hire a driver, Mylar?" Mum questioned.

I took a deep breath, this was not the time to get pissed, I told myself. "No, I did not. Ryder will soon be here. All these presumption that I may as well be mad has got to stop. I need you to believe me," I tried a smile.

"You hear your daughter, Lyon? Even after we had done our investigations? We need to get her out of that apartment. I believe she got this stubbornness from you," mum threw a frown at my father. She was talking to him like I wasn't even present in the room.

How I managed to stay still was what surprised me. Perhaps, I was the crazy one after all. But why couldn't they leave me to my life? They questioned every little good thing that came my way. When I got a job at Grace Elementary school, the same investigation had been conducted by my very own mother.

Maybe, she was the reason I'd been forced to get an apartment when I was only twenty four. 'Breathe,' I told myself.

Was it best I leave and stop arguing with them about breaking into my house, about Ryder O'Connell being my boyfriend?

"Mylar, is he coming?" Dad asked, breaking into my thoughts.

A knock saved me from answering. Darlene was quick to dash to the door. Well, I'd given all hope that Ryder O'Connell who had presumably assured me of his coming was indeed coming.

I took another deep breath just as Darlene stepped back to let in the visitor. "Dad, mum, I_"

"Hello, good evening. Are you Darlene? I hope I'm not too late?" That voice was damn so real to be true.

I snapped my head to the entrance. A tall, well muscled man, with the exact same facial features I'd always come to know. The only difference was the stubbles surrounding his chin. Was it truly him? His cologne hit me as he stepped inside the house.

I looked him up and down, noting the clean top and black trousers he wore. Underneath all that, he matched it with designer sneakers. He was real, he was damn real, in flesh, not a ghost. Beside him was Raye in a pretty, moss dress. She was holding onto his arm for support.

Everyone stared, wide-eyed.
They hadn't expected to see who was standing at the door, myself including. "May we come in?" Ryder asked.

I rushed towards him, reaching out to hold him. "I'm sorry, I'm late," he caught my stretched hand, pulled me into his embrace and kissed me firmly on the lips.

Stunned, from my peripheral vision, I noticed that my parents were up on their feet, smiling as he crossed over to greet them.

How was this possible?

What had happened?

I was dying to know everything.

Why didn't I believe his words he assured me of his coming?
