Chapter 462 He Insists She Comes to See Him in Person
Christopher's face darkened as he handed his phone to Emily. "Emily, look at this."
Emily glanced at him, confused.
When she saw the message on the screen, her eyebrows knitted together.
The sender clearly knew her and was keeping tabs on her actions. Otherwise, the message wouldn't have come so quickly.
"Aurora, come back. There's no need to go," Emily said.
Once Aurora got in the car, Christopher couldn't help but ask, "Emily, who is this person? What do they want? It's obvious they're targeting you."
Emily didn't need Christopher to point that out; she was already aware.
But who could it be?
Emily's mind raced. Suddenly, her expression grew serious. "James."
Whether in Skylight City or the Empire of Novara, wherever Snow Mountain Willow was, James was there too.
And she had thought Snow Mountain Willow would end up with Gregory, but it didn't. The deal between James and Gregory had fallen through.
Everything was connected.
The owner of Snow Mountain Willow was James.
Christopher, being sharp, quickly pieced it together. "Emily, the person who wouldn't budge before but is now agreeing must be James. What does he want?"
Emily wanted to know that too.
She tossed the car keys to Christopher and opened the door. "I'll find out what he wants by asking him directly. You two head back. I'll handle this myself."
Christopher was still worried, but he knew he couldn't interfere in matters between Emily and James. "Emily, call me if anything happens."
Emily nodded and strode into the café.
As she walked in, a chill seemed to follow her.
James knew she wanted Snow Mountain Willow and was using it to lure her.
They were about to get divorced, yet he kept up this ridiculous behavior.
Why did he want her to meet him in person? To flaunt his superiority and make her bow down?
With these thoughts swirling in her mind, Emily kicked open the door to the private room and marched in. "James, you..."
Emily was about to lash out, but she swallowed her words.
The person in the room wasn't James but a middle-aged man with wrinkles on his face.
The man was leisurely sipping coffee on the sofa. Emily's sudden entrance startled him, nearly causing him to spill his coffee.
Emily felt extremely awkward.
As a well-bred socialite from the Johnson family, she had always been composed. This was the first time she had shown such rudeness in front of a stranger.
"Are you Ms. Johnson?" The man placed his coffee cup on the table and stood up, scrutinizing Emily.
Emily scrutinized the unfamiliar middle-aged man in return.
She hesitated. "Are you the owner of Snow Mountain Willow?"
"That's right." The man adjusted his jacket and smiled at Emily.
He then gestured towards a black box on the table. "Ms. Johnson, please have a seat."
The man politely extended his hand.
Emily hesitated for a moment before sitting down at the table.
This man wasn't James, but someone she had never met.
However, her doubts remained.
"May I ask who you are?" Emily asked.
"Me?" The middle-aged man chuckled. "I'm just a businessman who enjoys collecting things."
Emily stared into his eyes. "I heard that your Snow Mountain Willow was auctioned abroad?"
The man smiled. "That's true, but the offers weren't satisfactory, so I brought it back. Knowing you wanted it, I came to meet you."
Emily caught the brief flash of surprise and confusion in the man's eyes but chose not to pursue it.
Instead, she asked, "So, what price are you asking for today?"
"Well," the man chuckled, "I feel a connection with you, Ms. Johnson. Since you like Snow Mountain Willow so much, it's its good fortune. Why don't you name a price? If it's reasonable, we have a deal."
Emily continued to stare at the man.
He was being too agreeable, unlike his previous aloof demeanor.
It felt like a trap.
Emily smiled. "You're the seller. Why don't you name a price? If I find it unreasonable, I'll negotiate."
The middle-aged man hesitated before finally holding up four fingers. " Four hundred thousand dollars?"
