Chapter 96 Murderer Revealed
After a couple of minutes' drive, Bryce and Marcus arrived at the police station, and Bryce went in to speak with the one in charge.
Meanwhile, at another location on 13th Street Avenue, Angela and Zora were in a small cabin house downtown. Zora was preparing breakfast in the kitchen, and Angela was setting the dining area.
"So you are going back tomorrow," Angela asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"Yes, I have to go back to work. I took a long leave, and it ended this Friday," Zora replied, turning off the fire under the oatmeal she was preparing.
"I guess I can't return to work now," Angela said sadly.
"Angela, you saw the news. Everyone sees you as a criminal," Zora said.
"Suspect, not a confirmed criminal," Angela said and sat on the kitchen stool. "It feels wrong hiding after Elena was killed right in front of our block," she added. "This rather makes me look guilty," she expressed.
"Angela, it's not about whether you are guilty or not. Look at your condition," Zora said, pointing to Angela's belly, which was still flat. "They will put you behind bars. Only God knows what they will do to you while they continue with their investigation," she added. "That is what I don't want. Just stay here. You have enough to last you a month. I am just hoping the police will find a new lead by then, and you can come out. For now, stay away from your phone. Don't call anyone," she advises.
"I will leave late at night so my neighbours will still think I am around. Don't come out, stay inside," Zora said.
"It already feels like prison," Angela whined.
"Angela, I don't want to see you behind bars. I know Bryce is looking for you, but with his sister gone and you being a suspect, I don't think his reason for searching for you now is to bring you back home as his wife. Please don't call him," Zora advised, making sure Angela would not make the mistake of calling Bryce following Elena's suggestion during their conversation.
"Okay," Angela replied, feeling downcast. "I wish I could call my parents and tell them where I am. At least to keep them from worrying," she said.
"Angela, this is for the best. Your parents will understand. No one must know where you are now. This is for your safety," Zora said and dished the oatmeal into the bowls. "I somehow feel that if Elena's death was not a warning gone wrong, it might be a wrong target situation, and somehow someone is trying to blame you," she added, and Angela frowned.
"What do you mean by a warning gone wrong?" Angela asked.
"Like someone was trying to scare her from coming to you, but mistakenly killed her instead," Zora explained.
"I get it. Susan may be crazy, but she will not kill to implicate me," Angela defended.
"Angela, there are bad people out there. I will not be shocked if that is the case," Zora said. "It's good you have even said something, I need to look out for spies," she added. "Now, let's go eat," she said, carrying the two bowls of oatmeal towards the dining area.
Angela carried the toasted bread and followed Zora to the dining area, which was directly opposite the kitchen.
While they had their breakfast, Zora went online and saw the news about the murder weapon being found.
"Angela, look," Zora said, showing her phone screen to Angela. "They have found the murder weapon. It is only a matter of time before the real criminal is found," she added while Angela read the details of the news.
"I guess you wouldn't have to stay here for a month," Zora said excitedly.
"I hope so," Angela said, not at all enthusiastic about it.
"Hmm, I guess this place will be empty again soon," Zora said, scanning the place. "Oh well, it has served its purpose," she added, focusing on her food.
"You act like you have nothing, but I can't believe you own a cabin," Angela said, trying to change the subject to stop herself from worrying.
"Well, it's good to hide your wealth sometimes, if not, you will have fake friends around you. You can ask Mr Moore, he will tell you. He is surrounded by more enemies than friends, and I am sure that is why he didn't want you to tell anyone about your marriage," Zora said.
"Hmm," Angela sighed, recalling the set of rules Bryce gave her after their silent marriage. "I just want this to be over. I feel sad for that young girl. She was very intelligent," she said, recalling Elena again.
"Yeah, she is. I pray they find the criminal soon and make him or her pay for the crime committed," Zora said.
Back at the police station, Bryce was done talking to the in-charge concerning Elena's murder case.
"Mr Moore, we are checking for fingerprints. I am sure we will come up with something soon. It was quite unfortunate that the surveillance cameras in that area were not functioning at the time of the crime. My team and I will do our best to find this murderer and put him/her behind bars," the officer assured Bryce.
"Thank you," Bryce said and exited the police station.
He got back into his car, and they headed back to the estate. On the way, Bryce made another attempt to call Angela, but her phone was still off. It's been a week, and her phone has remained off, and no one knows where she is.
"Marcus, I want you to turn the city upside down if you have to. Find Angela," Bryce said.
"Yes, boss," Marcus acknowledged.
Back at Susan's place, she had also received the news of the murder weapon being found. She quickly made a call to someone.
"I hope you did everything I asked you before dumping the weapon in the bin?" Susan asked.
"Yes, ma'am. Everything is going according to plan," the man replied.
"Good, you can pick up your money tomorrow at 6 am," Susan said and ended the call.
"Angela, keep hiding. You will soon be a confirmed criminal, and you will be on the wanted list of the police. You will go to prison and die mysteriously in prison. In your next life, think twice before you pick my man," Susan said.
Back at the station, the officer picked up the fingerprints found on the weapons and started running them in the system to find the one who had used those weapons. The officer sat behind the machine watching the screen as the system ran the fingerprint against multiple people to find a match.
