Chapter 79 Resignation Letter
Susan, after making multiple turns, finally found her way to the staircase. She quickly went down the stairs and found herself in the open space. The exit door was just a walk away from her left, and the living room was also a couple of steps away from her right. She requested an Uber and was soon out of Bryce's home. Josephine locked the main door as Susan left before returning to her room.
Inside the Uber, on her way back to her apartment, Susan called Eva.
"Have you found Angela yet?" Susan asked.
"No, it's like she just vanished into thin air," Eva replied.
"Keep looking, I am sure she is hiding somewhere. Bryce seems to like her, and I want to know why," Bryce said, and the Uber driver looked at Susan briefly in the rearview mirror before focusing his gaze on the road.
"And about Bernard. When are you going to help me with him?" Eva asked.
"Let the sun come up, and I will tell you what to do," Susan replied before ending the call.
"Who are you, Angela? Why does Bryce like you?" Susan thought, but remembered she wanted to call Devon.
"Hello," Susan said in a very sad tone.
"Susan, it's 8 p.m. Why are you calling?" Devon said.
"Daddy, it's Bryce. He threw me out of his house and made me request an Uber back home," Susan cried.
"Don't worry. I would handle my son. You go home and rest. I will sort everything out by tomorrow," Devon said.
"Okay," Susan accepted, sounding like she had been crying.
The night slowly passed. Back at Bryce's, he lay on his bed staring at the dressing table, which had Angela's stuff still sitting there. He had taken her to his family home in the morning, and she fainted, ending up in the hospital. From the hospital, she runs away. Her stuff remained in his home just like she had left it.
"Angela, where are you?" Bryce whispered on his lips.
The morning came, and Bryce left for the office. Marcus was still on the search for Angela, not sure where to look anymore.
At Zora's place, Angela had also just woken up from her sleep. Zora was getting ready for work.
"Okay, it's been two days since you came here, and I'm pretty sure Mr Charming is looking everywhere for you. You can't keep hiding here, especially not in this condition. I can't afford to invite a doctor in here, and you need to start going for a check-up. So what are you going to do?" Zora asked as soon as she realised Angela was awake.
"I am going to resign from Diamond Corporation, and I will need a disguise. Is it possible to get a job at your place?" Angela asked.
"Hmmm, I would ask our recruitment officer. We are good friends, and there is a vacancy for an additional procurement officer. I know you didn't do anything on procurement, but let's see if the recruitment officer would make an exception and grant you a chance for an interview," Zora said.
"I would love that. Staying home and doing nothing is taking a toll on me," Angela said, and Zora sat on the bed.
"Are you sure you don't want to tell Mr Charming why you ran away? For all you know, his father could have purchased the artefact from some antique shop?" Zora pointed out.
"Zora, growing up, my heart was filled with revenge. I had my eyes open and my ears to the ground. There was no mention of the artefact. Not in an auction or anywhere. It was said to have gone missing. We searched for it everywhere. Explain how it suddenly appears in Bryce's father's home?" Angela said.
"He found it lying somewhere, and he picked it up because it was pretty and sent it to his home because he is a lover of artefacts," Zora said and shrugged her shoulders. "Plus, was it reported missing?" she added.
"It was never reported missing. So if your theory is something to go by, I have one big question. Why was it hidden and not on display like all his other artefacts?" Angela asked.
"No space, I don't know. Why are you asking me? I am not Mr Charming's father," Zora said, raising her hand in surrender.
"I will find out soon," Angela said.
"Okay, I will call you," Zora said and soon left for work.
Alone in the room, Angela grabbed her phone, and it started ringing. Bryce's name flashed on her phone screen. She stared at it for a while and blocked his number when the call ended. She rested her hand on her belly and rubbed it gently.
"I am sorry for keeping you away from your father, but I can't be part of a family that murdered my parents," Angela said, staring at her belly.
Back at Diamond Corporation, Bryce was holding his phone in his hand. He tried calling Angela again, but this time it did not go through. He knew immediately something was up. He suspected Angela may have blocked his number.
"Marcus, come over to my office," Bryce said after calling Marcus and in a few minutes, Marcus was in Bryce's office.
"Block my number on your phone," Bryce ordered.
"Yes, sir," Marcus acknowledged and did as requested by Bryce.
Bryce attempted to call Marcus and listened to the feedback. He confirmed his suspicion. Angela had blocked his number.
"You can unblock my number now. Get me a new phone and a new number," Bryce ordered Marcus.
"Yes, Sir," Marcus acknowledged and left to carry out Bryce's orders.
He decided to get some work done. An email came into his inbox, and it was from Angela. Bryce opened the email, which had no title, and was surprised to read the content.
Resignation from Position
Dear Mr President,
It was an honour to work in your establishment and with you. Under your leadership, I have learnt a lot and achieved a lot. I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me and the trust you had in me.
Sadly, I have to leave as I can no longer work in your establishment in my current condition. I am ready to pay whatever penalty there is for ending my contract abruptly.
Best regards
Angela
Bryce read the email and checked those in the copy of the email. He realised Angela had sent the email to him alone.
He grabbed his phone receiver and dialled Bernard's extension.
"Put Angela on a month's sick leave," Bryce said, and Bernard understood why.
They knew the incident that took place was because Diana drugged Angela. Bernard already suspected Angela may be having some health issues due to the volume of cocaine put in the drink she took twice.
"Yes, Mr President," Bernard acknowledged and did as requested, sending a notification to all senior managers about the current situation of Angela as requested by Bryce.
Susan was in her office when the email from Bernard hit her inbox. She scoffed at reading the message.
"So this is the length Bryce is willing to go for that gold digger," Susan thought, staring at the email.
