Chapter 71 Let's Get A Divorce
Bryce, after the call, cancelled all his appointments for the day at the office and stayed with Angela at the hospital. A couple of minutes to hours went by before Angela opened her eyes. Her gaze fell on Bryce sitting on the chair next to her bed with his gaze fixated on his phone.
"Angela," Bryce called out to her, putting his phone aside after noticing the small movement from Angela. "How are you feeling?" he asked, leaning forward and taking her hand in his.
Angela tried to get up, but Bryce prevented her from getting up.
"Relax. Just lie down for a while," Bryce said, and Angela just stared at him.
Her mind quickly went to the artefact, and memories of the night her parents were murdered flooded her mind. Her breathing became unsteady, and she started trembling. Her hands flew to her ears as she closed her eyes, terrified.
"Angela," Bryce called out to her, seeing her panic.
"Leave me alone. Go away from me," Angela cried.
"Angela, it's me, Bryce. Calm down," Bryce said, trying to calm her down, but she stared at Bryce strangely, trying to match his body physique to any of the men who had murdered her parents that day, but Bryce never fit the profile.
"Calm down, Angela," Bryce said and sat on the edge of the bed.
He pulled terrified Angela into his arms, hugging her. She appeared to be scared of him at first, but she allowed him to hug her. He pressed the bell for the doctor, and two medical practitioners entered the room. Bryce stepped aside, and they attended to Angela. She went back to sleep.
"What was wrong with her?" Bryce asked.
"Not sure, but it appears she just had an episode of somnambulism," the doctor replied.
"In English?" Bryce said.
"What we call sleeping walking," the doctor replied.
"If that is the case, shouldn't she have woken up when you touched her?" Bryce asked.
"Well. Not always," the doctor replied. "I would run some tests to find out what is wrong with her," he added. "I would have to keep her here for a night to monitor her," he informed Bryce, and he nodded.
The doctor exited the ward, leaving Bryce with Angela. Bryce sat back on the seat. He leaned forward and pecked Angela on the lips. He rubbed the top of her head while Angela slept. He rested his back on the backrest of the seat and started browsing his phone. His phone buzzes with a call from Don.
"Hello, Mr Moore," Don greeted.
"Hi," Bryce replied, moving away from the bed to the window so he would not disturb Angela.
"I just wanted to update you on the latest development on the second premier. Everything is in place now, and we can do that next week on Thursday," Don said.
"Good. Britney and Bernard will reach out to you. They will help with the marketing bit," Bryce said.
"Yes, Mr Moore," Don acknowledged, and the call ended.
Bryce shifted his gaze to Angela, who was still sleeping, but she kept frowning occasionally. He walked back to the seat and sat down, staring at her face. He rubbed her head gently, and his eyes shifted to her belly. He smiled. He was going to be a father soon. He wondered if the child was going to be a boy or a girl. He kept stroking Angela's head for a while, and another call came through.
He answered it and moved away from the bed back to the window. It was his mother.
"Bryce, where are you?" Patricia inquired. "I returned home, and I met your father driving into the compound, angry. What happened?" she asked.
"I am at the hospital. Angela fainted, and I brought her to the hospital," Bryce said, and he didn't sound like he was worried.
"Bryce, you sound excited. I don't suppose you find your wife's fainting to be something to be happy about," Patricia said, finding the joy in his voice strange with what he was telling her.
"No. I am going to be a father," Bryce announced to his mother.
"Wow, congratulations, my son," Patricia said happily, and Bryce could hear her call Elena in the background.
Bryce smiled on the call as he heard Elena's squeal of happiness travel to his ears.
"Congratulations, dearest brother. Now I am going to have a little cousin. I wish is a girl so we can become besties,' Elena said in the background, and Bryce smiled.
"Wait, is that what your father is angry about?" Patricia asked.
"No, not really. It's something else," Bryce replied, not ready to talk about the details on the phone with his mum.
"Whatever it is, find a way to resolve it. You know your father," Patricia said. "You know what I need to plan the announcement. We will have a ceremony to announce her to the world. Let's do that quickly before her belly begins to show," he added.
"Yes, mum," Bryce said and was on the phone for a while with his mother before ending the call.
He was about to return to the office when another call came through. It was Bernard.
"Hello, Bernard," Bryce said.
"Mr President, we have a little problem," Bernard said on the call, and Bryce frowned.
"What is the problem?" Bryce inquired.
"Susan and Eva are here. I know they are not done serving their punishment," Bernard informed Bryce.
"Leave them. I will be in the office tomorrow. Let's see if they will still dare to show their face," Bryce said.
"Mr President, that is not all," Bernard said, and Bryce urged him to speak. "They are spreading rumours about Angela. They are saying, Angela slept her way into the company and even tried to seduce you," he said, almost stammering, and Bryce frowned.
"If they want to behave like unprofessionals, I will treat them as such. Call our external security men to drag them out of the company," Bryce said.
"Mr President, won't that be to the extreme?" Bernard asked, knowing their security would drag Susan and Eva out like they were criminals without caring who was watching.
"They ask for it. So let them have it," Bryce said and ended the call.
He turned around, and Angela was awake. He smiled and returned to the bedside. He sat down on the seat and reached for her hand, but Angela withdrew her hand quickly.
"What is it?" Bryce asked, staring at her.
"Let's get a divorce," Angela said, and Bryce frowned.
