Chapter 33 In Diamond Corporation, Everyone is Qualified
Angela stood frozen in her spot, waiting to hear Bryce's next words. Since she assumed her position in the company, it's been one trouble after another.
"What issue?' Bryce asked, staring at Susan.
"Mr Don is not happy we sent an unqualified person to manage his team. He feels insulted," Susan said.
"An unqualified person?" Bryce repeated the words. "Well, call Mr Don, and tell him that, I said, this is Diamond Corporation, every employee here can handle the task assigned to them. So he should focus on his side of the deal while we do ours after," he added.
"Yes, Mr President," Susan acknowledged and turned to leave.
With her back to Bryce and now facing Angela. She glared at Angela while walking away. Angela just stared at her leave and wondered what she did to make Susan hate her so much. She recalled how Susan had received her nicely in her office the first day she came to this company. So what changed?
"You care to tell me what happened at Don Entertainment?" Bryce's voice interrupted Angela's thought, and she shifted her gaze from the closed door where Susan had exited back to Bryce.
"Erm, ah," Angela stammered, and Bryce just stared at her.
"Well," Angela began and narrated everything that went on at Don Entertainment.
"You could have just told Mr Don that you were assigned a task and you are going to execute it for the benefit of Diamond Corporation. There was no need to prove anything to him by giving him all those details," Bryce said calmly.
"Yes, Mr President. I am sorry," I apologise.
"Angela, about what you saw earlier today..." he began, and Angela interrupted.
"I understand, Mr President. I will keep it to myself," Angela said with her head lowered.
Bryce wanted to tell Angela that was not what he wanted to say, but there was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Bryce said, and Bernard strode in.
"Hello Angela," Bernard greeted with a smile, and Angela smiled back.
Bryce clenched his teeth, trying to maintain an expressionless face after witnessing the interaction between Angela and Bernard, which looked intimate to him.
"Yes, that is what I need to tell you. You can leave," Bryce said, sounding a bit harsh.
Angela turned around and exited the office. She was hoping Bryce would have disputed her statement, but he rather affirmed her statement. She didn't know why she was hurt so much by his words of confirmation. She returned to her office and picked up the movie script to distract herself so she would not think about the morning incident and Bryce's attitude just now. This was a confirmation that something was going on between him and Susan.
Back in Bryce's office, Bernard engaged him in some internal affairs, but Bryce was distracted. He did notice the shift in Angela's mood, and he knew it had everything to do with what happened in the morning. He was in bed with her last night, and she walks in on him in such an awkward situation, he understands that it could be very hurtful.
"Mr President?" Bernard called out to Bryce, seeing he was distracted.
"Bernard, let's talk about this issue tomorrow. I have some things I need to take care of," Bryce said.
"Okay, I will go see Angela then," Bernard said, and Bryce frowned.
"What for?" The words left Bryce's mouth faster than the speed of light, surprising Bernard.
"I need her to brief me on what transpired at Don Entertainment," Bernard replied.
"Leave that. It is not important right now. Angela would share the report by the close of the day. I need you to call Mr Don. Susan flagged an issue. Get the details and handle that," Bryce said.
"Okay," Bernard acknowledged and headed for the exit.
"Am I imagining things, or did Mr President stop me from seeing Angela?" Bernard thought on his way out.
Outside, Bernard stared at Angela's door and smiled.
"Wait, is Mr President interested in Angela?" he thought and recalled the change of verdict when all evidence pointed to the fact that Angela decided to beat up Eva and again how easily he accepted a business idea to cover up Angela's mistake.
"Mr President is in love," Bernard thought and headed for the elevator, shaking his head in disbelief.
The day slowly passed, and it was soon closing time. Bryce picked up his phone and called Angela to his office again.
"Once you are done with the report, report back to my office," Bryce said and dismissed Angela to finish with her report for the day.
Angela returned to her office and completed her report for the day. She went back to Bryce's office, and he asked her to go get her bag. She did, and he made her sit in his car. They were going home together again. Angela did not know what to expect when they arrived at Bryce's home this time.
The car drove into the estate and was soon in front of Bryce's house. Angela got out of the car and hurried to the front door. Bryce was right behind her, taking long strides towards the front door. With his long legs, he caught up with Angela and entered the apartment right after Angela.
Angela hurried her steps up the stairs and turned to look at Bryce. She panicked when she realised he was right behind her. She found herself running towards the room. Bryce frowned and quickened his steps. He got to the door before Angela could close it. Angela pushed against the door to close it, but Bryce opened it easily, as if Angela were a piece of paper stuck to the door.
"Why are you running away from me?" Bryce asked, and Angela didn't have an answer.
He closed the door behind him and stood a couple of distances away from the door while Angela stood by the bed staring at him, not sure how to explain her behaviour just now. She got scared, and her mind went into confusion as she could not tell which of the events was the trigger for her behaviour. Was it because yesterday, when he brought her home, they ended up in bed, so automatically, he was going to sleep with her again? Or was it the morning incident, or Don's entertainment incident or just Bryce's presence?
Bryce took a step forward, and Angela took a step back and ended up tripping and falling on the bed. Bryce drew closer to the bed and stared at her lying face up on the bed with her feet still on the floor. He bent over her and trapped her in between his hands by placing his hands on each side of her and keeping himself suspended over her.
"Why are you terrified?" Bryce asked, staring down at her.
Angela, having no explanation that would make sense for her behaviour, lowered her lashes, making it look like she closed her eyes.
