Chapter 176 A Dying Wish - Part 2
Bryce mounted the stage, and Martin stood next to him.
"Thank you all for coming, and I appreciate your commitment to the work we are doing here," Bryce began. "I believe you have all received the results of your appraisal in your emails and know where you stand in your performance," he said. "No one is getting his or her appointment terminated. For those who perform poorly, provision has been made for you to help you become better," he said.
"On this note, I would like to introduce the new Deputy HR manager of PEG Industries, in the person of Ms Zora," Bryce said, and Zora stood up beaming with smiles.
She walked up to the stage, smiling and joined Martin and Bryce. She glanced briefly at Martin, but his expression was hard and unreadable. He stood there like a guard. She stood next to Bryce, and Bryce continued with the introduction.
"She is going to take you through what the Performance Improvement Programme is all about," Bryce said and moved away from the podium for Zora to take over.
He dismounted the stage with Martin, and Zora stood behind the podium.
Her slide was projected, and she started walking the employees through what the performance improvement programme was and how it was going to be carried out after greeting them and appreciating the opportunity given to her.
"This is going to help you improve your service delivery and also plan your itinerary in such a way that you will be able to meet all your set targets. It will also help you identify your weaknesses so you work on them and your strengths so you keep them up," Zora said. "I will end here and open the floor for questions, if any," she said.
There were a few questions from the employees, and Zora answered them all. Bryce took over after Zora was done, and the whole session came to an end.
They all left the auditorium and continued with work until the close of the day. Bryce, Zora and Martin left the company for home the same way they had come in.
Bryce was greeted by Angela with a kiss as soon as he walked through the front door. Zora stood by the side with a smile. Angela hugged Zora next and welcomed Martin home too with a handshake before returning to hold Bryce's arms.
"I will go change and freshen up," Martin said and excused himself.
"Mr Moore, I would like to discuss something with you after dinner if that is okay," Zora said, and Bryce nodded before leaving with Angela for his room.
Zora hurried her steps to catch up with Martin, but to her surprise, when she got to Martin's door, he had locked it. Zora knocked gently but was met with silence. After knocking for a while with no response from Martin, she turned around and sadly went to her room.
Martin was inside the bathroom taking a shower when he heard that knock. He had deliberately locked the door, knowing Zora would come in. His mind went back to the scene that greeted him when he opened the visitor's room door.
He had gone to Zora's office to inform her that the introduction would be done earlier, but her office was empty. She met the employee in the corridor, who informed her that Zora was in the visitor's room with a visitor. He went downstairs because he was surprised someone had come to look for Zora on her first day of work. He wanted to ensure she was safe, especially after what they found in the lightbulbs in the apartment. He also intended to let her know the introduction would be done earlier. The door was not completely closed when he got there, so just by touching it, it opened. That was when he saw Zora kissing another man on the couch. His heart was shattered, and he closed the door immediately. He left a message with the receptionist to inform Zora when she was out about what Bryce had said.
After recalling everything, he felt sad and also felt betrayed.
"Is this because I am holding out on her?" Martin thought, realising Zora wanted to sleep with him, but he also wanted to wait till they were married.
Later in the day, they all sat behind the dining table and had their dinner. Bryce shared an update on the company status, but Zora and Martin were quiet. Zora decided to see Bryce and address Martin later.
After dinner, Zora went with Bryce to his study. She explained everything to Bryce concerning Elorm.
"Please, help me grant him his dying wish," Zora pleaded, and Bryce stared at her for a while.
"Okay," Bryce said, and Zora smiled.
"Thank you," Zora said.
"So what will he be doing with such a condition?" Bryce asked.
"He would assist with office work. So nothing stressful," Zora replied.
"Okay," Bryce acknowledged.
Zora thanked him and left his study. She returned to her room and tried knocking on Martin's door again, but quickly realised the lights in his room were off. She turned around and went to her room. That night, she struggled to sleep, turning and tossing in her bed, wondering what was happening.
Back at Elorm's place, he was on a call with someone.
"She believed the report," Elorm said. "I also created a little problem between her and her new love," he said. "I know Zora, she will find something for me in the company. We will know by tomorrow," he said.
"Well done. Once you are in, be careful what you do. Bryce will have someone keep an eye on you. Make him believe you are there to work. He would eventually get off your back, and you can strike," the man said.
"Yes, boss. And thank you so much for helping me avenge my father," Elorm said.
"Your father was a dedicated member of our team. It was quite sad when we lost him. Bryce's father started it, and Bryce came to finish it. At least, I know that is what he thinks after sending my mum to prison. I will finish what my mum started and bring our business back to life," he said, and Elorm smiled.
