Chapter 131 Meeting the Davis

Chapter 131 Meeting the Davis
Bryce sat down and started going through the report. He frowned as he read the report. There was a pen drive inside the brown envelope, which he had pulled the documents from. He quickly turned on his laptop and put the pen drive inside. He watched everything and frowned deeply. He picked up his phone and called Martin.
"Sir, you called?" Martin said as soon as he entered the study.
"I need you to do something for me," Bryce said. "I just went through the report on Angela. I want you to look further into Elena's death and that of Patience," he said.
"Yes, sir. How soon do you want it?" Martin asked.
"As soon as possible," Bryce replied.
"Yes, sir," Martin replied.
"Let's go. We are going to the Davis home," Bryce said.
"Yes, sir," Martin replied, and they both stepped out of the study.
"Sir, are you going somewhere?" Josephine asked as soon as Bryce came down the staircase.
"Josephine, what is wrong with you?" Bryce questioned with a frown.
"Nothing, sir," Josephine replied, forcing a smile on her face. "I just want to know if there is anything special you would like me to prepare today," she said.
"Josephine, you have been the head of the servants for three years now. Do you not know your responsibilities any more?" Bryce questioned.
"I do know them, sir," Josephine replied and lowered her head.
"The next time you ask me such a question, I will not hesitate to terminate your contract," Bryce said.
"Yes, sir," Josephine said and stepped aside as Bryce walked towards the door with Martin right behind him.
"Will he ever accept me when he finds out I am his mother?" Josephine thought, staring at the closed door. "Will he forgive me if he finds out that he is going to serve the Davis family because of me?" she thought and slowly started heading for the kitchen.
At another place in New York City, Bryce's car drove towards a huge gate. The gate was opened as soon as the bodyguards of the Davis family's car approached it. Bryce's car followed next. The compound was big and beautifully decorated with exotic flowers. Bryce sat in the back seat of his car, relaxed, waiting for the car to finally park.
Bryce's car was parked under the provided shed. One of Davis's guards quickly walked over to Bryce's car and opened the door for Bryce. Bryce stepped out of his car, dressed in his fine suit. A lady and a gentleman were waiting at the entrance of the house.
"Ah, Bryce Micheal Moore," the lady said, smiling. "You are welcome," the lady said. "I am Matilda Davis," she introduced.
"Nice to meet you, Mrs Davis," Bryce said, accepting the handshake from Matilda.
"I am George Davis," the man standing next to Matilda introduced.
"Nice to meet you, Mr Davis," Bryce said and also shook George's hand.
"Just call me George," George said while shaking Bryce's hand.
"Ah, let's go inside," Matilda said, and the door behind them opened.
Bryce walked with Matilda and George, with the guards trailing behind them through a long hallway.
"Mr Moore, how has it been?" Matilda asked.
"Not too good. I lost two members of my family," Bryce replied as they approached a huge door.
"Oh," Matilda said. "I read that in the news. My condolences," Matilda said, and the huge door opened.
They walked into a huge space which was nicely decorated with natural flowers. There was a staircase just a distance away from them connecting to a railing above them.
"Thank you," Bryce said as he admired the place.
The Moore family was rich and powerful, but it appears the Davis family are more rich. They climbed the staircase and soon found themselves in an exclusive living room. Luxury could be smelled all around the place. From the chairs to the nice decoration and the colours. Gold and white. It was just perfect.
"Have a seat, Mr Moore," Matilda said and equally sat down on a huge sofa.
Bryce made himself comfortable, and so did George. The guards took their stands at their various positions, leaving Martin standing there. Martin moved and stood behind Bryce's chair.
"You can join the other guards over there," Matilda said, and Martin shifted his gaze to Bryce.
Martin moved towards one of the Davis's guards after Bryce approved, and the Davis's guard made room for Martin where he stood.
"You are once again welcome to the Davis mansion," Matilda said to Bryce.
"You invited me," Bryce went straight to the point.
"Yes, I did," Matilda said. "You are my grandson and the new Don," she said, and Bryce frowned but still waited for Matilda to finish with her statement.
"Your father, Mr Matthew Moore, married my daughter, Josephine Davis. Their marriage was kept a secret at that time because of our enemies. If I say a secret, I meant to say, no one knew your father was the Don of this family," Matilda narrated. "When you were born, before I arrived at the hospital, I received the news that my grandchild had died and a couple of minutes later. My daughter, your mother's, was announced dead too. I went to the hospital and took her body away. I had our medical team attend to her. I could not believe she was dead," she narrated. "It turns out someone injected her with a medication which triggered a cardiac arrest, but luckily for her, she was out for a while and woke up again. We treated her and did a surgery to change her face," she added.
"So my mother is alive?" Bryce asked.
"Yes, Mr Moore. She is," Matilda replied.
"Where is she?" Bryce asked, and Matilda exchanged glances with George.
"She works in your home as the head of servants," George replied, and Bryce raised his eyebrows.
He lowered his gaze in deep thought and frowned deeply. He recalled when he met Josephine at the gate on his way to work, three years ago. He had employed her because she used to be his nanny when he was just twelve years old. She was very young back then and very beautiful. He was not sure why she left, but he was happy to see her again. After hearing her story, he offered her a job as the head of his servants. He frowned again, recalling she had introduced herself as Josephine Brown.
"You must be mistaken," Bryce said. "The head of my servants is called Josephine Brown," he informed them, and they both smiled.
"This is the head of your servant, right?" Matilda said and showed Bryce a picture of Josephine.
"Yes, she is," Bryce replied after staring at the woman in the picture.
"Her real name is Josephine Davis. I sent her out on a mission. When I found out that someone had entered my daughter's ward and taken you away. I sent my daughter to confirm the story. And we did," Matilda said and snapped her finger.
One of the guards quickly moved and returned with a file. Matilda took the file and handed it to Bryce. Bryce accepted.
"What is in this?" Bryce asked.
"The proof of my claim," Matilda replied.
Bryce opened the file, and inside it were DNA test results showing that he was Josephine's son. There was another paper. It was a birth certificate, which had his father's name and that of his mother written on it. He read his father's name as Mathew Moore and his mother's name as Josephine Davis. He recalled that the face of his uncle's wife was different.
"My uncle's wife looked different," Bryce pointed out.
"Is that her?" Matilda asked, showing Bryce another picture. "Now compare the two pictures," she said.
Bryce looked at the picture of his uncle's wife and that of Josephine and realised, despite how different they looked, their eyes looked the same, and some other features confirmed it was the same person.
"So you invited me here to tell me my housekeeper is my mother?" Bryce asked.
"No, your father was murdered. I believe the person who took you away from your mother and tried to kill your mother killed your father. We want you to investigate the death of your father," Matilda said.
"We needed a new Don to take over before we can look into that case," Matilda said.
"So this is why you brought me here. To investigate my father's murder," Bryce said.
"Yes, and also to free you from marrying Susan McClean," Matilda replied, and Bryce frowned.
