Chapter 120 Let's Find that Corrupt Officer

Chapter 120 Let's Find that Corrupt Officer
Bryce stood up from behind his desk and exited his office. He is not a drinker, but at this moment, alcohol was making sense to him. The pain he was feeling in his heart was too much to bear. He grabbed the car keys and headed for the front door. Josephine saw Bryce walking towards the front door, and he didn't seem like his usual self.

"Sir, forgive me for asking, but is everything alright?" Josephine asked.

"Does anything look alright in this house?" Bryce questioned in his deep voice without bothering to turn to even look at Josephine, who was standing behind him.

"I am sorry, Sir, but you look troubled," Josephine pointed out.

"Get back to work," Bryce ordered. " I don't pay you to question me," he added.

"Sir," Josephine tried again.

"Don't make me repeat myself," Bryce said.

"Yes, Sir," Josephine said and stood there watching Bryce resume his walk.

She stood there and watched him walk out the front door. As soon as he did, Josephine hurried to Martin's room on the next floor. She knocked on the door like someone was after her.

The door opened, and Martin's face came into clear view, making Josephine take a step back. He frowned, wondering what she wanted.

"What do you want?" Martin asked with a frown.

"Is the boss?" Josephine said. "He went out. I saw him grab the car keys," she reported.

"That is not strange. He sometimes drives himself to places he doesn't want any of us to be," Martin said.

"No, Martin. He didn't look okay to me. He looked troubled. I have never seen him like that since I started working here. Please, hurry and go check on him. At least make sure he is okay," Josephine pleaded.

"Okay, fine, worried mummy," Martin teased. "I will go check up on your little boy and see if his diaper needs changing or if he is just hungry," he added, smiling.

"Cut the joke out. Please hurry," Josephine pleaded, looking very worried.

Martin went inside and closed the door to Josephine's surprise.

Josephine started banging on the door and calling out to Martin. The door suddenly opened, and Martin stepped out.

"Hey, calm down," Martin said, holding his jacket in his hand. "I went to grab my jacket," he said.

"Okay, please hurry before he leaves the compound," Josephine said, and Martin started walking towards the exit, surprised by Josephine's behaviour.

Josephine hurried her steps behind him. At the door, Josephine stood there and watched Martin exit the front door, and she hurried back upstairs to the next floor to see if Martin was able to catch up with Bryce, looking at all the time-wasting they did.

Outside, Josephine's eyes scanned the compound, hoping to see Bryce, but he was nowhere to be found. A couple of minutes passed, and she saw the garage open and a car drive out. She already knew Bryce had left the compound, and Martin was going out to find him.

"Dear Lord, please protect Bryce. Don't let anything bad happen to him," Josephine prayed and returned to the kitchen to continue with her work, hoping Martin would find Bryce.

Outside, Martin drove out of the estate and spotted Bryce's car far away on a straight road. Bryce had not made any turn, so it was easy for Martin to find his car on the road. Martin quickly stepped on the accelerator to catch up with Bryce's car. After a couple of minutes' drive, he saw Bryce's car pull over at a bar.

"Since when did my boss start to visit the bar?" Martin thought.

Bryce owns a club, but visiting the bar is something he doesn't do. Martin parked the car and got out. He also entered the bar, ensuring Bryce did not see him. From where he was standing, he saw Bryce behind the counter, which was at the far end of the bar. He watched as the bartender served Bryce a drink. A couple of girls got closer to Bryce, but occasionally Bryce would push those getting too close away.

"OH dear, he will make headlines tomorrow," Martin thought, still watching the scene before him.

An hour went by, and he realised from Bryce's behaviour that he was drunk. A girl who had been persistent began to bother him, but Bryce would still not give in.

"Okay, that is enough," Martin thought and walked towards the bar.

"Get lost before I make you go missing," Martin threatened the lady bothering Bryce, and she left immediately. "If this makes headlines tomorrow, I am shutting this place down," he said to the bartender who had figured out who Bryce was. "Boss," he said to Bryce.

"What are you doing here?" Bryce asked and burped, and Martin just stared at him briefly, wondering what could put his boss in such a state.

"I came to take you home," Martin replied.

"Okay," Bryce replied.

Martin placed Bryce's hand across his shoulders and helped him out of the bar. Martin put Bryce in the back seat of the car he had come in. After strapping Bryce in, he took the keys to the car Bryce had come in and went to ensure it was locked before leaving the place with Bryce.

At the headquarters, Darren went to see his boss.

"Darren," the General said.

"There is something fishy going on at the central police station, I would like to bring to your attention," Darren said.

"Go on," the General said.

"It has to do with the Moore family murder case. I got an alert that something fishy was going on. So I sent one of my men to look at it, and this is what I found," Darren said and gave the two files to the General.

The General accepted the file from Darren and started going through it.

"This case is being handled by the chief," the General said and stared briefly at Darren before turning his gaze to the file in his hand.

"Yes, but someone is tampering with the report," Darren said.

"This only means we have a corrupt officer at the central police station," the General said after going through the file.

"Yes, I know the chief will ignore me if I go to him, " Darren said. "This is why I brought it to you. If you permit me, I will look into it and fish out the corrupt offer," he added.

"Okay, you can run your investigation on the side. Remember that it is the chief's jurisdiction. Do this discretely. I also want to find the corrupt officer, and we can report him to the chief later," the General instructed.

"I will do that," Darren said and exited the office. "I have done my part, old friend. Let's just hope that your daughter is innocent, like you said, and this is the work of a corrupt officer," he thought as he headed back to his office to carry out the General's orders.

A day went by, and Susan decided to go shopping since it was the middle of the week, Wednesday. This coming Saturday is her engagement party. She got ready and was about to leave when her phone buzzed with a message notification. She quickly checked it, and it was from Ian.

Check your email. I sent you something you might be interested in.

Susan read and then went into her email. There was an email with an attachment. She decided to check it out on her phone. She downloaded the attachment and started going through it. Her eyes widened as she read it. She fetched her phone and dialled Eva's number.

"Eva, get your men. I need you to keep an eye on Mr Anderson. He intends to meet up with Bryce today. Take care of him before he messes things up for us," Susan said.

"Angela is in prison. Who takes the fall if I take him down?" Eva asked.

"Don't worry about that, the chief will take care of that," Susan said, and the call came to an end.

Back at the Andersons, Mr Anderson was all dressed up and was about to step out to meet up with Bryce. He had not reached out to Bryce yet, but he was hoping Darren could help make an arrangement.

"Hello, Darren, I am ready," Mr Anderson said on the phone once the call connected.

"Okay, I will reach out to Mr Bryce. I will let you know what happens," Darren said, and the call ended.

Back at Bryce's apartment, Bryce had just woken up with a serious hangover, and Josephine knocked on his door and entered carrying a tray of soup.

"Good morning, Sir, I brought you a bowl of soup to help with the hangover," Josephine said.

Bryce looked in Josephine's direction while pulling himself to sit on the bed. He heard his phone buzz and shifted his gaze following the direction of the sound.
