Chapter 70 Dealt With
“This is everything I found.” I give his dad the phone, letting them look through the photos at their own pace.
“This is great, Anna. Did you get anything else?”
I recall everything that was said to me that has to do with their job. I make a point to remind them of the other pack they are hunting right now.
“So what now? How can we stop them without killing them?” I ask, wanting to remind everyone that I’m not going to go along with a plan that includes killing my parents.
He sighs, looking torn. “I understand you don’t want anything to happen to them, but I really don’t know what our other option is besides a fight.”
I feel desperate all over again, and it’s a feeling I’m quite tired of right now.
“What if I talk to them?”
“Even if you were able to convince them to abandon their hunt of our pack, that doesn’t mean it’ll stop them from hunting others. And it would be wrong of us to let them go to kill more of our kind.”
He’s not wrong about that. How do I get them to abandon this job in total? This is something they’ve done for a long time. How can I expect them to change their job just because I say so?
“What if I can convince them to stop completely?”
He shakes his head. “How would that even happen?”
“I’ll talk to them using the fact that I’m their daughter over them. I can threaten them, too. If they don’t back down, I won’t stop you guys from taking care of them.”
“I know you don’t want anything to happen to your parents, but that isn’t reasonable.”
“I’m not backing down from this. You need to let me at least try before I’ll just sit back and let you guys hurt them.”
“Fine, we’ll let you try to talk to them. But please do not tell them Alec is your mate or how you found out about all of this. We don’t need them using you to get to us.”
Although it’s scary and nerve racking to think about confronting my parents like this and threatening them, and doing everything I’m going ot have to do, I’m so happy to have them finally be willing to include me in this damn plan.
“Great, yes, I won’t tell them anything. I’ll make this happen, I promise.”
It’s weird, the thrill of excitement and enthusiasm that courses through me at the idea.
“Tomorrow. Call your mother again and ask to meet with her and your father at their house. Then you can talk with them.”
I nod eagerly.
“But today you need to go back to camp. People are going to start getting worried if you’re gone for much longer.”
He isn’t wrong. That’s what leads to me being at camp with a very annoyed Beth sitting in front of me with a very unhappy look on her face.
“I can’t believe you just left without telling me anything. You could’ve at least told me when you would come back. I almost worried you were dead. Until I remembered you and your boyfriend are always together.”
“I’m sorry, Beth, it’s just been crazy with Alec. I’ve been meeting his parents, and everything, and it’s just gonna continue to get crazier, so I won’t be around as much for the rest of the summer.”
She looks concerned at my cryptic words. “What’s going on?”
“I can’t really talk about it with you. It’s personal family crap with his family, but it’s just gonna be taking so much more of my time.”
She sighs. “Okay, I’m sorry for being mean. I get it now that you’re obviously very stressed out and a lot of shit is happening, but next time just tell me, please.”
“I will, I promise. I’m sorry for not telling you before.”
Beth’s always so forigivng even though I know I haven’t been the best friend this summer since I’ve been so heavily focused on myself and Alec. And now my damn family. But it’s nice she still treats me so wonderfully. I wish I could just stay like this with her for a while longer, but before I know it, it’s time to call my mom.
Once again, I’m in front of everyone as the phone rings. This time, she answers right away, greeting me happily.
“Hey, honey, what’s up?”
“Hey mom. Are you and your father going to be around today?”
She pauses for a second. It’s not lost on any of us how weird and out of the ordinary my question is.
“Yeah, we’re going to be in home all day. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, I mean no. I need to talk to both of you about something. Today.”
“What happened? Are you hurt?”
“No, but I need to talk to you guys today. Can I come over soon?”
I’m not trying to be too pushy, but I can’t help it. I’m stressed and upset. So I’m not going to hold back.
“Yes, of course you can come over anytime, we’ll be here.”
“Okay, I’ll see you soon.”
I get ready to hang up, but she stops me.
“Wait, I just have to know now before I lose my mind. Are you pregnant?”
This question takes me completely off guard. I don’t even know what to say for a second. How could she think I’m pregnant?
“What? No, I’m not pregnant. Why would you even think that?”
“Well, you’re dating someone, and now you want to talk to both dad and me. I just wanted to make sure.”
“No mom I’m very far from pregnant.”
“Okay, that’s great. I’ll see you soon then.”
“Okay, bye.”
I hang up, looking at the room. Alec looks slightly flushed while Kyson and Noah look very amused at the end of the call.
“Wow, you two love birds trying for a baby?” Kyson’s annoying voice tries to make fun of the situation.
Alec throws something from his parents' desk at him, making a loud thump. He whines, holding his arm where it was hit.
“Shut up, Kyson.”
“Anyways, you’re good to go. Now all that’s left for you is to convince them to stop their business, and then hopefully it’ll be dealt with.”
