Chapter XIV

As they finished catching up, Sadie mentioned she had an extra ticket to the upcoming community winter ball and asked if Lily wanted to go with her. Lily hesitated at first, knowing that it would be awkward to run into Knox or Alexander there, but ultimately, she decided to go.

She needed to move on and start living her life again.

The night of the ball arrived, and Lily felt a mix of excitement and nerves as she got ready. She wore a stunning dark green dress that hugged her curves perfectly, and her hair was styled in loose waves. Sadie looked equally stunning in a red gown, and the two sisters made their way to the ballroom.

As soon as they entered, Lily's eyes scanned the room for Knox or Alexander, but she didn't see either of them. She felt a sense of relief and decided to let loose and enjoy the night.

Amidst the colorful lights and vibrant atmosphere, a familiar melody caught her attention. The music was loud, the drinks were flowing, embracing the magic of life and finding joy in the simplest of moments.

Turning towards the source, her eyes met those of a captivating stranger.

His smile was infectious, his eyes twinkling with mischief. Without hesitation, he extended his hand towards her, inviting her to join him on the dance floor.

Lily found herself dancing with a handsome stranger.

He was charming and had a great sense of humor, and she found herself laughing and having a good time with him.

Instantly, Lily found herself twirling and laughing with this charismatic stranger.

Their bodies moved in perfect synchrony, as if they had known each other for a lifetime.

She couldn't help but be drawn to his magnetic personality - his quick wit and genuine kindness resonated deeply within her.

As they danced, their conversation flowed effortlessly.

Each word exchanged revealed shared interests and passions that seemed too coincidental to ignore.

The music seemed to fade into the background as Lily almost became completely engrossed in this enchanting encounter.

However, as they danced, Lily's eyes met Alexander's across the room. She admired how he looked handsome in a black suit, and his eyes were fixed on her.

She felt a shiver run down her spine as their eyes locked, and she knew that she needed to talk.

Excusing herself from the stranger, Lily made her way over to Alexander.

With each graceful step she took, Lily's heart pounded faster.

She could feel the electricity in the room as their eyes continued to meet, like two magnets irresistibly drawn together.

The air was thick with tension as they stood face to face, neither of them speaking for a moment.

Finally, Alexander broke the silence. "You look stunning tonight, Lily," he said, his voice low and husky.

Lily felt a blush rise to her cheeks at the compliment. "Thank you," she replied softly trying to conceal her nervousness. "I couldn't help but notice you watching me from across the room. Care to join me for a breath of fresh air?"

Alexander's face lit up with a mixture of surprise and delight. "I was hoping you'd come over," he replied, extending his hand to escort her outside.

They stood there in silence for a moment longer before Alexander spoke again. "I know things have been complicated between us, but I just wanted to say that I miss you, Lily."

Lily felt her heart race at his words. "I miss you too, Alexander," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Without another word, Alexander took Lily's hand and led her to a more seclusive side of the balcony overlooking the winter wonderland below.

The hours passed like minutes - time held no importance when two souls were connected by an invisible thread of chemistry and understanding. “You exuded an air of mystery", Lily said quietly.

The snow was falling softly, and the world felt peaceful and quiet.

The moon cast a soft glow over them as they settled into conversation, their words flowing effortlessly.

The peace and quiet was suddenly broken when Lily heard a recognizable voice.

"I knew you were deceiving me", Knox said. "What do you mean?", Lily replied, "I told you the truth." "No, you didn't" he countered.

Lily looked at Knox with confusion written all over her face. "What are you talking about, Knox? I told you everything," she said, her voice trembling a little.

Knox's eyes narrowed as he took a step closer to her. "You left out the part where you were sneaking around with Alexander behind my back," he said, his voice low and dangerous.

"I saw the messages, Lily. I know you were deceiving me."

Lily's heart sank as she realized that her secret had been uncovered. She had hoped to protect Knox from the truth, but now it was all unraveling before her.

"Knox, please understand," she pleaded, tears welling up in her eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I was just trying to help someone in need."

Lily's heart skipped a beat as she realized that Knox knew about her relationship with Alexander.

She felt a knot form in her stomach as she tried to handle the situation, but before she could say anything, Alexander stepped forward.

"Knox, calm down," he said, trying to defuse the situation.

Knox's eyes darkened, and his jaw tightened. He stared into Alexander's eyes and said, "Stay out of this."

He turned to Lily; the anger in him rising with her silence. "It's between you and me." Out of the corner of her eyes, Lily's heart skipped a beat as she saw the towering figures emerge from the shadows on the balcony.

They were massive men, exuding an air of authority and protection. As her gaze shifted towards Knox, Alexander, and herself, she noticed Knox's demeanor shifting from confidence to nervousness.

The sudden transformation in Knox's attitude piqued Lily's curiosity, “what the fuck is happening?”

She leaned in closer, her senses heightened and her mind racing with questions. And then, with a smirk on his face, Knox dropped a bombshell that left Lily stunned.

"It doesn't matter anyway," he sneered, his words cutting through the air like a knife. "You're not the sister I originally wanted."

Lily stood frozen in disbelief. The world around her seemed to blur as she struggled to comprehend the revelation that had just been unleashed. The air hung heavy with tension as silence enveloped them all.

The weight of those words sank deep into Lily's core, igniting a fire within her. Determination coursed through her veins as she refused to accept this unexpected turn of events without a fight. She had always believed in the strength of their relationship. Although, it has dissipated .

With an unwavering resolve, Lily confronted Knox. "What do you mean? How can you say that?" Her voice trembled with a mix of hurt and anger.

Sadie stepped closer as she spoke, her voice thick with malice. "You aren't the girl Knox wanted," she addressed Lily pointedly.

She then faced Knox and asked, her tone challenging, "Do you want to tell her, or should I?"

Lily's heart raced as Sadie's words hung in the air, filled with venom and a hint of cruelty.

The room fell silent, tension crackling like electricity between the three of them. Sadie, with her piercing gaze, seemed to take pleasure in the discomfort she was causing.

Knox's eyes flickered between Sadie and Lily, his features contorted with a mix of guilt and apprehension.

He knew he couldn't keep the truth hidden any longer; it was time for him to come clean. With a deep breath, he stepped forward, his voice filled with a mixture of regret and determination.

A group of figures had appeared out of the shadows and were now standing near Knox, a sign that they stood with Lily but who were they?

As these thoughts raced through her mind, Lily felt as if a knife had cut into her chest.

"This can not be true," she mumbled, barely audible.

Alexander kept a guarded silence as the tense situation unfolded. “"Lily, remember trust is not easily regained once broken," Alexander whispered in Lily’s ear.

Desperate to embrace her and whisk her away. His actions were halted.

His men telepathically started to speak to him.

Suddenly, Isaac's voice broke through his mental conversation with his troops. "We must leave now," he projected telepathically, "your father has been injured."
