When Kara heard his name, her amber eyes lit up and she became somewhat clear-headed.
"Are you Uncle James?"
She had seen her father's business partner when she was a child!
"Yes."
The girl's amber eyes were clear even under the dim light.
The kitten raised by him also had a pair of amber eyes. Every time it longed for his touch, it would look up at him with sparkling eyes.
He softened a lot upon thinking of this. When she leaned over, he didn't push her away.
"Uncle James, I am Kara. I'm hurt ... and I'm in so much pain...."
Kara wanted to remain sober, but the injuries on her body hurt too much. She then had a blackout and fainted in his arms.
When the driver saw the girl faint in Mr. James' arms, his hands trembled in fear.
Mr. James was a clean freak and he didn't like women getting close to him.
This girl's clothes were rather dirty. What was worse, she kept moving when lying in Mr. James' embrace. The driver was afraid that Mr. James would throw her out in great anger.
"Mr. James, do I need to stop?" the driver asked nervously.
Looking at this girl's pitiful appearance, the driver couldn't help feeling sorry for her. If she was thrown into a crowded place, maybe a kind-hearted person would save her life.
"Go to the hospital!"
The driver stared at the rearview mirror in astonishment. Mr. James was now rubbing the girl's messy hair with a loving look.
The driver doubted if his eyesight had gone bad since he had been working overtime recently. Did he have an illusion just now?
...
When Kara opened her eyes, she found that she was lying on a hospital bed.
After looking around, she realized there was no one in this luxurious ward.
Recalling that she was in Mr. James' car when fainting, she thought it might be him who took her to the hospital. Did he leave after that?
She let out a disappointed sigh, feeling thirsty. Just as she got up, a sharp pain came from her back.
The pain was so unbearable that she burst into tears.
Gritting her teeth, she slowed down her movements. Just as she got out of bed, the door to the ward was pushed open. She looked up and her eyes met Mr. James' cold brown ones. Kara was pleasantly surprised.
"Uncle James."
Her soft cry was as weak as a kitten's.
James walked to the bedside. Knowing that her back was injured, he helped to adjust her position so that she could be more comfortable.
"What do you want?" he asked briefly.
"I'm thirsty."
Feeling embarrassed, she blushed while saying this.
James looked down at the girl who was half-lying on the bed. Did she want to ask him to pour water for her?
How could that be possible?
James, who had never taken care of anyone before, sneered coldly.
Just as he was about to turn around and call the nurse over, he saw her light-pink cracked lips. Frowning, he headed to the drinking fountain to pour water for her.
Then he handed her the cup of water while standing by the bed expressionlessly.
With a miserable look, the girl almost dropped the cup when holding it with trembling hands.
"Sorry, Uncle James. My back hurts."
Seeing that some water in the cup was spilled on him, Kara apologized in panic.
James took a deep breath to calm himself down. Actually, he softened upon hearing her address him as Uncle James. He bent down and personally fed her water.
Since it was the first time he did this, he was a little clumsy. He held the cup so low that she had to lower her head to drink water.
In this way, James could easily see her beautiful white neck, on which there were a few black fluffy hairs. Narrowing his eyes, he immediately looked away.
She hadn't fully grown, but some of her body parts were already quite attractive.
When the doctor and driver opened the ward door, they saw that Mr. James was taking great care of the girl. To their surprise, he even fed her water with a tender expression. They couldn't believe what they had seen.
Mr. James, president of the SA Group, had never served anyone like this.
With a shocked expression, they left instead of entering the ward, fearing that they might hallucinate.
After Kara drank the water, her throat was no longer that sore. Then she said in a sweet voice, "Uncle James, thank you."
She had seen this handsome man a few years before. The reason why she didn't recognize him at first glance today was that he kept a stern face with an aloof air.
But she had heard from her father that Uncle James was a good person and a trustworthy companion.
Therefore, she trusted him too.
It was as if she had fallen into the deep water and he was her only life-saving floating wood.
James put down the cup and wanted to stand up, but the girl grabbed the corner of his clothes.
"What's up?" he asked in a cold tone.
Kara was so scared that she let go of him. Stealing a glance at him, she saw him wearing a grim expression. Thinking that she was the one who had upset him, she bit her pink lips and didn't dare to utter a single word.
Seeing her timid appearance, James took a deep breath and said, "Your father and I are friends. Since you call me uncle, I'll help you with anything, as long as I could."
The girl stared at him with amber eyes, which were clear and translucent like sparkling gemstones.
Seeing the tumbled hair on her forehead, James resisted the urge to rub her hair.
With a frown, she asked timidly, "Anything?"
"As long as it's within my league."
Kara clenched her fists tightly and thought the whole idea over. Then she mustered up the courage to make a request.
"I ... I want to go to your place."
