Chapter 256 Emergency tention

Chapter 256 Emergency tention
Marvis dropped beside him instantly.
Jerry spun toward Derby, whose face was soaked with tears.
His expression darkened. "What did you do? Why did you push him?"
   Derby recoiled in horror.
"No!" She shook her head frantically. "I didn't push him!
   It was an accident!
   I swear!
   I love him!
   I would never hurt him!"
But neither man was listening. Their entire focus was on Lucas.
Marvis gently supported Lucas's head. "Sir Lucas...Can you hear me?"
   Lucas's eyelids fluttered weakly.
His breathing was shallow. His lips barely moved.
   "My…baby" He whispered hoarsely.
The word had scarcely left his mouth before his body went completely limp. His head rolled to one side.
   Marvis's heart stopped. "Sir Lucas?"
   No response.
Jerry's face was drained of color.
"Oh, no...Please...don't pass out."
   He tapped Lucas's cheek gently.
"Sir! Stay with us!"
    Lucas wasn't even hearing them.
Jerry looked up and shouted at the top of his lungs,
   "Call an ambulance!"
Marvis was already pulling out his phone with shaking hands. His fingers nearly slipped as he dialed the emergency number.
   "Emergency services."
   "My name is Marvis."
"A man has fallen down a flight of stairs. He's unconscious. There may also be a pregnancy involved. We need an ambulance immediately!"
   The operator's voice remained calm.
"Stay on the line. Is he breathing?"
   Marvis quickly checked.
   "Yes, but he's unconscious."
"Help is on the way. Do not move him unless he's in immediate danger. It should arrive within minutes."
Marvis let out a shaky breath.
"Hurry, please."
   The call ended.
Meanwhile, Derby paced helplessly across the room, crying uncontrollably. When she heard that pregnancy was involved, she paused.
The instant the call ended, “What do you mean by pregnancy involved.”
“Sir Lucas is pregnant. Just pray that nothing happens to him and the baby.”
Derby stared at them dumbfounded. Then nearly screamed, “He is a man, I saw his dick. What the heck are…?
“He is a hermaphrodite and he is carrying Alex’s child.”
“What! Oh my goodness…oh my goodness. This can't be happening."
“Just pray nothing happens to them or you will end up in jail.” Marvis put in fearfully.
She buried both hands in her hair.
"I didn't mean it. I didn't push him. Oh, God...please wake him up."
She looked at Lucas lying motionless on the floor and broke down completely yet again.
"Please wake up, Lucas. I didn't know. I'm begging you…please.’
She kept pacing forth and back begging and praying.
Outside, the distant wail of approaching sirens slowly began to pierce the afternoon silence. Inside the house, every second felt like an eternity.
The sound of sirens grew louder with every passing second.
Jerry looked through the front window. "They're here!"
A moment later, the front door burst open as two paramedics and a pair of emergency medical technicians rushed inside carrying a stretcher and trauma bags.
   "Where's the patient?"
   "Over here!" Marvis shouted.
The lead paramedic immediately knelt beside Lucas.
"Male, unconscious after a fall down a staircase," Marvis reported quickly. "He briefly spoke before passing out."
The paramedic nodded.."Did he lose consciousness immediately after the fall?"
"No. He whispered a few words, then blacked out."
Another paramedic checked Lucas's pulse while the first carefully examined his head and neck.
   "Pulse is present."
   "Respirations are shallow."
   "Possible head trauma."
The cervical collar was secured around Lucas's neck before they carefully stabilized him.
The lead paramedic looked at Marvis. "You mentioned a pregnancy?"
   Marvis nodded anxiously.
"Yes. He's approximately three weeks pregnant."
The paramedics exchanged quick glances. "Understood. Move with extreme caution."
Every movement became even more deliberate.
Lucas was gently rolled onto a spinal board before being lifted onto the stretcher.
Derby watched from the corner of the room, tears streaming endlessly down her face.
"I didn't mean for this to happen..."
She whispered over and over.
"I didn't..."
No one answered her. The only sounds filling the room were the clipped medical instructions.
   "Blood pressure dropping slightly.
 Oxygen. Let's move."
The team wheeled Lucas toward the front door.
Outside, the flashing ambulance lights had already attracted attention.
The surveillance officers stationed nearby immediately noticed the emergency vehicle.
One of them frowned. "Why is there an ambulance here?"
His partner looked toward the house. Then the front door opened.
The paramedics hurried out.
Lucas lay motionless on the stretcher. An oxygen mask covered his face. His arms rested limply at his sides.
"Oh, my God..." One officer whispered. "It's Lucas."
The surveillance team rushed toward the ambulance.
   "What happened?"
Marvis climbed in beside the stretcher. "He fell down the stairs."
   The officer's face turned pale.
"Is he alive?"
   "Yes, but he's unconscious."
The ambulance doors slammed shut. The siren wailed again as the vehicle sped away toward the hospital.
For a moment, everyone stood frozen. Then the team leader snapped back to reality. "Call Mr. Benson, now!"
His hands trembled as he dialed Alex's number.
Meanwhile, Alex was reviewing documents in his office when his phone rang. Seeing the surveillance team's number, he answered immediately.
   "Report."
The voice on the other end was strained. "Boss..."
Alex sat upright instantly. "What happened?"
   "Sir…There has been an accident."
   Alex's heart skipped a beat.
   "What accident?"
   "It was at Derby's house."
Alex was already on his feet. His heart raced in fear.
   "Where's Lucas?"
   A brief silence.
  Then…"He fell down the staircase."
   Alex's face lost all color.
"What?"
"He's unconscious, boss. The ambulance has just taken him to St. Mary's Hospital."
"They're treating it as a serious head injury."
Alex couldn't breathe. "No…no…God no" His voice came out as barely a whisper.
"No..." His phone slipped from his trembling fingers and hit the floor with a loud crack.
Thomas and Dan jumped to their feet.
   "Boss?"
Alex stared blankly ahead. His lips trembled.
"Lucas..." His chest tightened painfully. "...fell down the stairs."
The room fell into stunned silence.
Then Alex suddenly exploded into motion. "Get the car!" He shouted.
"Now!"
Without waiting for anyone, he bolted out of the office at full speed.
Thomas and Dan raced after him.
As Alex ran through the corridor, only one thought echoed relentlessly in his mind.
   Please...Not him. Not my baby.
Please let both of them be alive, and alright.
The ambulance doors burst open as it screeched to a stop outside the hospital's emergency entrance.
"Trauma patient coming through!" One of the paramedics called.
Doctors and nurses were already waiting with another hospital gurney.
On the count of three, they carefully transferred Lucas onto it.
"Male patient. Fell down an entire flight of stairs," the lead paramedic reported while walking beside the gurney. "Briefly conscious before losing responsiveness. Possible head injury. Early pregnancy, approximately three weeks."
   The emergency physician nodded.
"Take him to Trauma Room Two."
The gurney disappeared through the swinging doors. Within minutes, the emergency room came alive.
A nurse gently cut away part of Lucas's shirt to attach cardiac monitors to his chest.
Another secured an IV line into his arm.
There was dried blood hidden beneath his hair.
   The doctor frowned thoughtfully.
"We'll need a CT scan of the head immediately."
"What about the pregnancy?" Another doctor asked.
