Chapter 141: You Are My Good Friend

Chapter 141: You Are My Good Friend

James gulped.

For a moment, he thought about yanking out his earplugs.

This was just nuts. James never imagined Aaron's last words would be so terrifying.

"Bad people are bad because they do too many evil things and piss everyone off. But if a good person does bad stuff really cleverly in a short time, they're still seen as good. My plan's simple: go all-in on evil. Hahaha, you know what it means to be in cahoots with the devil? I've nailed playing Aaron. I'll slowly bring his family over to my side, one by one. I run this whole hospital, and I'll shower them with all kinds of perks. Millions, tens of millions, even hundreds of millions... No one can resist that. I know these people. His dad was no good, and his siblings are just as dirty, despicable, shameless, and vile. They'll cling to these perks like misers and think I'm a saint, more lovable than an angel. But they'll never realize it's all invisible poison, slowly eating away at the family until it destroys everything."

"Someone will catch on. Doing too much bad stuff will eventually catch up with you. There will definitely be people in the hospital who report it. One or two whistleblowers won't matter, but a hundred or two hundred will make a difference. By then, it'll be time for me to retire. No one will find me, no one will know where I went. Aaron died years ago; I just borrowed his shell to expose those sinners who should've been dead long ago. I'm a hero, a sanitation worker cleaning up society's tumors. Honestly, the country should give me a banner or a medal."

James's emotions slowly settled. He sighed almost imperceptibly, his eyes staring into the darkness within reach.

Aaron was too extreme.

There are many ways to solve problems. But he chose the most sinful and bloody one.

This is related to personal experiences. Maybe if I were in his shoes, I would use even more extreme methods.

"My friend, I think that's a good term. You made me change my plan. I am a composite of conspiracies, and revenge must be very careful and cautious. When those fat hospital leaders welcomed me, I felt very successful, fooling countless eyes. I warned myself to be more careful, not to let any slight mistake ruin everything. Maybe it was God's arrangement, or maybe God thought I had been crazy in sorrow and pain for too long and needed someone to give me a bit of peace. At that time, I saw you making small moves."

"My sexual orientation is normal, and I have no special fetish for butts. I walk a road full of dangers and traps, and I think you are also someone with a story. So, I was very curious about your little secret. You know the rest. We are allies, partners. If it weren't for the last moment, I might not have considered you a friend."

"Alright, my story is over. Next, I will tell you some things, some secrets."

"You must be very clear about the speed and intensity of this virus's spread. I have studied your blood and found an astonishing number of enhanced cells. I don't know why you became like this, nor do I know what experiences you have had. Maybe you have been lying all along, and the things between you and Dr. Sharp were all made up to fool me... but that doesn't matter. You provided your blood, and that's the real point."

"You can evolve! You can also purify! You can become stronger and also affect others. James, the composition of your blood is very special. I have never seen it in anyone else, nor did I know humans could have such a strange distribution combination. In general, the enhanced cells in your body need some kind of energy. I don't mean energy from food, not protein, not sugar, nor the things needed to control cellular mitochondria. The specific part needs further research. But I don't have time; this work can only be done by you."

The word "bio-nutrition" popped into James's mind. He marveled at Aaron's powerful research ability; his knowledge and understanding were indeed excellent. If it weren't for the mysterious person on the internet explaining it, James would never have known these things. But Aaron was different; he got results through research and observation, understanding everything.

"I can whip up an immune serum. I'm already on the right track. If you had told me all this sooner and given me your blood earlier, we could've saved a lot of time. But hey, it's not too late now. I've got detailed formulas and complete research data. Anyone can make the serum if they follow my method."

"Sounds tempting, right? Let me guess, you're probably in a safe spot now, with those terrifying man-eating monsters everywhere outside, huh?"

"I have no clue why this virus popped up out of nowhere. That black patient you mentioned is likely one of many sources. Don't get too excited; I don't know more about this than you do. I'm just guessing based on intuition and research. You know, nothing happens in a vacuum. There's always some secret or connection behind everything. Maybe it's power, wealth, or something else... But one thing's for sure: once this virus breaks out, it's gonna wreck the whole world."

"I'm really glad I met you in the end. I'm saying all this as a precaution. I don't wanna die; we have a lot in common. Remember that night we first met in the basement? After seeing Dr. Sharp, you took me to the night market outside the hospital. There were BBQ ribs, grilled beef, sausages, and baked potatoes. We each had a bottle of beer, drinking slowly. You were wary of me, and I was cautious of you. But that night, I felt genuinely happy. It's just a shame we'll never have that chance again."

"If you're hearing this recording, it means I'm already dead."

"I really didn't want you to get it."

"Right now, you probably need the immune serum the most. But I bet you don't understand what this serum really means for you."

That last bit was vague and weird. James frowned and hit the pause button.

He needed to think, to piece together all of Aaron's last words. But after more than ten minutes, James still couldn't figure out the hidden meaning.

He hit play again.

"I bet you're really puzzled now, just because of my last sentence."

Aaron's voice was full of pride and teasing: "I'm not gonna give you the answer easily. Knowing too much too soon won't do you any good. Alright! Let's get back to the immune serum. You need to go to my office and turn on the computer on the desk. Then, answer the questions I left."

James sat up straight. He paused the recording again, closed his eyes, thought for a dozen seconds, then rewound a bit to listen again.

Aaron's instructions were crystal clear. Especially the part about entering the office and turning on the computer.

"You're probably wondering why I want you to do this?"

Aaron's last words were full of confusing elements: "Trust me, I won't harm you. This recorder is too small; there are some things I can't store, and only a computer can handle it. Forget the story I told before! That has nothing to do with what I'm telling you now. Remember, the hospital office, and the computer. Almost forgot, if there's chaos or some unexpected disaster, you have two ways to turn on the computer. First, take the mainframe or memory stick and escape, find other parts in a safe place, and make the computer work again. Second, if there's a power outage, I have a battery in the office closet. Just plug it in and it will work. Don't tell me you can't even figure out the positive and negative symbols on the power source."

James felt like a terrible worm was gnawing at his thoughts, urging him to go to the hospital director's office immediately.

Aaron's serious and earnest voice came from the recorder: "This is crucial. You must do as I ask. I'm not omnipotent, but I know most human behavior needs some kind of incentive. My friend, as long as you comply, you'll get more of what you want. You can get the immune serum formula and the serum I've already prepared. Now, you're the key to opening the door. Push the door open hard and get everything you want."

"I'll always be with you. Go to the office! You'll know more."

The recording ended there.

After that, there was the same electric current sound as at the beginning.

James silently stared into the darkness in front of him, his eyes filled with melancholy and confusion.
