Chapter 94 Well Chris, Congratulations on Winning the Bid
Chapter 94 Well Chris, Congratulations on Winning the Bid
"Really?"
Otto was quite surprised that Elsie would think this way. "Go ahead, tell me what I'm thinking."
Chris also got interested and looked at Elsie with mock seriousness, his eyes full of appreciation.
"I heard that the Morgan family used to do artifact appraisal and auctions underground. A while back, someone from our company approached the Morgan family wanting to discuss a partnership."
When Elsie said this, Otto glanced deliberately at Rhett sitting beside him.
As if remembering something that put him in a bad mood, he made a sound through his nose as acknowledgment.
"Then I looked into the Morgan family's background. The Morgan family has always been in the shipping business. Although it's highly profitable, Emerald City, as a coastal city, is rife with hidden reefs, posing significant shipping risks. If I were part of the Morgan family, I would definitely be thinking about how to expand the money I've made into new industries."
"Next, I looked at the Morgan family's business performance over recent years - it doesn't look like you're short on cash."
"So, I believe what Mr. Morgan values isn't how much money that batch of artifacts you happened to acquire can make, but rather that you want to try entering the artifact auction industry. After all, you've already tried underground auctions before but didn't continue, which I'm guessing is due to a lack of relevant experience. And what you need, what you're missing - PAT Marketing Company has it all."
Otto was somewhat surprised.
He seemed to see another Elsie being reborn.
"Very thorough thinking, excellent presentation skills. The Wilson Group is lucky to have someone like you."
"I'm a businessman, not an entrepreneur. I don't have such long-term goals. Money - I make what I can. So... I think what the Wilson family is offering is still too little."
Just when Elsie didn't know what to do.
Otto suddenly shouted, "Daniel, have you eavesdropped enough out there? What a waste of your height, acting so sneaky. Come in and sit down. I'm officially telling you - the price your Wilson family is offering, I'm not satisfied!"
As he spoke.
Daniel appeared at the office door.
Elsie's anxious heart finally settled.
She almost wanted to cry, having just endured such tremendous pressure.
A perfectly good contract negotiation meeting had turned into a bidding war - clearly going to the highest bidder.
Thank goodness Daniel showed up!
"This is probably the first time in decades someone from the Wilson family has come to the Morgan family's office, right? Not easy. Sit down."
Daniel nodded and sat down next to Elsie. His first words were:
"What Elsie said is fine."
"If the Morgan family were really that short-sighted, they would have been swallowed up by the Wilson family long ago and wouldn't have lasted until today. Do you think the Wilsons are all idiots?"
After he said this, Chris's expression became somewhat uncomfortable, and he instinctively looked toward Otto.
The moment Otto and Chris's eyes met, Daniel keenly caught it.
"Hey Daniel, just because you can't win the bid, you don't have to put down Mr. Morgan. Can't outspend our Diaz family, so now you're making it about values? How the Morgan family does business - is that for you to manage?"
Chris said unhappily, rattling off a string of words.
He was basically saying, "If you don't have money, don't come here, embarrassing yourself - the Diaz family is taking this job."
"Really?"
Daniel was completely unmoved and stood up:
"Well then, Chris, congratulations on winning the bid. I'll personally offer my congratulations at your celebration."
With that, he prepared to turn and leave.
Elsie didn't understand why Daniel was doing this and could only stand up to follow.
She suddenly thought of a common bargaining tactic, 'When haggling with street vendors, if you can't agree on a price, you turn and walk away, and vendors who can't hold their nerve will call you back, saying they'll do it at your price.'
But Otto wasn't some short-sighted street vendor with poor self-control.
Otto had good reasons to give up on the Wilson family - he could get better terms from the Diaz family.
Would this really work?
"Daniel, sit down. You win."
Otto's hearty laughter rang out.
Wait, when a vendor calls someone back, shouldn't they sound frustrated and angry?
Why did Otto seem so happy?
Just as Elsie was confused, Chris's awkward laughter sounded:
"Alright, I give up. Daniel, congratulations on your success. You have to invite me to your celebration - I'll definitely bring my congratulations."
Now Elsie understood.
The Diaz family never intended to participate in this project from the start.
From Chris's high-profile announcement about stealing the Wilson family's project to that chance encounter in the lobby that day, it was all deliberately orchestrated by Chris to constantly pressure the Wilson family and create a sense of urgency.
And this meeting, which was supposed to be a contract negotiation, turned into a bidding discussion when the Diaz family joined, and by the time Elsie arrived at the office, it had become an actual bidding war.
All to keep forcing the Wilson family to offer better and better terms.
This was all a setup by Otto and Chris from the beginning.
"Elsie, don't look at me like that. I told you, business is like war. Okay, I was forced into it, too."
Chris raised his hands in surrender, smiling bitterly:
"My dad's orders - the Wilson family and Morgan family's cooperation will definitely need financial services, and he told me I had to land this contract. That's why I found Mr. Morgan..."
"Daniel, I wasn't deliberately trying to screw you over. I gave you hints - that day in the lobby, I said the three families should work together, but you didn't respond. And Mr. Morgan wasn't satisfied with the price. Seeing you were about to sign the contract, I had no choice but to find a way to stop your signing process temporarily."
Elsie thought back carefully - Chris did say that that day.
But Chris had zero credibility with her, full of crooked schemes and bad ideas. Who knows if he was just making excuses for himself now?
Daniel responded with a sound.
Acknowledging Chris's explanation.
Otto sighed helplessly, glanced at Rhett beside him, who looked like he'd seen a ghost, and said irritably, "What's the big deal? You're scared like this, and you're almost nineteen..."
Then, thinking of something, he waved his hand: "You young people handle your own affairs. I'm saying this upfront - when the family gives you trouble later, don't come looking for me."
"Daniel, you win. Let's go with the contract terms from the day before yesterday - twenty million, 2% equity."
"No."
Daniel said flatly.
Otto frowned. Was Daniel going to push his advantage?
"Go with the proposal Elsie just gave you. Since it was said, let's do it that way."
Daniel said.
"This is my attitude and sincerity."
This sentence, Daniel said to Rhett.
Rhett's face lit up with joy. He nodded vigorously, and sitting beside Otto, he unconsciously straightened his back.
"Look at you... acting like you accomplished something amazing. There'll be plenty of trouble ahead."
Otto complained a couple of times, rolled his eyes at Rhett, and clapped his hands:
"Well then, I announce - the first collaboration between the Morgan family and the Wilson family officially begins! Let's hope this is a good sign!"
