Chapter 83 Look How Scared You Are
Chapter 83 Look How Scared You Are
Kai slammed his hand on the table.
He was clearly angry!
"Foolish!"
Jada and Veda jumped in fright.
Jada secretly shot Veda a reproachful look, as if to say they should have quit while they were ahead. Why did she have to push her luck? Now they were done for.
She thought they'd been saved this time, but now both of them would face Kai's anger together.
Seriously, why bring up that bitch Elsie!
But what Kai said next really surprised Jada.
"You're just too soft-hearted."
Kai sighed and pointed at Jada, "Jada here, she's a bit simple, but she doesn't have bad intentions and isn't very calculating."
Then his tone shifted to anger, "But what about Elsie? She usually acts all weak and fragile. I knew about her crush on Daniel, but could the Thomas family ever reach the Wilson family's level? Who would've thought she'd do something as disgusting as drugging someone! She nearly dragged the Thomas family into complete ruin. A daughter like that—keeping her around would only bring disaster!"
Kai got more worked up, "Was I wrong to kick her out? But what does she do? She even changed her last name! Not only did she do something shameless and dirty, but she also turned her back on me as her father and on the Thomas family. What use is a daughter like that to me?"
"From now on, no one is allowed to mention bringing Elsie back home. She and I have nothing to do with each other!"
With that, he started coughing violently.
Seeing this, Veda, who was standing behind Jada, quickly ran to the sofa and sat down, patting Kai's back to help him catch his breath. She said reproachfully, "Fine, fine, you're in charge of this family. I won't mention Elsie anymore. Just don't get angry all the time. See? Your old problem is acting up again."
Kai glanced at Veda, his eyes full of tenderness, and grumbled, "I'd be grateful if you two would just stop causing me trouble."
At that moment, Jada, still kneeling on the floor, said quietly, "But Dad, I heard that Elsie's job at PAT Marketing Company was arranged by Daniel. Do you think Daniel might be because..."
Before she could finish, Kai, whose expression had just softened a bit, glared at Jada and snapped, "Shut up!"
Jada trembled all over.
"When did kids get to decide family marriages? Elsie thought it was so simple back then—sleep with Daniel one night, get pregnant, and she could marry into the Wilson family and live the rich life. You need to understand that the Wilson family doesn't allow illegitimate children to exist. The Wilson family's methods—how many illegitimate children have been quietly eliminated over the years?"
"You think just any child can inherit the Wilson family business? Dream on!"
Suddenly thinking of something, he looked coldly at Jada, "Jada, I'm warning you not to get any ideas, or you'll end up just like Elsie. The Wilson family is beyond the Thomas family's reach. Having a business relationship with them is good enough!"
"You don't need to go to the office this afternoon. Tonight, take that painting hanging in my study and personally go to Ronan's house to apologize. Ronan has had his eye on those antiques for a long time. We'll give them to him this time."
Veda quickly said, "But honey, that painting is your favorite..."
"No need to say more. We can offend anyone except the Wilson family. That's settled. Jada, go rest now."
Seeing that things were resolved, Jada quickly left.
Veda sat on the sofa, gently massaging Kai's shoulders.
Kai closed his eyes, clearly enjoying it.
Veda was now completely relieved. It seemed Ronan hadn't told Elsie about other matters—he'd only mentioned Elsie's job at PAT Marketing Company.
Her earlier act of magnanimously suggesting that Elsie return to the Thomas family as the lady of the house was actually a test of Kai's attitude. Clearly, Kai's opinion of Elsie hadn't changed.
"Honey."
"What is it?"
"What if Elsie really gets together with Daniel while she's out there? Would that affect the Thomas family..."
Veda trailed off.
Kai, eyes still closed, sighed, "Veda, you know Jada's thinking is terribly simple..."
"That's what I'm saying. I'm also worried she'll be used by others..."
Veda jumped in, ready to speak up for Jada.
"I'm not worried about that. Jada's simple thinking has its advantages—she won't cause major disasters. She's not like you, her mother, with hidden meanings in everything you say, testing even your own husband with your words..."
Kai said coldly.
Veda felt like she'd fallen into an ice pit. If Kai's eyes weren't closed, he would surely have seen her panicked expression. "I... what am I testing?"
"You think too much and are too calculating. I understand you—you weren't valued by your family growing up, so you worry about everything. But your heart isn't bad."
When Kai brought up the past, Veda's tears fell. When they were young, they were kindred spirits, both overlooked by their families. But later, Kai took over the Thomas family and met Veda, and they shared genuine feelings born from shared hardship.
"Why bring up all that after so many years?"
Veda said emotionally.
Kai smiled slightly and didn't continue.
"Tell Wren to be more restrained at the Wilson Group from now on. Ronan's call today seemed to be about Jada, but it was really about Wren. If Wren weren't so indulgent, Min wouldn't act out. Tell her to be more careful."
"Okay, honey, I'll definitely pass that along."
"Good."
"Though sometimes I feel like Elsie is your real daughter, and simple-minded Jada is more like Mia's."
Suddenly thinking of something, Kai drew in a breath and laughed:
"You don't think you were the one who gave her the idea to drug Daniel back then, do you?"
Veda's face turned ugly!
By now, Kai had opened his eyes and smiled slightly:
"Look how scared you are. I'm just joking. How could you do something like that?"
He stood up, patted Veda, and sighed, "Teach Jada well. She can't go down the wrong path."
"I have a conference call. I'll go take care of it."
Veda nodded woodenly, watching Kai walk into his study. Only then did she let out a long breath, feeling relieved.
She never expected Kai to think that far.
Nor did she expect that her disguise in front of Kai all these years had actually been seen through long ago.
But why hadn't Kai exposed her?
She naturally understood—it must be because of Kai's feelings for her.
What if one day Kai learned she was the mastermind behind the scenes three years ago?
What if one day Kai learned that she'd once had a relationship with Roy, the man from the church near the villa where Kai's former wife Mia lived?
But she wouldn't worry about that.
Because only Elsie knew about this in the world.
And Elsie wouldn't voluntarily reveal it, because she already knew—Elsie had killed Roy.
This was her final card to threaten Elsie. At worst, they'd all go down together.
Thinking of this, Veda finally felt at ease.
