"Push harder!"
"Ah!" accompanied by Anna's painful cry, the baby cried out.
The doctors exclaimed excitedly, "It's born, it's a boy!"
"Just as handsome as Mr. Vittorio!"
Anna Stefanelli lay weakly on the bed, her face pale, looking at the child. Her face glowed with happiness, looking at the bundle of joy in front of her. But a certain dread was filled in her features.
The child was small like a kitten, with fair skin and a loud cry. He truly inherited Giorgio Vittorio's extraordinary appearance. Babies were seldom so beautiful, but looking at him, you could tell he had inherited his fathers’ beauty.
She smiled and wanted to reach out and hold the child.
But...
"Sister, thank you for giving birth to my child, I'll take him." A beautiful woman suddenly took the child before Anna could even touch him and lay him on a small crib beside the bed.
Under the light, her face was exactly the same as Anna's! They were twins!
Anna hadn't even had a chance to touch him yet, but she watched as her sister took the child away, listening to the cries of the child.
Her heart ached, "Sister, I... I want to keep the child.”
"What?" Katherine Stefanelli was shocked, as if hearing a fantasy from another world. She looked at Anna incredulously for a full three seconds before saying, "Anna, do you know what you're saying? You're only 18, single, how are you going to explain the child to everyone? Do you want everyone to know that you slept with Giorgio, disappoint our parents, and bring shame to our entire family? Or do you want the child to become a scorned illegitimate child? Do you know how the mafia treats women like you? And the children? We’ve spoken about this," she went on, “As my and Giorgio’s child, he will grow up to be Don, like his father. If you claim him, he will be nothing but scum.”
With each word, Anna's pale face grew even paler. Her sister was right, of course. She knew how the mafia worked. At least, she knew now.
She had grown up in the countryside and was only brought back last year. She accidentally had a relationship with Giorgio, her sister's fiancé, and gotten pregnant. Accidentally had a relationship was hard to explain. They had hooked up. And it had been her fault.
The resemblance between Anna and Katherine was uncanny. They shared every single feature, even the texture of their skin. It was impossible to tell them apart, unless you knew them very well. Hell, even their parents got confused sometimes.
Girorgio hadn’t known that she existed, he thought she was her sister, and she didn't dare to tell him. She had loved him since she had first laid eyes on him. And she had thought, it is just one night. One innocent kiss, that had eventually grown into something else, something more. And it wouldn’t matter. Nothing would happen.
But the guilt was eating her up now. Sure, Katherine had treated her terribly since the beginning. But she was still her sister. How could she have done this to her?
For these nine months, her sister had been the one ‘pregnant’, her sister was the one giving birth to Giorgio's child!
If she revealed it now, everyone would scorn her, and then…
The light in Anna's eyes grew dimmer and dimmer.
Katherine placed her hand on Anna's shoulder and consoled her, "Good sister, the child is with me. He is the legitimate future leader of the Vittorio family. I will treat him as my own and raise him together with Giorgio. You just go back to the countryside and never come back. I'm doing this for you, for the baby. Behave."
With those words, she glanced at the doctors.
The doctors took out a syringe.
Anna looked at them in surprise, "Sister, what is this?"
Katherine said, "Don't be afraid, it's a painkiller. Rest well, sleep, and everything will be over."
As she spoke, the doctors injected the syringe into Anna's body.
Anna's body grew weak, her consciousness gradually fading.
She was pushed behind the curtain by the doctors.
While Katherine and the child were pushed out...
Outside the delivery room, a tall, coldly handsome man arrived.
He was wearing a suit and looked sophisticated. Every feature on his face was well-defined, and his legs were long and straight. He exuded a strong sense of mature and restrained masculinity. The kind of man women desired and other men looked up to. Powerful and enigmatic. He had to be.
Giorgio had become the Boss of the Vittoria family only five years ago, but he had come into his role with such grace and command, it had been clear from day one he was meant to do this. If his father had been a good leader, he was ten times the man.
Katherine's eyes lit up when she saw him, "Giorgio, you're here."
Thinking of something, she immediately touched the baby in her arms and weakly said, "This is our baby. I... had such a difficult time giving birth, almost died from the pain. But Giorgio, I'm so happy to have your baby. Giorgio, for the sake of our child, can you not break our engagement?"
A year ago, Giorgio insisted on breaking the engagement. He did not love Katherine. He had known her for so long. Tried for so many years. But could not.
He wanted to break the engagement.
Katherine did not. The child was now her only chance to become Mrs. Vittorio.
Giorgio's dignified gaze fell on the baby, and he remembered the rudeness and cruelty forced upon her during their encounter on that mission night.
"Alright, we'll get married tomorrow."
