Aria's POV
The tension in the room had thickened as I stared at her speechless.
"What? You don't have anything to say anymore?"
"It is complicated, Lyra," I mumbled. She should direct her anger towards her brother, why am I the one on the receiving end?
"You know my brother is a douche but I expected more from you. I guess that's why it hurt me, you should have come to me the day you found out and he didn't do anything about it"
"And then you would try to talk to him? Make him want me?" I asked, trying to keep my emotions out of my voice but I was failing terribly.
"No...it's nothing like that" she stammered, her eyes dropping.
"Exactly, that's the problem. How was I supposed to tell you that I found out your brother ended up being the mate I have always wanted but he doesn't want me yet he won't reject me? That is just some toy to him" I whispered my voice cracking at the end.
I hated talking about Kael.
I hate how he makes me feel, I hate how all of this makes me feel. I hate how I can't even be strong enough to do what is safe for me.
"Oh Aria," She said softly walking over to me as a stray tear escaped my eyes. The anger in her eyes had disappeared now replaced with something I hated even more....pity.
"Please, I am not some charity case. He may not want me but it's not the end of the world, I don't need your pity" I spat irritated. I feel pitied, like some worthless she-wolf. I am more than that.
"Of course, you are not a charity case. It's nothing you I pity, it is Kael" She stated, her voice sincere.
I raised my head to look at her and she took that as her cue to go on, " He has no idea what he is sleeping on. You are an angel, Aria and don’t let anyone make you think otherwise especially not my brother"
I beamed at her, "Kael is being foolish, and trust me he will find that out soon I just hope it is not too late. It just hurt that you didn't trust me with such information. He may be a brother but I would never be on his side when he is wrong"
"Thank you, Lyra. I just didn't want to talk about it or even talk about it. It's easier that way" I admitted.
"I want us to be really good friends Arja and that means being there for each other. I need you to know I will always be here for you, you just have to let me" Her voice was so soft as she wrapped her hands around me. A hug I didn’t even realize how much I needed until now.
"Thank you so much Lyra" I muffled with my face buried in her shirt, letting myself bask in the feeling. With Lev angry at me, loneliness has been a good company, thus is a beautiful feeling. So for once, I let myself lean into someone without having to feel weak.
I rang the doorbell at the home place I have always loved to be in but it felt foreign today.
"The door is open" Bethany's ever-sweet voice yelled from inside. I took a deep breath before pushing the door open.
"Ri" she giggled excitedly as she walked over to me pulling me in for a tight hug. I sighed taking in her relaxing scent, fighting with Lev also means less of Bethany and Vicky and that’s a lot.
"Hlw are you, Bethany?" I asked as we pulled away, keeping a smile plastered on my face.
"I should be asking you that, I haven't seen you since that afternoon and you left without saying a word. Lev has been a shadow of himself ever since, but he won't tell what happened between you both. Hopefully, now you are here, you could help me" She rushed pity pulling me further into the house.
"There is nothing wrong, Bethany," I lied.
There is no need to saddle her with Lev and I's problems, we should be able to handle ourselves.
"That's not true, Aria. Lev only acts this way when he is really upset and right now you are the one who has that kind of power over him"
"I just need to talk to him, I promise everything will be fine, just him in? " I asked purposely avoiding her question.
The power I have over Lev is part of the problems we are having now, if he were just more understanding.
"Yes he is" she sighed, her eyes dropping.
"He is in his room, he has been there all day," she added.
"Thank you, Bethany"
She nodded watching me as I headed upstairs a faraway look in her eyes. Lev would not like it if I had told her anything so it just has to be this way.
After a little pep talk, I finally pushed myself to knock.
To my surprise the door flung open, revealing a very disheveled-looking Lev, it was like he was already waiting for me.
I froze as his eyes raked me so slowly like he was committing to memory and without any warning he pulled me in for a very tight hug, my heart warmed.
"Hey," I whispered into his neck, hugging him back.
"I have missed you" he whispered back his nose buried into my neck taking in my scent.
He lifted me off the ground and carried me into the room shutting the door behind him.
He carefully dropped me on the bed giving me the chance to take in his appearance. Bloodshot eyes, sunken face...he looked really bad.
"I am sorry" I mumbled as he joined me on the bed pulling me to him burying his face back into my neck.
"Please, let's just stay like this. We could talk later" he pleaded, his voice cracking at the end.
"Whatever you want," I said softly, playing with his hair the way he loved. Something else is up with him and I am going to find out what.
