Fifty six- Borrowed Time

Fifty six- Borrowed Time
Kael's POV

"You aren't going to school today again?" Lyra asked, strolling into my room.

"No, I need to rest," I answered without giving her any explanation.

How do I tell my sister that my wolf took over and gave our mate that I am not even sure I want the best oral sex she may ever have, and now I am weak as hell from his takeover? And also a small part of me doesn't want to to see Her.

"You need to rest?" She repeated, staring at me like I had grown a second head. It is not every day you hear such from me especially with the howl games coming up.

"Yeah," I shrugged.

"Whatever. Tell this flimsy excuse of yours to Dad, I am off"

She is still very angry with me and she isn’t holding back in letting me know.

“Just let me know if anything urgent comes up” I requested before she could leave.

“Ask your mate to do that” She shot back before walking out shutting my room door back. I sighed in anger and frustration with everything that was happening.

‘This is all your fault’ I snapped at Drax, tired of the silence between us. He doesn’t seem to be fazed by my silent treatment so lashing out will have to do.

I was met with silence which only fueled my anger even more.

‘DRAX’ I called out even louder, losing my cool.

‘If you are here to blame me for your issue with Lyra too then you'd better stay as silent as you have been since yesterday’ Drax finally said, his voice irritated and bored.

‘And you think that isn’t your fault too?’ I jabbed.

‘You are even more ignorant than I thought’ He sighed leaving before I could respond to him. Fucking wolf… I have to do something about my control over him or things are going to get bad.

"Mum" I called out knocking twice on her door before pushing it open.

She lay in bed her eyes fixed on the television screen hung on the wall deeply engrossed in whatever rom-com she was watching. I don't know why but she looks brighter than she has in days, if only that meant she was feeling better.

"How are you today,Mum?" I asked as I walked further into her room.

"Alive as always" she answered still fixated on her movie.

"Has your afternoon drug been administered to you yet?" I asked noticing the full bottle of water by her bedside.

"Yes Rosaline brought it with my food" she responded, her eyes following mine. She sighed in undedtanding at nh question noticing the bottle.

"I requested for a new one,the one you dropped here in the morning finished"

"You finished a whole bottle of water and it isn't even 1pm yet?" I asked shocked. She always finds it difficult taking anything down her throat without any aid.

"I was quite suprised myself but I guess am feeling more energetic than I usually do" She sounded it too.

A flicker of hope I denied myself having lit in my heart, "Does this mean there is hope?" I asked unable yo hold myself.

"Kael" She sighed,Sadness filling her eyes. She didnt need to continue for me to knkw what was coming next.

"You already know this, there is no way out for me"

I hated those words,so damn much but she wouldn’t stop saying them. There is always hope as long she is still here, breathing and fighting.

"Stop saying that,Mum. There must be a way out,I know it" I argued not willing to accept. I didn’t give up then and I won't give up now either.

"This is a curse that has killed many,my case won't be any different. I have even lived longer that expected,I am practically living on borrowed life now. You have to come to terms with it my child, please"

"No Mum,I can’t, i just can't"

Tears threatened to fall from my eyes as I watched her, shoulders slumped, eyes hollow. No matter how bright she might be looking the sickness will always be evident. How does he even live with himself knowing this is all his fault? How can he even wake up everyday and still rule a pack when the woman that was destined to be with him is slowly dieing off and yet everyone keeps asking me to forgive myself so that i can forgive him, I rather remain this way.

"Kael" She called out again, her voice suddenly sounding weaker. Regret hit me as I watched her, I should have more controls over my emotions when speaking with her.

"I ak sorry, mum" I applogized going over to her side.

"You don't need to apologize my child,I undertand your anger and I hope someday you would be able to heal from this" she sighed.

" I don't think I would ever be able to heal from tge fact that I had to watch you slowly die in such a painful death for no reason,it should be him going through all this and not you" I voiced out.

"Don't speak like that,Kael" She reprimanded.

"I am only saying the truth"

She simply looked at me with disapproval in her eyes not bothering to respond to me.

"Why aren't you in school?" She asked changing the topic.

"Didn't feel like it" I answered smoothly.

"You knkw better than thag,Kael"

This is why you can’t lie to a mother who knows you so well.

"Fine,I am really exhausted and just need to rest. I will go tomorrow"

“And when did you start getting tired when you have done nothing?”

There is no way she is expecting me to tell her why I am this exhausted.

“What did Drax do this time?” She askedbefore I could even repsond. Fucking bigmouth of mine.

“He just took over for too long but I will be fine” I shrugged it off. Mum is the only one that I have told about Drax’s growing strength nowadays, she did her best to assure me things wouldn’t get to the point where it threatens anything or anyone in my life but a part of me can’t help but still feel it would.

“He is getting restless,Kael. He needs her and you do too”

“I am fine and he is fine too” I argued. We don’t need a mate and everyone needs to understand, why will the moon goddess saddle us with someone’s life in such a manner and expect us comfortably take it up? Unlike my father I won’t be able to live with the guilt if something goes wrong.

“Kael, you are my child and I know you are nothing like your father”

“That’s the problem, I may not be like him but hwat if I am even worse” I murmured casting my eyes down at the words I said but it was only the truth. What if I don’t even feel any remorse? What if I do it with my clear eyes? Alot can go wrong and they can all be avoided.

“Then why don’t you just reject her and save her the heartache?” Her words shook me. How can she even ask that.

“How can you even say that Mum?”

“What else were you expecting me to say? You don’t want her then let her go, the pain would eventually heal to a dull ache but constantly seeing you but not having you, trust me that is rejection a hundred times over and over” I could see her struggling to keep up with the conversation and I knew today’s talk was over.

“Mum, we would continue this some other time you need to sleep” I concluded not even waiting to talk any more about Her, I know how right Mum is but I can’t let her go,I just can’t.

‘Then you fucking do right by her’ Drax shot up.

‘You better remain as quiet as you have been since today’ I warned, irritated at his recent attitudes. We used to agree on virtually everything but these days he has an issue with everything.

“You cannot keep avoiding this,Kael” Her eyes were already dropping reminding just why I have to keep avoiding all of this.

“I am not avoiding anything Mum, I just need you to rest that’s all” I reached behind and adjusted her pillows, I lifted her and placed her down slowly so she could lie in a more comfortable position.

“Please take iy easy on yourself,Kael and on her too. That is all I ask” Mum whispered already half asleep.

“I will,Mum” I sighed placing a kiss to her forhead. So much for a conversation and this is what she wants me to comfortable with.

‘In as much as I hate your guts right now, ther is something you need to see right now’ Lyra’s voice piped up in my head.

‘Whta’s wrong,Lyra?’ I asked ignoring the sass in her voice, I deserve it all anyways.

‘You have to come over here and see for yourself’ She insisted. The seriousness and hint of anger in her voice told me she wasn’t bluffing and she woulfn’t say a word.

‘Fine,I am on my way’ I sighed. Taking one last glance at Mum who was already fast asleep,I headed for the one place I have been avoiding for two days now.
