Forty three- Bound By Lies
Forty three- Bound By Lies
Kael's POV
"She is your mate?" Lyra flinched back like I had just hit her. Shock and anger in her eyes but I didn't miss the hurt that was hidden behind it all.
"Lyra..." I called out but she didn't seem to be having it.
"She has been your mate all this time? When did you find out?" She asked, shaking her head furiously like she couldn't believe her ears.
"It's not what..."
"When did you fucking find out, Kael?" She spat, the silver in her eyes returning.
"The day I came back to the Academy" I quickly answered not wanting her in my head again.
Her eyes watched me in disbelief and a hint of disgust, "You have known since then and you didn't even say a word...you have stayed put while Marissa and her stupid friends bully her for nothing" She accused. The pain in her voice confused me, why is she acting like she is the one being hurt?
"I have not been quiet. I help her in my own little way" I defended but her next actions stunned me to my very core. Her hand landed across my cheeks, slapping me so hard my cheeks stung.
Drax growled at the disrespect, the alpha in him pushing for control.
"You are not even ashamed to tell me you are protecting your mate in your 'own little way' as you put it" she spat without a care in the world. Her reaction was starting to get to me and it wouldn't be funny if I lost control.
"Watch your tone, Lyra" I warned, low and dangerous, doing my best to keep Drax at ease. Her eyes eased up a bit, a flash of regret in them but they disappeared almost immediately replaced by her determination.
The air between us cracked, Drax paced beneath my skin itching for control, but I didn't let him. Not with her. Not when I know how right she really is.
"Does she even know?" Lyra asked but the look in her eyes told me she already suspected it.
"Of course she does, she found out that night at the club"
"I knew something was up that night I just couldn’t tell, no wonder you were so against going for her birthday" she reasoned, her eyes focused as she put the dots together.
"So you knew like days before her and you didn't say a word, you weren't even bothered" she jabbed.
"I never said I wasn't" I shot back.
"It is obvious you aren't. Why exactly hasn't she rejected your sorry ass?" Lyra stabbed.
Drax’s patience was wearing thin, "That's if I would let her" I bit back.
"It is obvious you don't want her but you wouldn't let her go either?"
"I don't remember telling you I didn't want her"
"If this is how an Alpha who wants his mate behaves then I would rather be mated to a rogue" Lyra spat her words hitting hard. A rogue is the worst of the worst and she just had to pick one.
"Lyra, watch your fucking tone" I warned again.
"You know what, I can’t even stay in the same space with you anymore. You can drive yourself home, I will find my way" she shot grabbing her bag.
"Lyra you'd better sit your ass down here," I said through clenched teeth but she didn't even pay any heed to me, she opened the door and stepped out banging the door closed.
Before I could come down she had already shifted into her wolf and took off towards the nearest woods. Something she usually does only when she needs space and wants to think.
I just keep hurting everyone including myself. Lyra has always trusted that I would never lie to her, hence why she has always stayed out of my head. As a truth witch, the truth is all she ever wants, it is like a part of her. One of the cons of being one is the pain that comes with lies and finding out that I have been lying to her must hurt ten times worse.
'In as much I don't totally agree with Lyra’s way of expressing herself, she is totally right' Drax piped up in my head.
'Please I don't need this now' I responded, sighing softly.
'You need to hear the truth, it is fully understandable to want to protect her but you are going about it the wrong way and things will only get worse'
'Then let me decide, Drax. You just have to stay put and let me'
'Unlike you, I want you to get to know her, to know her wolf and your holding back is affecting me too' he argued.
'You just have to be patient, if she is really the right then all will work out'
'She is our freaking mate, the moon goddess would never give us someone who isn't right for us' he shot in an exasperated voice.
'Lyra was just angry, she would understand my reasons for all of this soon'
'Your invalid reasons?' He jabbed.
'You know what, just shut up Drax. I am not having this conversation with' I dismissed pushing him to the back of my head as I stopped in my tracks staring at the huge mahogany door in front of me.
