Chapter 95 See you soon
While Alec was in Aurora’s house, sneakingly looking for clues about what her next evil agenda was, her landline rang.
He furrowed his brows as he walked up to her bedside table and answered the phone. He remained quiet and waited for the person from the other end to speak.
“Anita, it’s done. When do we come for the balance? He’s not going to survive it, that’s for sure.”
Because he couldn’t answer, he hung up and hastily walked out of the room.
“He is not going to survive it? What have you done, Anita!”
He got out of the house and left, making sure he wasn’t seen. Driving to his house, he couldn’t help but wonder what had happened.
He feared that Arthur was in great danger, and he wasn’t sure what to do if that was the case.
Getting to his house, he turned on the television and drew his phone out of his pocket. He sat on the couch and began to search for news channels.
He believed if it was Arthur, the news would carry it because of the influence he has in society.
He passed through a few and he saw nothing like that, until he almost gave up and it suddenly popped up in the headlines.
“Early this morning, around 7:30 a.m, the rich and famous businessman Arthur Howard and his three sons were involved in an accident on Runtle Street. He drove his BMW car into a Van which happened to be parked in the middle of the road, out of nowhere…”
“Anita, what have you done?! With the kids too?! I fking told you to stay away from her kids!” Alec yelled in anger and went ahead to call Anita.
Her phone rang several times and she refused to answer. He couldn’t pay attention to the news anymore.
He stopped trying to contact her and instead, he went on Twitter. Surprisingly, Arthur’s accident was beginning to trend. And luckily, he was able to find out the hospital he was admitted to with the boys.
He couldn’t control the fear in him when he saw how crushed the front of Arthur’s car was.
“I swear, Anita. This shall be your last!” He couldn’t help but imagine the pain Aurora was going to experience when she found out.
He grabbed his car keys and headed out of his house and to the Crown Star Hospital.
While he was in his car, on the highway that led to the hospital, a call from Anita came in… finally.
He answered the phone and put it on speaker. “What the hell have you done, Anita?! I told you to leave him alone!” Alec yelled, causing the driver of the car that drove next to him, look into his window.
“What are you talking about Alec? And why is your voice so loud?” She muttered.
“Are you kidding me? You know exactly what I’m talking about! Arthur… and his kids?! I told you not to touch them!”
“Oh please! I know you’re obsessed with Aurora, but that wouldn’t make me stop what I’m supposed to do, okay? Also, I didn’t mean for his boys to follow him, I guess they were just pretty unfortunate.” She answered.
“Are you serious, right now?! They are just kids! They have done nothing wrong to you!” He responded, and he heard her heave a sigh of frustration.
“I knew I should never have called you back because all you’d do is nag and yell. I called you back to let you know that I’m leaving for good. I’m pretty satisfied with all I’ve done, and I think it’s time I rested and enjoyed his money. You should get a vacation too yourself. You seem to be too worried about the people that don’t give a sht about you.”
Before Alec could answer, she hung up. In anger, Alec tried to call her, but it kept bouncing back.
“She blocked me?!” He asked aloud in shock. He looked up and saw he was about to get to the hospital, and instantly, he made a turn and headed for the police station.
Theo returned to the hospital with the boys’ iPad. Getting to the ward, he saw Derick and Carter were still there, and they happened to be entertaining the boys, who were now awake.
“Uncle Theo.” Riley called sadly as soon as he saw him, and they all turned to look at Theo.
“You’re back.” Carter uttered, and he nodded. He heaved a sigh as he sat on the spare chair next to Ryan’s bed.
“It’s all over the news.” Theo uttered, and their eyes widened.
“What? So soon?” Derick asked in shock, and he nodded.
“I think most times, we tend to forget that Mr. Arthur is pretty famous. It’s also trending on Twitter. Almost half of the people I came across today are talking about the accident.” He added, turning on the iPad and giving it to Ryan.
“I’m going to try to call mummy.” Ryan said, turning to look at his brothers, and they nodded in agreement.
Carter looked at Theo and said; “Do you think she’d have heard? Since it’s almost everywhere?”
“If she had heard about it, I bet she’d be on her way here right now. Hopefully, the boys can reach her. They really want to talk to her.”
Ryan dialed the last number that Aurora used to call them. It rang and rang and disconnected at the end.
“She’s not answering the phone.” Ryan mumbled sadly.
“Ryan, she also said she uses a public phone to reach out. The probability of her not being there right now is very high.” Theo uttered, touching his hand softly.
“So she wouldn’t come to us at all? She wouldn’t come to see how we are all doing?” Ryan further questioned with tears in his eyes.
“Of course, she would, Ryan.” Carter answered almost immediately. “As soon as she hears what happened, she’ll call you or even come down here.”
“Not when will she hear? When will she know what happened?” Riley further inquired, and the adults exchanged looks tiredly.
They knew the boys wouldn’t be happy until they saw her.
Just when they all went silent, hearing Arthur’s EKG machine beep, the IPad ran in Ryan’s hand all of a sudden.
He hastily lifted it and saw it was an unknown number.
“It’s mummy! I know it.” He uttered excitedly as he answered the phone.
Everyone sat up, all looking at Ryan and paying rapt attention to the phone.
“Ryan?! Riley?! Rowan. Are you all okay? Are you hurting babies?” Aurora’s voice shivered as she spoke.
“Mummy!” They all chorused.
“We had an accident, Mom.” Rowan uttered from his bed.
“Yes, my love. I know. How are you all? What of daddy? Who is with you at the hospital? Is daddy there? Is he fine?” She bombarded them with questions as she couldn’t control her tears.
Theo collected the phone from Ryan and answered; “I am here, Aurora. Carter and Derick are here too.”
“Oh God, Theo! Theo, how is Arthur? Please tell me he is fine.” She mumbled.
“It’s pretty bad, Aurora. The kids need you here right now. Mr Arthur most especially, needs you here.”
“Yes! Yes. I’ve booked the next flight. I’ll be home in no time. I promise. Please take care of them before I return, okay? And Arthur… I…” She muttered and went silent as she broke into more tears.
“We are expecting you, Aurora.” Carter uttered with a sad smile.
“Can you please help me hold Arthur’s hand until I get there, please?” She pleaded, and Theo nodded.
“We’ll do that. See you soon, Aurora.” He uttered and hung up.
“Mummy is coming.” Ryan uttered in a low tone, with a genuine smile forming on his face.
