Chapter 94 Hospital
Carter and Derick sat in the living room, playing games when they heard Derick’s phone ring.
“I’ll get that later. I can’t let you win, again.” Derick uttered, his gaze fixed on the television.
“C’mon Derick, we can pause the game and continue after the call. You know when I win, I win with pride because I don’t cheat. So don’t worry, you’re safe.” Carter responded and paused the game.
Derick reached for his phone and saw that it was Theo calling.
“Why is Theo calling though?” He wondered aloud as he answered the phone.
“Hello, Theo. You just made me lose my chance of beating Carter for the very first time in this game.” Derick uttered and turned to look at Carter, who just rolled his eyes sassily.
“Are you home? I’m at the hospital, right now.”
“What?! What happened?”
“Mr Arthur and the kids had an accident.”
“Holy fk!” Derick yelled and sprang to his feet. He grabbed his shirt, gave his phone to Carter as he began to put it on.
“Is it bad? Where is the hospital? How are the boys?” Carter questioned in fear as he also sprang to his feet.
“I don’t know much. They were in the emergency ward when I got to the hospital. The hospital is the Crown Star hospital.”
“We are on our way.” Derick answered as he grabbed the car keys and ran out with Carter.
They hung up as they ran to the car.
“Oh God! With the boys too?! No. No.” Carter mumbled as his eyes teared up. They hopped into the car, and in no time, they drove out of the compound.
“How did it even happen? Arthur never drives recklessly.” Derick uttered.
“They must have been a stupid reckless driver on the damn road! Oh God… my heart is beating so fast.” Carter muttered, lowering his head and grabbing his chest.
“Hey, baby… breathe, okay? They are been attended to already. They’ll be fine.”
“But we don’t know their condition.” Carter added.
“They will be fine, okay? Let’s get to the hospital first.”
“Oh God, Aurora must not hear this.” Carter muttered underneath his breath as he fought back the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes.
“How would she hear?? Her phone number isn’t connecting.”
After some minutes of driving at a high speed, they got to Crown Star Hospital. In haste, they got out of the car and hurried into the building.
Getting to the reception, they sighted Theo pacing around in the hallway.
“Theo!” They called, running to him.
“They are still in there. I haven’t heard anything.” Theo uttered, panting heavily.
“How did it even happen? Where is his car? Is it totally damaged?” He asked, and he shook his head.
“I have no idea. I’m just so scared. He volunteered to take the boys to school today because he finished early. If I had insisted on taking them, maybe this wouldn’t have happened to the boys.”
“Don’t blame yourself, Theo. Let’s just wait to hear what the doctor says.” Carter answered, tapping Theo’s shoulders so he could calm him down a little.
After about thirty minutes, the door to the emergency ward opened, and the doctor stepped out with two other nurses.
They all stood up from the chairs in the lobby and rushed to them.
“Doctor, how is he? I am his Butler.” Theo uttered, and the doctor looked at Derick and Carter.
“We are his friends. How is he, Doctor?” They asked.
“He’ll get better. He got some broken glass in his face and shoulders due to the collision, but we have removed them and treated the wounds the best way we can.”
“Oh God.” Carter placed his hand on his mouth as he broke into silent tears.
“And the kids? What about the boys?” Derick further inquired.
“They’re fine too. They had slight bruises on their heads, arms and legs. The wounds have been treated too.” The doctor said.
“Can we see them?”
“Just the kids. Their father shouldn’t be disturbed.” He answered, and they all nodded. The nurses led them into the ward, and they saw the boys on the beds next to each other.
Arthur on the other hand was separated from the kids with a cubicle curtain.
With tears in Carter’s eyes, he turned to look at the nurse. “Is Arthur there?” He asked, pointing to the cubicle curtain, and she nodded.
“Can I at least take a look?” He asked, and she nodded. He walked to the curtain, and when the nurse pulled it to the side, he broke into more tears.
Arthur’s face was bandaged, and only his nose was visible. He had his leg hung up too.
“Oh God.” He shut his eyes tight and moved away from the bed.
Derick and Theo got to where the kids were and saw Ryan awake, while the others were sleeping. They also had thin plasters on their heads and arms. Riley had a bandage on his left leg.
“Ryan.” Theo called, hastily moving closer to his bed. “Are you okay? How are you feeling?” He asked, and Ryan turned his head to look at Derick and then his brothers.
“Where is daddy?” He asked in a low, weak voice.
“Daddy has been taken care of. Does it hurt anywhere?” Derick asked him, as he sat next to him too.
“My… my head hurts.” He muttered, touching his head.
“Sorry. Do you remember what happened?” Theo asked, and Ryan turned to look at him.
“I don’t know what happened. Daddy was driving and all of a sudden, there was this van in front of us, and daddy drove into it.”
“A van?” Derick asked with furrowed brows and raised his head to look at Theo.
“Yes. It was in the middle of the road.” Ryan responded and held his head again, winching softly in pain.
“That’s enough. You should rest.” Theo said to him, holding his hand and slightly rubbing it with his thumb.
“I need my iPad. I want to call mummy.” Ryan muttered.
“But you don’t have her number. She uses a public number to call you.”
“I know, but we can call the number, right? We’ll keep calling until she answers. I want my mummy here.” He mumbled, his eyes tearing up in no time.
“Okay. I promise we’ll get across to Aurora. But can you rest now? Once you’re up, I’d have gotten your iPad from the house and would have started calling the public number.”
Ryan nodded in agreement and shut his eyes to sleep. Theo heaved a loud sigh and looked at Derick.
They moved from his bed and stood a few feet away from it. “Are you really going to call Aurora?” Derick asked, and Theo nodded.
“Of course. Her kids were involved in an accident. Everything she’s doing can wait. They all need her now, more than ever. Even Arthur.”
“Do you think she’d be able to reach out to her??” Carter asked worriedly, and Theo shrugged.
“I’ll have to keep trying until I get to her.”
“I just don’t understand what a van was doing in the middle of the road. It sounds suspicious.”
“You think someone must have put it there?” Carter inquired, and Derick nodded.
“I think so. It isn’t the first time Arthur is driving. It doesn’t sound normal at all.” He added.
“If someone put it there, then who could it be? Who would do that to him?” Carter asked, and Derick shook his head too, unsure of who it could be.
“Anita!” Theo answered firmly. “She called to threaten him recently. If this was planned, then she is behind it.”
“What?? I thought he sorted the whole Anita issue out.” Carter uttered.
“Exactly. And how can you be so sure she did it? Do you have evidence?”
“I don’t have evidence but I’ll find one. If she did this, this will be the last she’ll ever do.”
