Chapter 68 Breakfast gone wrong
After the birthday party, the boys refused to let Aurora return to her apartment. They told her they wanted her to be with them till the next day, indirectly giving Arthur more opportunities to talk to her.
Although Aurora tried to remine stolid to all of Arthur’s flirting, she was happy that he was trying to get her attention. And for the very first time in a long time, there was no Anita.
No talks about her, and no thoughts about her.
Aurora refused to sleep in any other room apart from the boys, and this was because she was beginning to miss them already. The next morning, she stared at their faces and smiled.
‘It’s crazy how time flies. They are all grown up now.’ Her lachrymose eyes spoke of overwhelming gratitude and joy. ‘If only I could stop time. I wouldn’t want times like this to pass.’
Standing up to her feet, she planted kisses on their sleeping heads before heading out of their room. As she got to the living room, her nostrils caught a pleasant aroma in the air.
She creased her brows as she turned to look at the kitchen. ‘Why is Theo up so early to cook? The kids don’t have school.’ She wondered, making her way to the kitchen.
Getting to the kitchen door, to her greatest surprise, she saw Arthur in an apron, standing in front of the kitchen cabinet. He had a spatula in his hand and gloves on both hands.
He wore only khaki shorts and she could see his bare smooth back from where she stood. With a scoff, she shook her head and walked into the kitchen.
Arthur heard footsteps from behind him and he turned back to see Aurora.
“Oh God! Why are you up so early?” His voice sounded disappointed.
“What? Why are you so mad I woke up early?”
“Because you’re not supposed to be up until I bring you breakfast in bed. Now, my plans are ruined.” He muttered, turning to look at the chicken frying in the pan.
Aurora chuckled as she stared at him speechlessly. He hurried to where the pan was and began to flip the chicken over.
“Why are you cooking? What of Theo?” She asked, moving closer to him.
“Why would I let Theo cook for the woman I am hoping falls in love with me?? What if she falls in love with him because of his great cooking?” Arthur answered, greasing the upper part of the chicken breasts with oil.
“So you decided to make breakfast yourself?”
“Yes, and if you move back here, I promise I’ll do this every weekend.” He answered and looked at her.
Aurora looked into his eyes without uttering a word. She could see the desire in his eyes, but that wasn’t enough. She was enjoying the chase and it would be boring to just let him win.
“I can’t. I need to be at work. Thank you for the breakfast, but I won’t be able to eat it. I have to leave as soon as I can…”
“Because of the restaurant?” He asked.
“Of course.”
“Have you checked your phone this morning?” He asked, taking a taste of the sauce he had prepared.
“No, why?” She furrowed her brows.
“I believe there should be a message from your boss to you, telling you that you don’t have to be at work today and even tomorrow.” Arthur answered with a smirk.
“What?!” Aurora asked in awe.
She hurried out of the kitchen, back to the boys room to grab her phone. Upon opening it, she saw she had a message from Jack already, and it was the same with what Arthur had said.
Still in awe, she returned to the kitchen. “What did you do?” She asked in disbelief.
“I asked him if he could give you a few days break…”
“Why would you even do that without my consent?! What if I didn’t want the break, hun?!”
“You don’t?” Arthur asked, as he began to regret his decision.
“I don’t want any breaks, okay? You have no right to interfere in my work. This is my work, not something random. I’m leaving.” Aurora answered angrily and turned to walk out of the kitchen.
“Wait! Wait, Aurora. I’m sorry!” Arthur ran to her and quickly blocked her way with his body.
“I’m sorry, okay? I just thought you would want a break to relax after yesterday’s event.”
“No, that wasn’t the reason why! You did that because you are selfish. You want me to be less busy so you would take me out, isn’t it? Well, I’m sorry but I don’t want to go on a date with you.”
After her lucid response to Arthur, Arthur nodded sadly and watched her leave. He never thought it was going to turn out in such a way, and she didn’t lie.
‘It was selfish of me. I should have told her or asked her about it first. I need to apologize to her.’ He thought.
After Aurora bade the boys goodbye, she headed out without looking back, and Arthur didn’t try to stop her either as this could trigger more anger in her.
As soon as she left, Arthur called Theo to the living room and sat him down.
“I have pissed off Aurora again. I’m so bad at this.” He mumbled, shaking his head.
“Why? What happened?”
“I did something really bad to her, and I want to make it up to her but I don’t know how. How can I say sorry to her in the most respectful and beautiful way? Help me out. I can’t think of anything right now.”
“Errm… what about giving her flowers?” Theo asked, and Arthur raised his head to look at him.
“Yes. Maybe a rose bouquet with an apology note attached. You could also get a gift box alongside. Maybe a necklace, earrings or wristwatch.”
“Hmm.” Arthur nodded as Theo’s idea seemed like the perfect idea. “How are you so good at this?” He wondered, shaking his head.
“I don’t know. Maybe I just know little about women.” Theo answered boastfully.
“I know what to do. I’ll prepare what you’ve told me and I’ll present it to her at the restaurant, in front of everyone there. That isn’t too much drama, right?”
“Erm, for Aurora, I don’t think so. At least, this will show her you are sincerely sorry about what happened, and you don’t care if people think you are a sucker for love.”
Arthur nodded in agreement, feeling very happy that he could come up with a solution so fast.
“Thank you, Theo. I’ll do just that.”
Theo nodded and just when he was about to excuse himself from the moment, he remembered that he wanted to inquire about Anita from him.
“Mr. Arthur, I do have a question though.” He uttered, and Arthur nodded.
“Of course.”
“Have you heard from Miss Anita since she left?” He asked, causing Arthur’s facial demure to change.
“No, why?”
“I’m not sure, but before she left that day, she seemed happy. I just find it weird because why would she be so happy to leave when her initial plan was to stay here longer. Did anything happen?” Theo further asked, making Arthur think deeper.
“Not that I recall. Theo, I don’t care about her. If she was happy to leave, good for me. If she was sad and teary, it’s still good for me. She didn’t bother to reach out, which is the best decision she had ever made.
“At least she isn’t in my life anymore. Let’s not talk about her anymore, okay? No more mention of her name in this house.” He commanded, and Theo nodded obediently.
Arthur was at the office the day she left, so he had no idea what her emotions were, and he didn’t care.
He wanted and had only one woman in his heart and head, and this woman was Aurora.
‘Now how do I compose this apology note?’
