Chapter 62 Wild night
Jack couldn’t help but worry after Aurora refused to show up at the restaurant for two days consecutively without telling him anything about it.
He worried that he was the reason why she wanted to stay away, because of what he tried to do to her in the elevator. He regretted his actions and wished he could reverse time so he never did it.
Throughout his time at the restaurant, he could hardly and then finally decided that he’d go to her apartment. ‘I’ll apologize and promise her that it will never happen again.’ He said to himself.
After finishing at the restaurant, he headed up and straight to Aurora’s apartment. He let out a deep sigh as he went ahead to knock on her door.
In nervousness, he waited for her to answer the door. After a short while, he heard her behind the door. The door unlocked and when she opened up, his gaze fell on her face.
“Aurora. Hi.” He called softly, putting on a smile.
“Hi, Jack.” Aurora answered with a feeble smile, her facial expression being a sad one.
“Are you alright? You haven’t been to the restaurant in two days. I thought I should come and check up on you.” Jack explained, while she let go of the door and began to walk back into the room.
“Come in, Jack,” She muttered in response. He nodded slowly, staring at her in confusion as he walked into her apartment.
“What’s up with you? You don’t look good.” Jack added as he watched Aurora slam into the couch, brushing her hair backwards with her hand.
“If… if this is about what happened in the elevator. I’m deeply sorry, I shouldn’t have been so forward. I really do like you, Aurora, but I shouldn’t have just gone in like that. I’m so sorry. Please can we forget about it? I need you back to the restaurant.” Jack uttered, standing some distance away from her.
Aurora gulped hard and shook her head. “This isn’t about what happened in the elevator, Jack. To be honest, I didn’t even think about it. It’s something else. And I’m not mad at you.”
“Really? Do you want to talk about it? You know you can talk to me, right?” Jack asked, settling next to her on the couch.
Aurora smiled faintly and nodded. “Arthur, the father of the boys… My ex boyfriend is in the same house with the girl he claimed to hate so much. She’s there right now, acting like she’s the woman of the house. And before I knew this, I actually thought maybe we still had a chance, you know?
“I kept wondering, maybe I was too fast to leave, maybe I just had to help him get over her, maybe I had to be like her or something. But I was wrong. He just can’t move on from this lady. It’s like she has her name imprinted in his bloodstream.
“And here I am, just a surrogate with no life. My father is dead, my mother ran off and I don’t know where she is as we speak.”
Tears rolled down her eyes as she spoke, and Jack felt very bad for her. Seeing her in his situation made him furious.
“Please don’t cry.” He muttered, reaching for her face. He cupped her face in his hands and wiped off her tears with his thumb.
“That man isn’t worth it.” He whispered, hoping this was going to comfort her.
“Why does she have such an effect on him though? How can she get him so easily wrapped around her fingers? And why is he so stupid to fall for it every goddamn time!” Aurora cried in a loud voice.
“Hey… hey, Aurora. It’s okay. Stop crying. You are a great woman. I have always said this and I’ll keep saying it. You deserve better. You need to let go of that man because he doesn’t know your value. He doesn’t know who you are. It will take time, but you’ll get over him, Aurora. You’ll be fine, I promise.” Jack uttered, staring into her eyes as he spoke.
His words settled in Aurora’s head and she nodded, stopping more tears that wanted to flow out.
“Thank you for your kind words, Jack. I’m sorry I made you worry.”
“No, of course not. I was just stating the obvious facts, okay?” He replied, and she smiled and nodded.
“We miss you at the restaurant though. We can’t wait to have you back.”
“I miss the restaurant too. I should have told you I needed some time off. Can you let me know what my punishment is now so I know how to handle it?” She asked, and he giggled.
“Nah, don’t bother, okay? You can resume anytime you feel better. I wouldn’t punish you… ever.” He answered, and they both smiled.
“Can I ask you for a favor?” She asked, and Jack immediately nodded.
“Of course. Anything you need.”
“Can you please take me to any bars tonight?? I think I need to get drunk.”
“What?!” Jack raised his brows in surprise. “Are you sure? You know you can always stay home, sleep it off and…”
“If you don’t take me, then I’ll go myself.” She butted in, standing up from the couch.
“Fine! I’ll take you to my favorite one, okay? But promise me you won’t be getting so drunk.” Jack answered.
“You will be there to make sure I don't drink to stupor, won’t you?”
She asked, and he scoffed and laughed softly.
“You really want to do this, don’t you?”
“I have never had a wild night before. I think I want to do and experience things I’ve never experienced before. So yeah, let’s do this!”
After some minutes, they got to the bar and Jack led her to the bartender right away.
“What would you like to have?” Jack asked her.
“Whiskey.” Aurora answered with boldness, even though she knew she had never had one before.
Jack nodded even though he was unsure if she was supposed to start with whiskey. “I’ll have one too.” Jack said to the bartender, who got to work immediately.
Aurora looked around the bar and nodded. “It’s so cool. How often do you come here?” She asked, and he chuckled.
“Once or twice a week. It’s always the weekends though. Because of the restaurant.” He answered, and Aurora nodded and smiled.
“Cool. I wish I was used to that kind of life.”
“Your orders are here.” The bartender placed two glasses of whiskey in front of them.
Jack picked up his glass and moved it to Aurora’s. “Cheers to having a wild night with you!”
She chuckled in excitement as after clinking their glasses, she gulped down the whole thing in the glass cup. She tightened her eyes and fists as she felt the alcohol flow down to her belly.
Jack’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped in awe. “Did you just finish that in one go?!” He exclaimed in shock.
“We want a wild night, remember? This is just the beginning! Give me more!”
